Nice convenient design, heats well and quickly, but could be better
We purchased this from Amazon.com for our 6 month old baby’s room so we don’t have to heat the rest of the house just to get his room warm. I compared this to oil heaters and found this to be better since it is also quiet (no fans) and fairly safe.

I was surprised on how light weight and small it is compared to the pictures on the web. The dimensions are: 26″wide, 20″ high (23″ high on wheels), 2.25″ depth (10″ deep when on wheels). It is easy to carry because it only weighs about 5 to 8 pounds (I didn’t weigh it).

The heating elements heats up very fast, so that is a definite advantage over oil heaters. It can be mounted on the wall with the included wall mount bracket. Once my baby starts walking I will mount it on the wall to keep it out of reach for him, since the front of the unit does get very hot (although you will not burn yourself if you happen to touch it for a second). So you can hang it up like a picture. The heat only radiates from the front of the unit. The front is smooth in comparison to a oil heater, so your child will suffer less injury than the sharp radiators on oil heaters if he/she runs into it with the head.

It heats a small bedroom quickly, so I think it will also heat a medium sized room with low celings well, but probably not a large living room or kitchen/dining-room.

PROS:
1. Lightweight low profile design can be wall mounted

3. Totally quiet
4. High power heating

CONS:
1. Odor: During the first day of use after new it off-gases a lot and generates a strong odor. So make sure to turn it on high heat in the garage or somewhere away for several hours before installing it in a closed room.

2. No digital thermostat: I would prefer a digital thermostat where you can set a temperature. With this one you have to wait until the room is at the right temperature and then set it. This is not exact and takes several tries to get it right.

3. The front of the unit heats up more than I expected, so make sure kids stay away from it.

Almost Silent Radiant Heater - Perfect for Bedrooms or Quiet Spaces
We’ve been using this panel heater in our 16′ x 20′ bedroom for 6 weeks to save big $$ by turning the central heating way down at night. It works very well to heat the room throughout the night and is virtually silent. There are some tiny expansion noises when it is heating up, but it has never made any noise to waken us during the night and we are light sleepers. Just need to turn it on about a half-hour before bed to warm up the room. The room stays pleasantly warm even on the 750W low power setting with the built-in temp control turned less than half-way to max. It heats without moving air around (no fans) so it takes a while to distribute the heat. Folks who want instant blowing heat may not like it but they will have to tolerate fan noise. For us, silence is golden and this heater provides silent heat which is fully adjustable. It is also light weight and moves easily by either carrying (has built-in handle) or rolling on the supplied casters.

Works well and, unlike most, it ain’t ugly.
One of the most aesthetically pleasing space heaters I’ve ever seen. it can be sat on rollers or mounted to wall. It can keep my uninsulated 4,000 cubic foot (20′ wide x 20′ long x 10′ high) garage at a tolerable temperature when it’s 15 degrees outside.

Tip #1: As with any new space heater, it will emit an unpleasant chemical smell when first used. When it’s new, I suggest you set it on high and place it in the garage or outside for 3 to 4 hours before using it inside.

Tip #2: Hot cords/plugs are usually the result of using the wrong gauge of wire in your extension cord or electrical outlets. Use at least a 14-gauge (I’d probably go with a 12-gauge) extension cord and plug it into an outlet that is wired (with 14, preferable 12, gauge wire) to at least a 15-amp circuit breaker. This will be the only thing you’ll want running on that circuit breaker. If you don’t do that, then don’t complain about hot plugs or wires. It’s not the heater’s fault. It’s a basic principle of electricity.

Tip #3: No, it’s not going to produce as many BTUs as a propane or kerosene heater will. Electrical heaters are quite capable of producing equal BTUs, without producing carbon monoxide like gas heaters do, but they also have to make it safe to plug into a wall outlet and that means about 1500 watts max. If you have a large room you’ve been heating with a gas heater and you want to replace it with an electric heater, then you’re going to have to get a 240v 30 Amp (or better) heater and probably have an electrician wire it in for you on a dedicated dual-pole circuit. This is a space heater, not a furnace. It’s for making warm rooms warmer. Don’t disparage this heater because you got the wrong tool for the job. Do your research.

Tip #4: If you want to remove the stickers from the face of the unit and the adhesive is being stubborn, then try heat. If that doesn’t work, then go to an auto parts store. They sell several different adhesive removers that are safe for painted surfaces.

One of my favorite gadgets
This is useful and fun, what more could you ask ? You can use one or two probes. The probes are connected to the transmitter, you then turn on the remote, then the transmitter. I use it for everything, steaks, chops, whatever. I go into the living room and watch the remote. When the temperature gets over about 100 I turn the meat over if necessary. The only thing I have noticed is the temperatures that trigger the audible alarm are set too high, likely thanks to lawyers. For example, when I set it to medium rare for beef, it was more like medium. Now I set it on rare ( 140 ) and get a perfect medium rare. For pork the number is 170. I take it off at 160. After all, it continues to cook after it is taken off. Before I bought this I used to guess but now I get perfect results every time. Highly recommended.

Don’t stop playing horseshoes
Great product, I can have a steak and chicken on at the same time and don’t have to keep going back to the BBQ to check if they are done. The down side is that it goes through batteries quickly but with rechargeable not a major problem.

GREAT!
This thing is very handy. I am just getting the hang of a new smoker, and bought this so I did not have to be chained to the smoker on hot summer days.

I put one probe in the smoker to measure heat temp, and the other in a pork shoulder. It alternates back and forth between the two, constantly keeping me update. the convenience is awesome. Allows me to work on my computer and take care of customers while I smoke my meat.

This is the first time I’ve used it, so I don’t know about battery life, but regardless, it is great. The radio reception works great through an outside and one interior wall.

I LOVE IT, but…
I have had every kind of pasta roller - the chrome manual kind, the one that does everything (mixes, extrudes) and now this. I LOVE it. I love having my hands free to hold the dough going in and coming out and not having the manual roller shift all over the place. I am amazed how thin I can make the dough - tissue paper-thin. My only complaint, and I make it for the sake of completeness, is the fact that it took SEVERAL batches of dough (the first of which I was willing to sacrifice) to “clean” it out. I noticed what looked like metallic deposits all over my dough, especially on the edges. This was very distressing to me. I tried wiping the roller with a towel (for about an hour), I tried rubbing it with olive oil and I tried dusting it with flour, all of which helped, but it was ridiculous how much time I had to spend and how many batches of dough I had to waste (about four)! Overall, however, I am very pleased, but I think they should include in the instructions a statement to the effect that you should expect to see the deposits and how to clean it, or they should make sure it’s cleaner before sending it out!

Heavy duty, easy & fun to use, great pasta!
I decided to purchase this attachment instead of the other Kitchenaid pasta attachment (plates + food grinder) because I wanted to be able to make any kind of pasta: spinach, semolina, whole wheat, egg-free etc, and not be confined to a small number of recipes that were sure to work well with the plates. It has worked like a charm. Even the egg-free spinach pasta, which was very dry and crumbly to start, came out perfect.

The widest setting on the roller works to knead/roll the dough until its pliable enough to continue. Its amazing how such flaky dough can become so evenly mixed with minimal effort. From this point, its just a few more settings until you’ve got angel-hair thin dough. It is important to use the cutter before the ends of your dough dry out, lest they will clog the cutter.

Pasta is my favorite food, and this contraption makes it possible to make my own healthy, delicious pasta recipes at home, quickly!

Solid and capable
I highly recommend this attachment.
This attachment is very well made (Made in Italy). It attaches, detaches and cleans up easily, and most importantly, it works very well. This device only makes flat pasta so if you want rigatoni or penne, you’ll be disappointed. I’ve made fettuccine and ravioli. After you’ve eaten home made semolina pasta, box pasta will never measure up. Be aware that making fettuccine is not that difficult but fresh ravioli is another story…it’s quite a bit of work even with this machine. Making the filling and stuffing and sealing each ravioli is laborious. However, prior to getting this device, I used to use a hand crank machine. That’s just way too much work. These rollers make the job manageable. The roller makes very consistent pasta, even when you use the thin settings.

My suggestion for a good pasta recipe is :
2 cups Semolina flour
1 cup unbleached flour
3 eggs
½ teaspoon of salt
6 tablespoons of water (most recipes say 3 but that just doesn’t work well.)
*Some recipes like the one that comes in the box with this attachment, recommend the use of oil. I have not tried that approach yet. It probably works fine too, you be the judge.

** Some process advice: mix the 2 flours in the Kitchen aid bowl using the paddle beater. Mix the eggs and water together with a whisk and slowly add them to the mixer while in motion on setting 2. After the big, kind if hard dough ball forms, stop and change over to the dough hook for a couple of minutes. If you make ravioli, you’ll want flexible dough or you’ll get cracking. If the dough cracks or if air is captured inside during the sealing process, they are garbage as they will come apart in the boiling water.

To get dough flexible enough that it doesn’t crack while making the ravioli, be sure to cover the dough between the first and second rollings and not let it sit longer that 30 minutes. Here’s where the oil recipes may have an advantage…also, a light coating of water will help make a good seal.

I also picked up the Villaware 10-Square Ravioli Maker from Amazon. It is a metal and plastic form that helps you make 10-2.5 inch square rav’s at one time. It works well but 2.5 inch rav’s are a bit small. You will also have a tough time getiing a sheet of rolled pasta out of the rollers that is wide enough to cover the form as the rollers are close to the same width as the form.

Finally, a better mousetrap!
My family moved into our current house five years ago, and our first autumn here we discovered that our house was a quite popular Fall Resort in the mouse world.

In those five years, we’ve tried a large number of ways to stop this yearly invasion:

- Traditional Traps
They simply didn’t work. Either the mouse could eat the bait without triggering the trap, or it would catch the mouse without killing it - which was pretty disgusting. I did find one type of traditional trap that worked, but then it was discontinued.

- Glue Traps
These were basically worthless. Mice would drag them to a new location, but then free themselves without too much trouble.

- Poison
This was a fun solution - I would go into my basement (where I work) and smell a week-dead mouse that I couldn’t find.

- “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”
One year I simply didn’t bother to try to catch them; I was too exhausted from previous attempts. I figured as long as they stayed hidden, I would ignore their existence. This option didn’t go over too well with the wife.

After all this frustration, I figured I would try the Rat Zapper. All I can say is: IT WORKS! I caught 6 mice in the first 48 hours I had it set up, and disposing of the mice and resetting the trap was clean and easy. Best of all, I can use this trap for years to come; it no longer has to be a yearly experiment to see how I can catch our rodent visitors.

It does the job!
I have a rat problem in my attic. After searching around for solutions, this product appears to have the best solution to help with my rat problem. So far my Rat Zapper Ultra has caught 5 rats, and it is still going strong. I read some reviews complaining about battery life, I belive they are refering to the original Raz Zapper, not the Ultra version. The difference is that the Ultra version uses ‘D’ size batteries, which last much longer than the ‘AA’ used in the regular Rat Zapper. I have my rat zapper on for the last 3 month and the batteries are still ok. When it comes to catching rats, the fine details really matters. It is not easy to get them to take the bait. The bait that comes with the Rat Zapper didn’t work at all. The rats don’t care them at all. I had paced some of those bait outside the trap, and the rats won’t even eat them. What I find works really well is peanut butter. What I do is use a glob of peanut butter about the size of a quater, and place it on a sheet of candy paper(I use the black circular paper from See’s candy). The placement of the peanut butter should be skewed to one edge of the paper. Place the peanut butter bait inside the trap such that the peanut butter is just touching the metal grill at the end of the trap. That way, a rat can stick his paw in and get some sample of the peanut butter from outside of the cage. In addition, I smear a tiny amount of peanut butter on the outside of the metal grill to attract the rats, and gurantee that they can get a free sample. The rats just love peanut butter. When ever I have a catch, I notice that the peanut butter on the grill is alway licked clean by the rat, and they just can’t resist going in to get the rest of the peanut butter once they have a good taste of the stuff. Another important procedure is to always wear disposable glove when handling the trap and bait material. Rats have really keen sense of smell. They tend to stay away from things with people smell. Wearing disposable gloves will help reduce the chance of transfering any scent to the bait and trap.
The key feature of this product that sold me was the optional Rat Tale attachment. Since my trap is paced in the attic and I don’t want to climb up to the attic daily to check on the trap, the Rat Tale is a great option to have. Rat Tale is a remote monitoring attachment to the Rat Zapper Ultra and it notifies me by flashing red light when ever there is a catch, so I only need to climb up to the attic when I see the Rat Tale flashing. One draw back of the Rat Tale is that is uses it’s own internal battery for power and I’m sometimes worried that it might run out of power before I noice that there has been a catch. I really prefer to deal with the catch while it is fresh than to deal with smelly decomposed mess. The Rat tale is rated to run flashing alert for 20 days, so maybe it’s not really an issue if you check on it on a regular basis.
The Rat Zapper Ultra is a great mess free trap. Add the Rat Tale, it is truely convient when the trap needs to be place at inconvient locations. For total cost of $68 for both, it is turely worth it. There are other more expensive traps with true wireless remote monitoring ability out there, but they are very expensive. The Rat Zapper Ultra is the best solution for the lowest cost. I only wish I bought this earlier before I hade experimented with glue traps and snap traps. The glue traps and snap traps are messy and they don’t work well at all.

Electifying!
Finally a Zapper with more voltage! Now I can really sizzle those mice. I was previously getting rid of them with the regular Zapper that only uses 4 AA batteries; I really felt it wasn’t enough. I had to modify my current Zapper MacGuyver-style to use the electrical outlet in addition to a high-voltage amplifier, outputing well over 120-volts of pure lightning. You can tell when you’ve gotten a mouse because you here a slight crackling sound like those Pop Pop Snaps fireworks you buy on the 4th of July. Also a bit of smoke if you get there quick enough. It’s not uncommon to have the Zapper tip over on it’s side due to the mouse getting thrown against the walls of the Zapper - those mice don’t know what hit them. Science rules! *cackling*

Time to Change the HEPA Filter on Your Air Cleaner?
Before ordering a replacement HEPA filter for your Honeywell (or other brand) Air Cleaner, be sure to check the model number on the unit. This filter is for the smaller round unit (Model 10500) and for the smaller of the two upright units with handles (Model 17000). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters that wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. The pre-filters should be changed every 3 months, but I check them more often and vacuum off any accumulated pet hair.

just as good as any other HEPA filter
HEPA filters were developed by the US Atomic energy commision to remove radio active particles from a contaminated environment. So they are more than sufficient for removing dust, mold spores, cockroach feces and dust mites which have been known to cause respiratory problems such as asthma.

Don’t go by the light on the your Honeywell unit to tell when it’s time to change the filter because the manufacturer wants you to change it as frequently as possible. When you find that the flow of air has slowed down and dust in the vicinity of the unit tends to collect more, then it’s time to change the air filter. Also, vacuuming the outside of the filter may prolong the life. I vacuumed my HEPA and found that there was an increase in air flow afterwards and less dust collecting around the unit.

Wait a second…!
This is not so much a review as a cautionary note.

I’ve done a lot of research on filters and the such since my son tested positive for exposure to lead.

Both of the reviews of this filter (I have this or a similar Honeywell which is great but I am not sure which model.) Anyway, both of these reviews mention vacuuming the filter(s) to extend the useful life of the item. IF you are using a HEPA filtered vacuum, and only if you are using a HEPA filtered vacuum, should you think of this. But the cost of these filters is not so great that this makes much sense.

If you are not using a HEPA filtered vaccum, than all you are doing is sucking the stuff you don’t want to breath out of the filter (which is what you bought the machine to do in the first place) and blowing it back into the air (which is what you boght the machine to prevent.)

Basically, the few bucks you save is not worth the risk.

A Must Own for the Home Entertainer or Office Coffee Pro
I have owned 3 West Bend coffee pot just like this since 1991- each one lasting at least 8 years with heavy use. I purchased my first to make my own coffee to serve at impromptu receptions that I hosted on sight in my sales job. I use a gallon of bottled water, nice paper filters and Maxwell House French Roast coffee. Hundreds of gallons of coffee later I have no complaints! I keep a second pot for tea- I have never made coffee in it- it is my superior hot water pot. As the other reviewer states- these pots are hot and the coffee is never cold.
I have thrown parties, family gatherings, and had it in my office serving coffee every day and everyone agrees- perked coffee tastes best. I do not care for Starbucks - the strong acid is not my thing. I prefer a strong cup of perked coffee. The percolator allows the coffee to actually cook which reduces the acid.Anything leftover from morning gets put into a pitcher and into the fridge for iced coffee in the afternoon- it is so yummy! For smaller quantity the Westbend home percolators are great- not your grandma’s machine they have nice easy to read and follow settings and again the superior flavor over drip.This unit is easy to clean- do not let the size intimidate you.

Don’t use it for water!
I had a similar model that that gave 10 years of excellent service, heating water for tea and keeping it hot for long periods. Unfortunately the spout started to leak so I had to replace it. I used this new product twice, for heating water, and then it died. The customer service reps told me it was designed to be used only for coffee, and they claimed that using it for water actually voided the warranty. My instruction manual did not give any indication at all that the product should not be used for water. It seems to me that, since so many people use these for purposes other than making coffee, and since other brands can be used for these purposes, the description on Amazon.com should disclose that the West Bend has limited uses.

Good product!
I use this for my 55lbs boxer and it works well. We live in the country so you know there are a lot of fleas, ticks, and mosquitos. My only complaint is that it does not last a full month. We have to reapply the product every three weeks. I start noticing fleas towards the beginning of the third week after treatment but, like I said, we live in the country. This product is better than what you would find in the stores and cheaper than going to the vet for a prescription.

Florida Tested
I really have no complaints at all. My dog stays outdoors for long periods of time in central Florida. This product does what it says it does…there are no bugs on my mugs!

Just what I was looking for
I was looking for a simple, practical jewelry box with a lot of compartments to hide in the closet because my jewelry is all over the place. For the price, I was actually very impressed with this product. It’s easy to lock, easy to open, and I like the mini-box that can be separated out and kept in a separate location as needed. The drawers open well, and the box is compact and portable. This is a good purchase for storage. If you are looking for something to put on display, you may prefer something more wooden. Also, if you have a lot of dangly earrings, this may not be your best bet. It has a lot of compartments for stud-type earrings, but only about 8 or 10 hooks for necklaces and dangly earrings. I had to double up for my dangly earrings.

LOVE IT!!!
I searched forever for a jewelry box and finally settled on this one, and I love it. It has so many compartments for all my stuff, and it feels very stable and secure. Amazing deal for the price!

Lots of room
I was very pleased to find this box held so much jewelry. My jewelry was scattered in all kinds of boxes, and I was able to combine it all in this one big box. The leather looks good, too. I am very pleased and would highly recommend it. The product arrived as scheduled, too. Good service.

Moves air - quietly
Replaced an older fan which was noisy and didn’t move much air unless set to the highest speed (where it added vibration to the noise). The new Hunter is silent (all you can hear is the blades moving the air) and is totally vibration free without installing the balancing kit.

Attractive and functional
We bought two of these for our office and they are simply attractive, run so quietly we forget it’s on, and move the air quite well on three speeds. Although not mentioned anywhere in the literature, they are wired to accept a light kit. We purchased a Hunter light kit for one of the fans, and it works perfectly.

Very quiet
Replace our son’s fan with this new one and he loves it because it is quiet and doesn’t keep him up. He has a large room so the larger blades help keep the room cool.

Flavorizer bar replacement - Genesis 1000
