Customer Reviews:

Great fun book for little girls4
I don’t understand why some parents insist that these Barbie books, which were obviously designed for children, appeal to them and not their child. I have a 2 and 4 year old who love both the book and movie. At this age all children care about are looking and reading things that are bright and pretty and fun. They couldn’t care less about it’s content. I see so many negative reviews that parents give on products for children that children absolutely love. It’s strange that the parent wont let their kids just be kids and have fun, when they grow older they will have plenty of time to see more interesting and complicated things.

Absolute ridiculousness1
The subject line says it all, but I’ll try to elaborate a little. My 3 year old daughter picked this out at her brother’s school book fair so I didn’t think too much about it until we got home.

Even if one suspends their disbelief regarding the surfing Barbie transforms into a pseudo-mermaid with legs after her hair turns pink, having not known she was half mermaid because her human father, who is apparently estranged from her mermaid mother, moved Barbie to Burbank vicinity to live a normal life.

Once she transforms into an underwater breathing being she is led by a pink dolphin to an underwater village where she finds her mother is held captive by her evil aunt who wants to rule the kingdom and knows via a prophecy that she cannot be defeated by a merm-person BUT IS THEN DEFEATED BY BARBIE because she has legs hidden by a prosthetic flipper. Barbie is then magically given a real mermaid’s tail, followed by a magical necklace that will allow her to transform at will between human and mermaid, ostensibly so she can go to In and Out Burger with her Dad.

If you are offended by my very run-on sentence review you will be disturbed by the pink-infused emptiness of the story, without any real meaning or role models for young girls.

OK, I know little ones have certain tastes that may lean toward saccharine, but please, let’s give our daughters something that has some value to their minds or hearts.

Brilliant sequel with only a few flaws5
I just finished the full walkthrough for Halo 2, as well as played a number of multiplayer games. I’m finally ready with the review of this awesome game!

First off, this is obviously the sequel to the hugely popular initial Halo game. You are Master Chief, a space marine who is sent out to battle the enemies. You are fighting the Covenant, who are your main foes, but you also run into the Flood, who are a space parasite that wants to eat all life. In addition, there are mechanical creatures on Halo who want to kill pretty much anything including the Flood. So each location and creature type has its own look, feel, attitudes and reactions.

The graphics are simply gorgeous, from the rippling water to the clouds in the sky and reflections off of surfaces. I love taking screenshots of this game. The music is also extremely well done, in that the quality is always very high. But it’s a little bizarre to be going from new age lilting softness in one heated battle to high intensity rock music in another and so on. It doesn’t necessary track to the location you’re in, either. It’s just whatever the designers felt like putting in.

The gameplay and plot is where this game really shines. Your characters that interact with you are simply BRILLIANT in how they each do what a real live creature would do. Grunts are my favorite - these little Covenant front-liners are brave and talkative when they’re in groups, but when you whittle them down they suddenly turn and flee, shrieking at the top of their lungs. Your teammates leap into vehicles with you, either driving or shooting depending on your preference. They’ll come alongside you to give you support, and duck for cover when appropriate.

The quips the characters come out with mid-battle still make me laugh out loud. In one sequence you are the covenant Arbitor and are working your way through a room. You come across a pair of grunts and a jackal under attack, and take out the enemies. The grunt comes running to you in glee, shouting, “Arbitor! My savior!” Then he pauses and adds, “Jackal, say thank you to the Arbitor!” :)

The cut scenes are equally as brilliant and are truly movie quality in the interactions. The timing, dialogue, everything is great. The little touches are everywhere. In one sequence, the Sergeant is preparing his troops to get ejected in pods down to the surface of Halo. He walks past the Master Chief’s pod and thumps twice on it, as if to say “All OK in there, ready to go?” Right on beat, you see Master Chief inside his pod, thumping once back in response. You really forget that these are just computer generated characters.

Multiplayer is the stellar addition to this release and there are reasons to be thrilled. You can play on a large variety of maps, in a number of styles, and there is even going to be downloadable content in the future.

That all being said, there are of course a few non-stellar aspects to this release. First, the ending SUCKS. The first one was bad enough with its “Oh I bet there is another Halo out there” so you don’t even feel like you really saved the world. In this one, not only is it not a “you’re done but it’s not over” ending - it’s pretty much cut off mid-battle! That is INCREDIBLY frustrating for a gameplayer. Obviously they want you to buy Halo 3, but that’s going to be a year or two away. Can’t we have some satisfaction in the meantime?

Next, the game is really short, even on normal mode. We had a friend start the game up Sunday morning at about 12:30 and he was done with the entire game by around 8. You can have fun replaying it on the harder levels, but that’s a rather quick game.

Finally, the multiplayer, while brilliant in concept, is lacking in implementation right now. There are two general ways to play - either you set up a game yourself for friends ONLY, or you launch into the ether to play a quick match. If you get up your own game you can control all the settings, but you can only invites people on your friends list. That limits the chances of having a full game unless you are VERY proactive in seeking friends. The quick match game only lets you make a few choices, and then in essence you are auto-connected with other people who are also actively seeking those game types. You can’t browse or look. You just say “I want to play X type of game” and then you wait - literally for 5 minutes or more sometimes - as the servers gather together other people who are also actively seeking that game type. Then the game auto launches without you even knowing who is on your team or if you want to play with them. It’s very frustrating to people who are used to the more customizeable lobby situations.

Still, the online experience can always be tweaked going forward, and the base gameplay is amazingly good. I highly recommend the game to anyone who enjoys shooting / strategy games - but you might want to rent it for a week first, to see if what it offers to you after that point is going to keep you playing.

Pretty damn good5
I loved the original Halo. It had everything I wanted in a game. Good graphics, excellent story, and lots of action.
Halo 2 is essentially its predecessor, except better. I know that sounds unlikely, but the few things that I didn’t like about the original game such as bad Marine AI and monotonous maps are gone in this version.
For example, I was playing last night, and I was on the second level where you and a team of Marines are going through an African city killing everything. A Marine in front of me gets killed as soon as he rounds a corner. Instead of charging ahead, the rest of the squad hugs the wall. So, I swap my sniper rifle for Sarge’s auto rifle (another kickass feature, you can swap guns with marines). Since the Marines are better shots, Sarge charges ahead and takes out the Covenant sniper. The marines and I then charge ahead and waste the covenant.
Here is a summary of cons and pros about the game.
PROS: Marines are much, much more intelligent.
You can swap guns with marines.
marines can drive vehicles on their own now.
the flood return
AH TOO MANY TO LIST CANT LIST THEM ALL

Cons: The only bad things I noticed so far were some minor graphial glitches, such as guns and vehicles sticking through walls. Also, every time it loads a charecter in a cutscene, a milisecond later the game seems to “draw” the person. It is kind of wierd looking, but in no way hurts the game.

If you are into a good sci-fi story or lots of action get this game. Also, Halo 1 fans wont be dissapointed, all changes were for the better.

Good, but could be better4
Halo 2 has good gaphics, good game play, and a good story. This game is a great sequel to the first. It has great multiplayer split screen game play. You get to be spartan and the Elite alien, you get to play both sides of the Halo 2 story! The thing that I don’t like about Halo 2 is that the Flood returns. I hated fighting the flood in the first Halo, and wasn’t expecting to fight them again in Halo 2. The main theme of Halo 2 was that you were going to have to protect earth from the aliens, you did do that, but I was expecting to fight them on earth the intire game, but you don’t, you fight on earth for 2 levels and then you don’t come back untill the end of the game.
This game still is a great game despite the few flaws. When you beat the game, split screen is still a very fun part of the game if you have a friend to play with (its acually my favorite part of the game). This is a great game so go play it!

Customer Reviews:

Look before you leap3

Before you buy this game, maybe it would be a good idea to visit the game forum at yuplay.com and see what the actual game players are saying about this game’s performance issues.

The game is fun. Skill levels range from a pretty hard Arcade level to a really hard Sim or Realistic level. The forum for the game is full of helpful, knowledgeable people. There are many good flyers playing the game. The graphics are really pretty good. There are some problems with joy stick setup and some other small stuff, but they are not insurmountable if you stick to it.

The difficulty I have experienced seems to stem from the fact that the game developers keep “improving” the game and then mess it up so it is full of glitches. Which may or may not be taken care of in the next “improvement”.

So beware, buy the game, it’s cheaper here than on the game site, but watch out for the developers ” improvements”. They may really test your patience.

This Game is a Must Get For Twisted Metal Fans4
This game is a very fun game for Twisted Metal fans and people just getting into the series. This game has awesome graphics just like the PS2 (but a lot more fun than Twisted Metal: Black).

There are three different single player game modes. Story mode is where you pick a car and use it for 11 different levels to destroy the other people’s cars. Challenge mode is where you make all the rules and choose the opponents. Endurance mode is where you see how long you last. There is also a multiplayer mode for this game.

The characters from all the old games are back like: Sweet Tooth, Axel, Warthog, Outlaw, and many more. Each have their own characteristics (speed, armor, special weapon, and handling). There’s bound to be a character for everyone.

This game is a fun game and an easy game to learn so I recommend it for people just getting the PSP also. Some people may not like the game so I recommend renting it first (gamefly.com *Please Refer Me).

FUN5
This is the best car destruction game ever and it is on a portable. I have beaten the ratherown special wepon short career mode with nearly every character. Each character has its own specials. The point of this game is to gather wepons in the arena and shoot at the other cars. The last car standing wins. The grahics are amazing, maybe the best out of any Twisted Metal game. This game, as many others have said, is mostly everything good from the first Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal: Black.

Road rage in a good way!5
This game is amazing! The graphics here blow any Nintendo handheld system out of the water. This actually looks BETTER than the console versions of Twisted Metal. Don’t let the small screen size fool you, you can really tell what’s going on here. It’s smooth frame rates all the way, with no skipping that I could see. The cars respond well, and the sound rocks (as long as you’re using the headphones…the little built-in speaker stretches it a little thin). Great fun!

Customer Reviews:

Mega Mania4
Mega Man ZX is, technically, Mega Man’s first action venture onto the dual screens of the DS. Yes, I know we’ve a Mega Man Battle Network port before this, but that’s more of a RPG, and doesn’t exactly re-enact the type of frantic side-scrolling adventures so commonly associated with the series’ games of the past. ZX, on the other hand, works like previous GBA Mega Man Zero (and before) titles, and continues to provide a sterling challenge for fans of the series with its easy-to-master, hard-to-execute platforming gameplay.

Playing either as Vent (male) or Alle (female), your character is a delivery personnel working for Giro Express, a courier company. Giro, the boss of the company, actually has the secret identity of being a Guardian, who has been fighting against the evil Mavericks for quite a while. Early in the game, you’re tasked to delivery a biometal package to the Guardians, but ended up being attacked by the bad guys. The biometal then merged with you, and you gained the powers of a Mega man prototype form known as Model X. Model X provides you with increased speed, mobility and firepower, which you used to perfection in removing the immediate threat. However, Giro has gone missing during the melee, and your immediate task is to go for his rescue.

Playing as Vent or Alle has little differences to the plot. Some dialogues are different, but the premise remains identical. What’s important is the introduction of Model X in the scheme of things, because it’s what you’d need to transpire the various platforms and death traps in the game in your bid to uncover the evil schemes of the Mavericks and their perpetuator. As you progress, you’ll unlock different forms of Model X, granting you more powers to transverse the large map that several challenging level designs. The LX, for example, allows you to move freely underwater. The HX, on the other hand, gives you the ability to hover, which in turns allows you to access previously non-accessible areas. You’ll also have the option of reverting to human form as and when required - this is useful when you need to crouch under low areas, which is not possible when you’re in your biometal costume.

The mission structure in Mega Man ZX has some free-roaming elements. The map is enormous, spanning over 60 unique levels, and each level has its own missions for you to undertake. It’s entirely up to you to decide what you want to do first, which is a great idea for what’s essentially a 2D platformer. However, despite the freedom to choose, the idea is not exactly well executed. This is because most of the time, you’d only be limited to a choice or two when you access a mission terminal. A large part of this is due to the somewhat linear manner of accessing a new area. You’d need to go into a new area via doors, but many of these doors are locked, and cannot be opened until you get a key. You’d still get to choose between missions available in the areas that are accessible, but this restriction somehow undermines the potential of a truly free-roaming environment.

The platforming in the game provides some nice challenges. Many of your jumps require extreme precision, and this is where the game sometimes becomes frustrating. Enemies also respawn almost immediately after you beat them (once you leave their “first appearance” location), and at times, you’d get hit just because you didn’t expect the enemy to reappear so quickly. The challenging nature of its platforming means that Mega Man ZX may pose some problems for newcomers to the game - this is certainly not your usual feel-good Mario jumping galore. A great challenge is always good though, and this game serves up lots of them on top of the platforming. The old-school boss fights, for example, are fun and engaging. They typically require you to find out a distinctive weakness in a boss’ attacking pattern, and then dealing your own counter-attacks said weakness. These fights differ from boss fights from the modern era, which are usually settled by spamming the “attack” buttons relentlessly.

For a DS game, Mega Man ZX surprisingly doesn’t utilize the features of the dual screen extensively. The action occurs primarily on the top screen, while the touch screen shows nothing but a logo. During some action scenes, the touch screen will show the biometal information, but this is very much a gimmick than anything. To view your character’s items, weapons and statistics, you’d need to stop the game, but these are also shown on the top screen. With several pages of statistics available, you’d end up pressing the shoulder buttons to browse through them. Surely, dividing these pages onto both screens would be a more viable choice? Moreover, for a game with such a massive number of levels, the game would do well to have a Castlevania-style map on the touch screen to guide the player. Sadly, this isn’t included.

The in-game graphics in Mega Man ZX are a combination of 2D and 3D graphics, which are typical of a side-scrolling platformer on the DS. They provide some enjoyable in-game displays, and give the game a nice, dimensional look. The cut-scenes are also awesome in a sense that they’re actually rendered in cel-shaded animation sequences. True, the rather weak decoding makes the animation appear blurred, but to actually watch some short cartoon scenes while playing a game? I’d take that any day. The music scores are also catchy and exciting, but most importantly, they provide much variety (no more being bored to death by repetitive music!). The levels and their bosses each have a different theme, making this a really thorough experience on top of playing the game and enjoying the graphics. The voice-overs during the cut-scenes, however, are in its original Japanese form. There’s also no evidence of this game having any English voice-overs, which could be disappointing for those who wanted to actually understand what they’re hearing. Subtitles are included though, so that should make understanding the story a little easier.

In a nutshell, the solid gameplay and presentations make Mega Man ZX one of the best action games on the DS. The lack of a dual-screen map support and English voice-overs pose some concerns, but the game still offers the kind of thrill that can only be found in a Mega Man franchise. And for some of us out there, it’s more than enough.

A brief review…4
Other reviews for this game speak at length about the plot and new mechanics, so I won’t ramble on about those. ZX is a solid platform game that successfully brings polished Mega Man action to the DS. However, while fans of Mega Man will enjoy it, the game does have some issues that can make it frustrating for newcomers.

One of the big differences between ZX and previous Mega Man games is how it adapts more of a sprawling, open-world layout similar to the Metroid or recent Castlevania games. While it’s fun to explore everything the game’s massive world has to offer, there are frequent times when missions you accept are not clearly defined. For example, one mission might require you to investigate strange happenings at Area H, an abandoned amusement park. But there are no hints on where Area H is located. Instead you just wander aimlessly and stumble upon Area H in Area A, the forest (huh?). And Area L, the secret munitions depot? That’s not connected to Area M, it’s connected to Area H (go figure?). Who would put a munitions depot in an amusement park? Even though this encourages the player to explore everywhere, it’s ultimately frustrating because the linkages make no sense. What Capcom should have used is a “hint beacon” similar to Metroid Zero Mission.

The folks in the sprawling metropolis of Area C should really do something about those active lava flows in the Area next door.

The game doesn’t document the various abilities of the armor. While the instruction booklet does speak of their powers, an in-game tutorial would have been nice. I had to read the booklet to learn about the different armors. Even then, I rarely used the Model L and Model P armors. The default Model Z will get you through most of the game just fine.

While the music is great and the sound effects are improved over the GBA games, I got really tired of having your character yelp like a squeaky dog toy at every attack, jump, or hit. It would have been better if these happened randomly. This is a mis-step Mega Man X4 made on the PSX and it was weird to see it repeated here.

There is no multiplayer to speak of and use of the touch screen is rare. While I’m totally against games that use the touch screen just for the sake of including it, ZX seems like it could have done more. Cooperative multiplayer, like special stages or even a boss attack mode, would have been a lot of fun and added some replay value, of which there is little.

Despite these issues, I did enjoy the game. I liked it better than all of the Zero games. As a veteran of Mega Man, I thought Normal difficulty was tuned perfectly. The bosses were fun to fight and had a plethora of well-conceived attacks. The graphics, being 2D sprites, were highly detailed and nicely animated. Also of note is the length of the game. By the time I had destroyed the final boss, I had logged almost 16 hours. This is a Mega Man game you won’t complete quickly.

Overall, I just felt the above issues make it a “good” game rather than a “great” game. Mega Man ZX is moving in an interesting new direction. With minor improvements, a sequel would be a must-own for any DS owner. As it stands, it is great for Mega Man fans, but others should try before they buy.

Rock On! (Megamerge!)3
Mega Man ZX has a lot varieties for you to play. There are six biometals you need to collect and used before you can procede to your next destinations.

Sound: COA removed most of the Japanese voiceover dialogues when your selected character is interacting with other sprite characters in the game, except for the anime cutscene. By the way, whenever Vent or Aile morph into their Biometal form, they say “Rock On!”, despite what the game manual said “Megamerge!”.
Note: “Rockman ZX” has all of the Japanese voiceovers for all of the characters.

Video:
It is a little blurry to be played on Nintendo DS, but overall most of the cutscenes run okay in my opinion.

Music:
Better than I expected to be than “Mega Man Zero” series hard rock music.

Gameplay:
Good- Fun and entertaining when selecting your preferred Biometals on some missions. There are time when you have to select the right biometal in order to procede your destination, such as flying over spikes w/ Model HX or eliminating boulders that block your path by using Model FX.
Bad- You can get lost on where you are going on your selected missions.

Overall:
The game is fun and entertaining, but the main point is that I am really disappointed with exception of the voiceover dialogue that have been removed. Plus it does not make any sense when the credit starts rolling, it shows all of the Japanese casts and most of them are not heard in this version, such as the character named Prairie.I would like to give it an overall five star-ratings if COA hired Ocean Group to act on for the English voiceovers or leave it in Japanese instead.
Note: If you want to get the original version, it’s called “Rockman ZX.” But the price is higher than this version because of its high game quality, unless you are a hardcore fan of the Mega Man or Rockman series.

Excellent game! On the same level as fishdom!! I’ve played it through 4 or 5 times now and can’t get enough of it!!

Line em up, Build Rome5
Line up 3 tiles in amazing combinations to earn food, supplies and gold so that you can work your way through 5 epochs of empire building. Caution this game is fun but can be addictive.

Delighted with Amazon download4
I have played Cradle of Rome for months now after downloading it from […]. What a pain that website is! They constantly want to upload advertising to my machine every time I want to play my game. So being able to pay only $7.00 from Amazon and not have to put up with all i-Win’s hassle is WONDERFUL. I paid over $20.00 to download it from them. They cheated me once, but never again.
