Orient Men’s CEM5J005D Automatic Day and Date Blue Stainless Steel Watch Description:

About Orient: Orient Watch was formally established in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch really dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focused on mechanical watches, primarily automatic watches with its own in-house automatic movements Orient was once part of the “Big Three” watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass producing quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, continues to make its own mechanical movements. For its quartz models, it uses Seiko’s quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is really the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making its mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is unusual today to find a watch company that makes its own movement selling watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements selling its watches at prices that are affordable to most people is truly refreshing.

Customer Reviews:

20 years of perfect time keeping and a watch that no one will want to steal4
I bought this for $35 and because it has what I would call and “Ugly Betty” face, never considered it anything more than a beater. I too had heard the forums raving about the quality of the Orient brand and thought I might dip my toe in. The movement oscillates at exactly the same rate as the Seiko’s, slower than the comparable low end Swiss auto movement. The band is a wrapped steel band which pops open at all the wrong times, loves arm hairs and is not particularly smoothly finished.

Orient have decided that no one really needs to see a winder weight spin ’round, and as such have shaved weight and depth by not using a crystal back, sticking with a simple stainless steel back. This lowers the profile of the watch …think Skagen… and makes it easier to wear. Simple is better… I wish Orient would take note of that message with their extremely busy and rather ugly logo and some “way too busy” watch faces.

Let’s cover why this watch gets so much arm play.

The real attraction of this little brute is quite simply its accuracy. Provided you wear it regularly (enough to keep it wound up) this thing is not far off quartz. You expect some deviation with an automatic. With this thing I get none. I’m not a time freak who calibrates the second hand against the Colorado Atomic time standard, but one who has put a month in with this and been staggered to see that the minute hand is exactly in the same place as the radio controlled clock on our wall.

Most importantly, I know I can count on this thing. Better, in a years time when the battery goes on your quartz watch this will still be keeping exact time. Will I ever service it? No. Will it get thrown out when it breaks? You bet. But I have friends in the Asia Pacific regions whose dads have been wearing these since the 70s and have not had a service yet.

Take your thirty five bucks and buy this watch (or one of the other low end Orients with ugly faces). You will get 20 years of perfect time keeping and a watch that no one will want to steal. Then take the money you saved and go out and get yourself some decent dress shirts. The sleeves should be long enough to keep this covered so that no one EVER sees it. Your life will change. You will get to appointments and meetings on time, people will notice your fine taste reflected in your new shirts, your boss will promote you, women will adore you and the world will be your oyster!

Great watch5
The watch is great. It holds time better than my old Seiko and it can last a longer time without wearing it.
I recommend it!

Customer Reviews:

overall good deal but for beginner or intermediate runners4
This is a a very attractive watch which is definitely a plus. Also, the watch is relatively easy to use. However there a few drawbacks. For example, after thirty minutes, the watch no longer records seconds, only minutes. This unfortunately makes this watch futile unless you are a beginner and are not too concerned with precision. I wouldn’t recommend this watch for a serious or experienced runner. ( I am a sprinter that has taken up cross country thus i found this watch served its purpose considering I was running cross country to improve in sprinting events). Another major drawback is the lack of directions with the watch. I mean I understand the watch is only twenty bucks but can I get some fricking directions????!!!

Timex Watch4
The watch itself is a little larger than I wanted. It is very thick and catches on the cuffs of my clothing. I was looking for a sport watch that was more simple in style and a bit smaller and thinner. Other than the size, it apprears to be a good watch.

The service I received from the sender was great. It arrived in perfect shape and on time.

Good buy for the money4
I wear this watch almost all the time. I do the dishes, wash my face, take showers, work in the garden, even swim with that watch, and it has not fogged up or scratched. I like the indigo light to check out the time at night. I also like the date setting and the alarm setting. Too many other settings that I haven’t figured out yet. The wrist band is very comfortable. I usually don’t like the hard bands because they hurt, the soft bands get wet and moldy, others pinch or leave marks. This wrist band is excellent. I wish the watch looked a little bit more dressy to wear to the office, but I don’t care, I still wear it with a suit even though I know it looks a little off.

The Timex Story

The Timex Watch Company

Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex’s U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut’s Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the “Switzerland of America.” Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey’s hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through “torture tests,” such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo® lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

    Breathtaking and classic4
I’ve been eyeing a TAG for quite a while and did my homework. This watch is simply beautiful. It is substantial but not clunky. The features are sharp and distinctive. It goes with absolutely everything. It’s sporty enough to be casual but is classy enough to wear with a suit. One caveat: potential buyers should know that the watch comes with an amazon.com warranty, not the standard TAG Heuer warranty. The price makes up for it, but amazon should make it clear that is not an authorized reseller.

    BUY THIS WATCH!5
I purchased this watch after seeing a co worker with it…I am in Law Enforcement and usually dress casual or in business attire. This watch cover’s both spectrums completely. The quality of this watch is beyond expectation, the picture does not do this watch any justice. Once you put this piece of jewelry on your wrist I promise you will not be dissapointed. I ended up purchasing this through a local jeweler in NYC after doing better on the price and receiving the international warranty in place of the limited Amazon warranty.

    Everything I expected5
Watch was just as I expected, wonderful. I was of course concerned about not getting the full TAG warranty, but at 50% off retail, I think it was worth the risk. Have only had it for 2 weeks, but time is very accurate, and I am really pleased with how it looks. Had it inspected at jeweler to make sure it was real, they confirmed it, but noted from the serial number it was most likely originally from out of the US. Not really an issue to me as I know it is real, and once again it was half price!

    Customer Reviews:

    Just as I expected5
Casio Waveceptor Atomic Watch —I have ordered merchandise through Amazon previously and been very pleased. The watch recently ordered was no exception. It was received in just a few days, was just as advertised and is performing as expecteed. The instruction book says it is programmed for 28 years, so don’t expect me to order another one. This one will last through my lifetime - amd allow me to be on time for my funeral.

    Best Casio I’ve owned in 30 years!5
I have the rare WVA-510A Waveceptor (atomic/solar) version of this watch. These watches do what they advertise! Over the past several years mine has been hit, submerged with kids baths, and caught in a hot engine bay of a Honda Civic! A couple of days ago I accidentally passed it through a degaussing coil. Note: Do NOT do this! The battery charge indicator is now pegged at the max and the time advanced almost five minutes and would not auto-correct with the atomic clock. I opened the watch and reset it according to the instructions inside (as though you were replacing the battery). After two minutes it has synchronized with the atomic clock signal and is working fine. This is one tough little watch yet good looking enough to wear in the professional world. I’m now back at Amazon looking to buy another Waveceptor!

Nice watch for a great price4
This is a great watch for a great price. I have no problem receiving the atomic clock signal here at the East Coast. The only thing that I am missing and that I did not notice when looking at the online pictures: This watch has no analog seconds indicator. You can set it however to show the seconds digitally in the display. The metal band is oversized and I had to shorten it from both sides. You can do it yourself with a screwdriver. Unfortunately there is no description on how to do it, you have to figure it out yourself. I did and I am very happy with that watch.

    Amazon.com Product Description
You’ll never be late again with this super smart Atomic watch by Casio. The Atomic features an analog and digital display over a black dial for time telling at a glance. It receives a special time calibration signal and has a perpetual calendar, eliminating the need to adjust your watch during daylight savings time. The stainless-steel band provides comfort for all-day wear. Powered by analog-quartz movement, the 44-millimeter case is water resistant to a depth of 165 feet.

    The Casio Story
With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

In developing its own wristwatches Casio began with the basic question, “What is a wristwatch?” Rather than simply making a digital version of the conventional mechanical watch, we thought that the ideal wristwatch should be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was able to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the first watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eliminated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a conventional watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s first digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a complete departure from the conventional wristwatch.

Casio transformed the concept of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this innovative idea. We developed not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches developed into two unique Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the impact created when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and improved energy efficiency, Casio continues to produce a whole range of radio-controlled models.
