Unlike some people, I don’t review DVDs until I have actually watched them. This collection includes all 10 first seasons episodes of Crank Yankers, now with the curse words unbleeped. There are collected a few bleeps, though; mostly the names of businesses. Like when Terrence calls Spago to develop a reservation for Bill Cosby, “Spago” is bleeped. Oddly, though, on the CD version of that call, “Spago” was unbleeped. Watching the early episodes of Crank Yankers, it is spellbinding to spy some of the ways the prove has “evolved” since then. Some of the puppets didn’t have quite the same leer as they do now. The most primary disagreement is in Cammie, who was originally a blonde. Also, the exhibit was more experimental during the first season. They tried things like having musical performances and “wise sayings” from Confucius. These bits were later dropped to concentrate entirely on the crank phone calls. The bonus materials on the DVD include a documentary about the making of the display, which is fascinating, at least the first time you explore it. There are also two unaired calls, which are not as comical as the calls that actually did air. If you like this point to, this DVD spot is well produced and worth the money.
I worship watching this reveal… it is entirely too amusing. I am a sucker for a respectable laugh and this display definitely feeds that appetite. I can’t wait to rep all of the seasons, especially being that the note is cancelled. I’d have to say this is suitable up there with my other well-liked though-provoking comedies… South Park and King of the Hill.
