Graco Quilted Pack N Play Sheet5
I needed this sheet for a new Pack N Play I purchased for a visit with my daughter, son-in-law and 3-month old granddaughter. My daughter already has this sheet at home and I got it for my Pack N Play because it is her favorite. Washes and dries up great and fits the Graco Pack N Play like a glove. You will not be disappointed. Amazon’s lightning fast delivery is something I have come to depend on. I have never been disappointed with anything I’ve ordered from Amazon!

Helps pad the Pack and Play Mattress4
I purchased this for the Pack and Play and I am glad that I did. The ‘mattress’ that comes with it is not particularly comfortable and I imagine that this helped with making it a bit easier to sleep on. It washed well and while it did shrink a bit that was good as initially it was a bit big. So once washed it fit nicely.

soft and commfy5
this fits very nicely and keeps the mattress soft for our little one. We hang it to dry so it wont shrink but have not had any problems with it have been useing it for 6 weeks.

Customer Reviews:

Green way to garden5
These peat pots are great for the indoor or outdoor garden when used in flats or trays. As stand alone pot they can be a little messy as the pot itself becomes saturated. Best way to use these is to water the flat and let them wick up. They retain plenty of moisture but not to much so when your pot begins to get dry you know the soil is becoming dry.

I have found a mix of mostly Coconut Coir with about 20-30% Sphagnum Peat Moss makes a wonderful clean organic soil for these pots. You can also mix in a small amount of slow release organic fertilizer with your soil to aid in growth.

Perfect for upgrading Jiffy pods5
I’m back to order more. I started my seeds early this year, in the hopes that the mild winter and warm February/March were good signs for an early spring. Unfortunately spring hasn’t come yet though, and the roots of my tomato seedlings have been getting seriously tangled into other pods in my Jiffy seed-starting kit. So, when these pots arrived today, I was delighted to find that they are just exactly the right size to upgrade my Jiffy-disk tomato seedlings. The pods fit easily into these pots, with plenty of extra room to grow. Perfect!

Then place cutting material and die (face up) between cutting mats and turn the handle to move the die through the machine. Remove the die cut shape and start crafting. I’m a Bug lover!5
I can’t believe no one has reviewed this here. I spent a great deal of time researching other die-cut machines to work across ALL of my dies - Quickutz, Sizzix, Sizzlets - and this one does it all. The size of the cutting area is MUCH larger than Revolution and will do Revolution’s 4″ dies. My Sizzix dies cut like a dream, and even QK dies that I was thinking of sending back for replacement now cut without a problem!

I had no problems with curling or cracking, I read that some Cuttlebugs have a slight variation in the rollers and you have to experiment to find the sandwich makeup that works best for your machine and your dies. If one plate curls, I just put it in the opposite way. I also tend to put my dies at the very beginning of the plate and wind it backwards thru again after the cuts have been made.

6 QK 2″ dies at once!!! If you have the QK triple plates, you can do 2 at once!!!! It’s heaven!! Especially if you have doublecutz, you can do both plates at once!!!

Only down side doesn’t matter to me - suction on table gets lost after a short bit, but who cares, I always move it around anyway! And right now, Michaels and AC Moore allow you to buy it using their coupons — for the time being anyway!!!

I’m getting rid of my QK tool and my Sizzix machine!!!!

My favorite machine!5
I love my cuttlebug! It’s so easy to use, fun and worth every penny. It works perfect, every time. It’s also a plus that you can use your other brand of dies with this one machine. I do wish cuttlebug would make more dies of their own though. All in all, I love this thing.

Gotta have it5
This is an excellent product for scrapbooking with affordable dies to buy. I use my sizzlets in this machine and they work fine. I can put four of them in at one time. The embossing dies are great and they don’t need that much pressure from this machine to give you a crisp image. If you’re on a budget, then this machine is a must. It is very versatile. Some people say they have trouble keeping it from moving but I set it on a laminate countertop, hold the top(where the lifting handle is) down with one hand while I’m cranking. The dies stay in place–no shifting. Keep the instructions handy. I have to go back to them for reference (senior moments). No regrets.

Customer Reviews:

Simple maintenance for your fridge4
You gotta hand it to Maytag - they made replacing the water filter very simple. Took all of about 30 seconds from start to finish. And about 20 seconds of that was wiping up the water that dripped out of the old filter when I pulled it out, so the next change should go even better ;-)

We have a family of six and we drink water almost exclusively, so I went ahead and changed the filter at six months just like the owner’s guide recommended. However, I could see no evidence that the filter was near its end of life and am convinced that I can get more use out of the filters than the suggested six months. I will try to keep an eye on things, but without a little window I really have no way other than flow to know what is going on.

And that is why I gave this a rating of four stars. The filter seems to work wonderfully and replacement is a breeze, but I would be happier if I could look at the state of the filter while it is in use.

Bad Ice Cubes? Get this5
My Ice Cube make was having major problems. Ice Cubes were hollow and Ice was sticking on the White Prongs that pop the cubes out. I called Amana and they were no help so I figured that the Cube maker was not getting enough water flow.

I replaced with this filter and now the Ice Cube maker is like new and the water shoots out of the dispenser like crazy. What used to take 25-30 seconds to fill a glass of water now takes 3-5 seconds.

So if you are having Ice Cube issues or poor water flow buy this.

It’s a little expensive for a water filter but it’s worth it.

Oh and the water tastes good too.

How do you review a filter ?!5
As someone mentioned - it fits the fridge. Can’t recommend on cleanness of water but seems pretty clean.

From the Manufacturer
This Refrigerator Water Filter is used in Maytag and Jenn-Air refrigerators with filter access inside the refrigerator. Simply turn the Refrigerator Water Filter to remove and replace. While retaining beneficial fluoride, this NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filter reduces cysts, chlorine’s taste and odor, particulates, lead, mercury, and more. Replacing this Refrigerator Water Filter every 12 months ensures clean, safe drinking water.

Bunn patented brewing system holds water at the correct temperature, creates turbulence in the filter basket to fully extract coffee flavor and brews in 3 to 4 minutes so your coffee is never over-extracted and bitter. The power of the bunn brewing system starts with ready to brew hot water in the stainless steel tank. Water is kept at the ideal brewing temperature of approximately 200-degree fahrenheit with an internal thermostat. This means that when you are ready for fresh, hot coffee, it’s on its way. This is where the brewing magic happens. The patented spray head design showers water quickly and evenly on all the coffee grounds to ensure that they float and the coffee flavor is extracted from all the coffee equally and completely. This all happens in 3 to 4 minutes so your coffee is never over-extracted and bitter. Coffee lovers know that a thermal carafe treats the coffee inside with tender loving care. The stx features a stainless steel vacuum insulated carafe that keeps coffee hot without overheating.

Great coffee every time5
I was one of the first customers of this STX brewer. Full disclosure: Bunn awarded me this Bunn as a result of me winning their video contest earlier this summer. I have used Bunn brewers for about 10 years. This particular thermal model is solidly built compared to their last model which was all plastic, and would kind of bend at the slightest pressure if any were given on the top of the machine. Not so with this one. The quality can even be seen in the grounds basket - not your usual thin plastic basket. This one is very sturdy thick plastic, surrounded by stainless steel. The coffee produced is the usual Bunn quality - great. I’ve used this brewer every day and it consistently gives me the same quality pot of coffee. An even better value when purchased via stores like Amazon where the price is better than what can be had in your regular retail stores.

Bill15
We had a Bunn previous to this purchase but the original started to leak after 10 years. The original Bunn made good coffee but the coffee in the pot would cool after a few minutes. The new BUNN stays hot for about an hour and it too makes great coffee. We found the BUNN coffee maker to be well worth the money compared to buying a standard electric coffee pot.

Great Coffee5
I have had a Bunn for many years but this is my first one with a Thermal Carafe. The glass decanter with a burner keeps the coffee hot but it tastes burned after 15 minutes especially if its low. The decanter works great and keeps it hot for several hours without the burned taste. It also allows me to carry the carafe to my desk for convenience.

This is One Outstanding Vacuum5
I recently had to pick up a new vacuum when my old vacuum (an upright that wasn’t supposed to lose suction, but which broke down and stopped sucking altogether. At least stopped sucking dirt from the floor, that is) went kaput, and I did some research, trying to find one that was sturdy, had the extra tools, and really picked up dirt. I have two large-ish (50 - 70 pound) dogs that shed a bit, track in some dirt, and can cause carpet chaos, so I really wanted to bring home a powerhouse this time. I liked the early reviews I’d seen on this new Hoover Platinum, and liked how it combined cyclonic action (which I thought was one of those marketing terms, but which actually makes some cleaning sense) and Hoover’s own Windtunnel mechanisms (my mom swears by her Hoover she’s had forever with this, and hey, you have to be able to trust your mom, right), and so decided it was the vacuum for me. And, I’m darn happy so far that I did. It just picks up more dirt and dog hair from the carpet and upholstery than any vacuum I’ve had so far, and is great for cleaning all of a big house. Sometimes you just want to spot clean, but if you really want to get at cleaning, and really want cleaning power, this is the vacuum for those jobs. All the tools are a plus, too (especially the long hose and the crevice tool, which are perfect for stairs. Oh, the dusting brush is oddly handy, too. I’ve never really had one of those that worked that well, but this one’s tops. Maybe it’s just that the engine and all deliver enough power to make the dusting brush worthwhile, but I use it all the time), and it looks great, and the 6-year warranty is nice, but really, without the suction and dirt-pulling ability, would anything else matter? Nope, which is why I’m glad I made the right choice and went for this new Platinum vaccum, because it really picks up the dirt.

worth the money??? you decide3
well when we bought this vacuum we had High hopes, especially of the price. Let me start with the great part, More suction then any other vacuum we have ever owned. Brought out more dirt and dust then any vacuum we have ever owned. The dirt sensor is awesome, works just like described, usually by our doorways is the dirtiest and the sensor proves that.
Now for the bad. Size!!!!!! Too big, will not fit under our beds like all our other models that we have owned, even when you put it at the lowest setting it still will not fit. The extension is NOT long enough to do any vacuuming above shoulder height.
Would love to give it a 5 star ratings, but the two items that I mentioned are too important not to mark it down a star for each one. Would I buy it again? No, for the two reasons I mentioned, but Man the areas it does reach… Wow, what suction!!!

Good, but a few things you need to know4
We went through our second Dyson, and decided to switch just for the sake of doing so. Aside from the really high end European models, we opted for this new “prestige” line from Hoover, figuring it would be interesting to see what’s the best they can do at a higher price point.

The machine itself looks really good, and when you turn it on, it’s like starting a nice car, it almost purrs. The electronic start/stop and the electronic height adjustments are fabulous, very refined. And the machine seems to pick up everything in site.

Now, here are a few things to keep in mind, none of which are deal-breakers, but believe me, this thing is not perfect.

First and foremost, emptying the dirt chamber. At first we thought it was like most other bagless machines, you flick a lever and let the stuff fall in your garbage. But after about a week, we noticed the machine not picking up nearly as well, and we couldn’t figure out a thing.

Then we looked carefully and saw that a huge collection of hair and debris had collected inside an inner cup, wrapped around the so-called cyclonic device. Once we got rid of that stuff, the vacuum was like new again. Still, it is hardly referred to in the manual, and it is rather a messy task.

Finally is the “dirt” indicator. It works on some sort of audio principle, sending out sounds which come back distored if they run in to dirt. I find that this works most of the time, but sometimes, it just stays red, and even after going over the area five times, it stays red.

I guess one could beef about the extension cord, why they didn’t come up with some better way to unreel it and attach it to the machine. This is just like every other vacuum in that respect, but the cord seems longer.

I think I would buy it again, but the bag emptying procedure is sloppy and very unsophisticated. I’d be looking for machines that might do that job better.

Customer Reviews:

Among the best auto-drip brewers. See tips, below…5
I’ve spent several weeks week getting to know the Zojirushi Fresh Brew… and for the most part, I’m quite pleased. It has some foibles [which I’ll get to in a moment] but on the whole it’s a very capable coffee brewer. More, it’s one of the very few home models I know that can brew 8 cups of just-roasted coffee at a proper 2 tablespoons per cup ratio without fuss, and - this is important! - maintain proper brewing temperatures throughout the entire brew cycle.

The details…

Zoji has been making vacuum pots and the like for nearly 100 years, and they’ve been making an assortment of rice-cookers, tea brewers and hot water dispensers for decades. While this is, I believe, their first home coffee brewer, they’ve got more than a little experience in kitchen electrics. They’ve put that experience to good use.

If you’ve ever brewed up a thermos full of coffee using a big Melitta filter cone then this setup will look pretty familiar. For all intents and purposes, the Fresh Brew simply adds an automated hot water delivery system to the mix… with a few improvements.

Improvement number one: not only does this system brew into an all-stainless thermal carafe [no hot plate here, thankyouverymuch] but it also insulates the brew basket. What good is it, after all, to heat up all that water if it’s just going to get cold while you’re brewing? This is huge! This is important! This is… well, I’m excited about it, okay?

Improvement number two: the Fresh Brew features an accurate gauge of water volume. When it reads that you’ve got 8 cups of water in the brewer’s reservoir, it means it. Mind you, we’re talking 6 oz. cups of water — that’s the way the coffee world measures a cup [unless you’re Bodum and then it’s 4 oz.].

Improvement number three: the Fresh Brew is patient. The biggest pain about the manual pour-over method is that you’ve got to wait to add more water, especially if the coffee is really fresh. Fresh coffee blooms with its charge of CO2! Faced with a full basket of coffee that was literally fresh from the roaster the Zoji didn’t overflow, nor did it heave grounds into the water dispensing shower-head. More, the grounds were thoroughly saturated; no dry spots.

So where’s the foibles?

Like a great many autodrip brewers the feeder tube that comes from the Zoji’s heating element to the shower-head takes a straight path right through the water reservoir. For most brewers this is a game-over situation… the heating element simply can’t overcome the heat exchange that occurs en route to the brew-head. On the Zoji, the heating element *does* get hot enough… provided that the water you’ve placed in the reservoir is not *too* cold.

Example A: In the office using the “unchilled” spigot on the water cooler, I draw off 48 ounces of water for the reservoir and brew a pot. Throughout the brew cycle water temperatures in the brew basket range between 195 and 200 degrees F. The result is a lovely pot of Ethiopian Yrgacheffe that is sweet, floral and lemony.

Example B: At home I draw off 48 ounces of water from the water filter in-line with the refridgerator. The temperature of the water in the reservoir is about 40 degrees F. and the resulting temperature in the brew basket never tops 185 degrees F. The result is an icky pot of the very same Yrgacheffe that is bitter, murky and flat.

The moral: mind your initial water temperature and you’ll do just fine.

All in all, the Zojirushi Fresh Brew is capable of making 8 cups of coffee that’s on a par with manual pourover methods. Better, really, as it insulates the brew-basket to better maintain water temperatures.

Another quality Zoji product - just what I was looking for!5
I was looking for a coffee maker with a large capacity, unbreakable carafe, auto-shut-off, pause-and-serve, and a programmable timer. I found everything I wanted
with this Zoji.

It has a stylish, brushed stainless carafe that stays cool to the touch and has no breakable glass liner like some carafes have. The base has an easy to read water-level display, with markings up to 10 cups, but it has a larger capacity than my old 10 cup Braun. It also has a cute little elephant on it!

The 1.5 liters works out to approx. 51 ounces, or just over 6 (8-ounce) cups. My old “10 cup” coffee maker held about 5 8-ounce cups. I never have quite figured out what counts as a “cup” in coffee terms, but it seems to vary between 4 and 6 ounces.

This is a pretty tall (15 inches) coffee maker, and you have to lift the lid to add the coffee and the water. Since steam comes out of the top, I pull it out from under the cabinet when it’s running. If you have shallow counters, this could be a little tricky.

The only down side, in my opinion, is that it uses the hard-to-find #3 filters. I’ve gotten around it by cutting about 1 inch off the top of my #4s. I also had a little trouble getting the lid off the carafe when I screwed it on too tight - I had to put a towel over it to get a good grip. Those minor details aren’t enough to cost it a star, though.

I’m not sure how long coffee stays hot in this carafe, because we drink so much coffee around here it doesn’t stay in there very long. I did sleep in one morning, though, and the coffee that was automatically made at 6:15 was still hot at 7:30.

Overall, I am extremely happy with this coffee maker. I have hot coffee ready for me whenever I get up in the morning, and I never have to wonder whether I forgot to shut it off when I leave the house.

Quality Control Problems1
I really wanted this machine to work - nice design, good features, good price.

The first one I got had the little carafe cap broken. Not a big deal, I emailed the company and they promised to send me another one. About a week later, the unit simply stopped brewing. I called the support line for troubleshooting and they told me to send the unit back for replacement.

I sent it back and Amazon shipped another one out promptly. Everything was fine the first day, but when I picked up the carafe the next day, the bottom came right off in my hand exposing the innards of the seal mechanism for the thermos. The spot welds all along the rim hadn’t taken and the carafe literally came apart in my hands.

Again I called the company asking if this was normal. Again they told me to return it and “give them one more chance”. So I tried to - like I say, I really wanted this machine to work.

Unfortunately the response I got from Amazon was:

“As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread
than we originally thought, we are not able to send another
replacement.”

Probably just as well, after going through 2 units in under 2 weeks, the chances of the third one lasting anywhere near as long as I’d want it to are about nil.

So you can roll the dice and perhaps get yourself a good one - I did it twice and unfortunately got 2 lemons in a row.

Buyer beware.

(I never did get the replacement cap from the first one. When I called about that, the rep I spoke to told me that they get so many calls that it’s impossible for them to follow up on each one to make sure it was resolved. I can see why they’re overwhelmed with support calls and it’s even more disturbing that customer service lets things slip through the cracks like this…)

(about a month later)
I replaced this with a Braun KF600… the choice is obvious having had both machines: the Braun is simply a better designed and better constructed machine for about the same price. Save yourself the hassle and buy it instead. It takes up less counter space, has a gold cone filter instead of the ill-fitting #4 paper filters, there’s no twist cap on the carafe to fight with…
To be fair, it doesn’t have a timer. Not a big deal for me.

Amazon.com Review
Lots of folks dislike the burnt flavor that coffee gets when it sits in a glass pot over a heating element. To avoid this, coffee shops often brew right into large thermal pots to keep the coffee warm without it becoming overcooked. The Zojirushi Fresh Brew does that, too, but in home-sized batches. It looks great, too, with a glossy black body and stainless steel carafe and brew basket.

To brew, lift the lid and swing the water outlet spout to one side while the filter is being loaded; the spout will return to its proper position when the lid is closed. A small red ball in the water gauge makes it extra simple to read. And an electronic clock module also serves as a timer that will start the brewer at a specified time. The carafe’s lid is designed to be on during brewing, with a small cap to help keep the heat in after it’s ready. The Fresh Brew also has a pause-and-serve function that stops the flow for 30 seconds while a cup of coffee is served.

To clean the brewer unit, use a solution of white vinegar and water, following the instructions in the accompanying booklet. The unit is not immersible. The exterior can be wiped with a damp soft rag; do not use abrasives or scouring pads. The filter reservoir is removable; clean with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. The coffee brewer measures 15 by 12 by 9 inches (includes carafe handle when unit is completely assembled), and it uses #4 cone-shaped disposable paper filters. The Fresh Brew comes with a detailed instruction booklet. Zojirushi guarantees its products with a one-year limited warranty. –Garland Withers

Customer Reviews:

Quiet, Warm and it works.5
After buying two other humidifiers and throwing them away we finally bought this model last year and are very happy with it. The main feature we hated about the other models were Noise and the filters. This model is nice and quiet, it has a low humming sound and a gurgling sound that actually is very tolerable, and maybe even soothing. Our two year old doesn’t mind it at all, he sleeps better with it I think. Another advantage of the warm steam is that it keeps my sons room nice and warm and he needs that since he kicks off his blanket most of the time. The warm steam might be a disadvantage for people living in warm dry climate but it works great for northwest winters.
Although this unit does not have a filter a mineral pad comes with it and is recommended to remove minerals from the water if you use tap water. You can’t find the pad in most retail stores but can buy it here on Amazon.
Also it has a Ultraviolet Light bulb (great Feature) and after a year of use the Ultraviolet light finally went out and again I bought it here on Amazon. The unit is fairly maintenance free, you should clean it often but its not too bad.
Another great feature is the two water chambers, they hold enough water for the overnight operation so you don’t have to worry about running out of water in the middle of the night.
Overall this is the best humidifier that we have owned and I do recommend it.

It works very well (updated Dec. 23)4
I just got this unit (Vicks V790) from Amazon. (For several reasons, I greatly prefer the steam-type humidifiers over the cold-mist types.)

Pros - It’s attractive and well made. Twin independently-fillable water tanks mean you do not have to shut it off to refill it. Holds a lot of water so it does not go dry overnight. Makes a pleasant noise not unlike a drip coffee percolator. The UV lamp feature gives an additional level of sterilization, over and above the boiling action that creates the steam.

Cons - The blue LED power light is indeed bright. I turned mine toward the wall, and now it also serves as a night light. (If it really bothers you, a small piece of electrical tape will cover it.)

(EDIT) Previously I complained here about lack of vapor output. But after running it for a few days, output greatly increased. Apparently there is a slight break-in period. Naturally, water usage increased also, as did the boiling noise, but now it’s working like it should, and I have adequate RH (30%) even in my large (400 sq. ft.) room. Amazon does not allow me to change the rating, but if I could I would now give it 5 stars.

The replacement mineral absorber pads are the small 2-1/4 inch round size sold here on Amazon under the “Slant Fin” brand. (Don’t get the larger 3-1/4 inch Honeywell ones, unless you like trimming to fit with scissors.) You replace the pad when it gets stiff. If you have hard water, this may happen quite frequently.

Remember that all humidifiers require regular maintenance. This is where many owners drop the ball. Every month or so you should put some vinegar in it to dissolve any mineral deposits, and sterilize the tanks with bleach water. The exact procedure is clearly spelled out in the manual. If you disregard this, you will be handsomely rewarded with hard mineral crusts and foul-smelling slimy deposits of algae and bacteria.

In conclusion, I really like this humidifier so far.

Potential hazard?1
Like Honeywell warm mist humidifiers, this humidifier is actually made by Kaz and simply branded by Vicks. (Does anybody besides Kaz make warm mist humidifiers?) This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; Kaz makes some good humidifiers.

However, this particular humidifier gets such a low rating (and inspires my first rating ever, for that matter) for one critical reason:

WARNING: This humidifier must be ABSOLUTELY LEVEL (even a 1-degree tilt is too much) or else it will boil itself dry and never shut off. This could pose a fire hazard, and I had to return the unit for this reason. See “PLACEMENT” below for more.

I wanted to like this humidifier, so if the above isn’t a worry for you (or for more details on the problem), please read on:

OPERATION:
* There’s no hygrometer (humidity meter) on the unit. There’s just a dial that seems to range from “never turn on” to “always boil”. I have no idea whether the hygrometers on other humidifiers are even remotely accurate (especially since they’re right next to a source of humidity), so this might not practically be a downside, but it’s worth mentioning. I missed having one. (It’s clear from the pictures that it doesn’t have one, I just didn’t notice until it arrived.)
* It doesn’t seem to put out much steam, compared to other humidifiers I’ve used. It’s nice to claim that you don’t need to refill it more than every 24 hours, but that just means you’re putting out less than 4 gal/day. In contrast, our old humidifier (also 4 gallon capacity) could put out over 8 gal/day.
* It does look easy to clean, and it’s certainly easy to disassemble, but I haven’t had it long enough to determine whether it really is easy to clean. I suspect the deep cylinder of the heating element will be harder to clean than humidifiers that just have a flat heading element.
* As others have mentioned, the “ON” light is blindingly bright. I knew this when I bought it, so I just put some electrical tape over it. It’s also behind a translucent bezel, so you’ll probably want to cover a bit of the bezel as well. Note that the “refill” light is not nearly as bright, so you don’t need to cover it.
* Being a warm mist humidifier, it’s relatively expensive to operate, but it doesn’t have the white residue that ultrasonic humidifiers have, and boiling the water has some antibacterial benefits.
VERDICT: It puts out steam, but lacks most of the bells and whistles and attention to detail you’d expect for the price. I suspect you’re paying for the UV lamp and for the Vicks name (though, again, it’s actually Kaz).

UV LIGHT:
* Using a UV lamp to kill bacteria seems like a potential plus, but I’m somewhat skeptical that it actually provides any benefit beyond the boiling that all warm mist humidifiers do.
* It’s yet another consumable replaceable part (though it’s supposed to last about a year, and the humidifier will work when it’s burned out).
* Despite the lamp cover (and warnings not to look at the lamp), there are still a few places where the UV light is visible while in operation: (1) if you pick up the right tank, the hole which leads to the UV lamp has a blue glow, hopefully attenuated; (2) the lamp is visible from underneath the humidifier, so if you have this on a table top, you might be enjoying a little more UV light in your eyes than you intended.
VERDICT: Seems like a gimmick that introduces a lot of problems. Not really worth the trouble and potential risk.

NOISE:
* The boiling is very quiet.
* As Shane’s review observed (sadly, after I bought this), there’s a fan that’s always on. I presume the fan is required to cool the UV lamp (another strike against the UV lamp), since it’s on even when the humidifier isn’t boiling water. Thankfully, the fan is quieter than the large fans in filter/wick-based humidifiers, but it is louder than the boiling. So while the unit is quieter than filter-based humidifiers, it’s loud for a warm mist humidifier.
VERDICT: This very nearly made me return the unit immediately, as it was unexpected. I much prefer the silence of our old humidifier.

TANKS:
* The use of 2 tanks makes each tank lighter than a larger single tank. This is an improvement over other humidifiers we’ve used, where I was the only person who could lug the full tank from the bathtub to the humidifier. Also, the handles are very comfortable. The down side of 2 tanks, of course, is that you fill them twice as often. A worthwhile trade in our case.
* The seal around the caps of the tanks was the best I’ve encountered in a humidifier. When screwing them closed, they turned easily and distinctly stopped turning when they were fully tightened, and at that point there was no leaking. It’s possible that this would cause a problem over time (as the rubber seal gets compressed and you can’t tighten the cap further), but in my brief use of the humidifier I was impressed. Most other humidifiers require really cranking the caps down to keep them from leaking.
* The tanks were a little too tall to fill in our bathroom sink, which was a little surprising. That wasn’t an inherent problem, as we’re accustomed to filling our humidifier tanks in the bathtub. However:
* The tank openings are smaller than on other humidifiers I’ve used. On the plus side, that means it’s easier for small hands to screw them shut. On the minus side, it makes filling the tanks in a bathtub much harder. You either need to hold the tanks as you fill them (which get heavier as they fill), or you have to spend some time moving them around to just the right position if you put them on the tub floor. And if you turn the water pressure up or down at all, it’ll probably miss the hole until you reposition them. On the plus side, the top of the tanks is flat, making them easy to put on the tub floor.
* The tanks have completely flat bottoms (apart from the cap), which causes residual steam to condense on the bottom of them. That means that any time you pick them up, you’ll drip water everywhere (as others have noted). Other humidifiers I’ve used had curved bottoms, so that any condensation rolled down towards the cap and into the reservoir.
VERDICT: This is a draw. Having 2 tanks was nice, but dripping condensation everywhere was annoying. We had to keep a towel next to the humidifier.

PLACEMENT:
* As mentioned above, the humidifier must be ABSOLUTELY LEVEL. The manual does specify placing the humidifier on a “firm, flat, level surface” in multiple places, but who would expect less than 1 degree margin of error? I had to get out a bubble level to even perceive the slight incline. (And I measured it with a protractor.)
* Due to what I consider a major design flaw, if the humidifier is as little as 1 degree tilted forward, it will not shut off when the tanks are empty, and will instead boil dry. Compounding this flaw is that the humidifier does not have a temperature-based shutoff when it runs dry. It just keeps heating (and cooking the mineral absorption pad). I don’t know whether it will keep heating until the pad catches on fire, but I don’t intend to find out.
* It’s nearly impossible to tell when the humidifier has boiled dry, because there’s still water in the reservoir below the tanks, and because you can still feel heat rising from the top vent. (There’s even still water above the little hole leading to the UV lamp!) And because this unit never puts out visible steam, and because the always-on fan is louder than the boiling, it’s hard to tell that boiling has stopped. You have to disassemble the unit to see that the heating element has boiled dry — but be careful, the cone is hot to the touch if you haven’t waited the prescribed 15 minutes.
* The problem with a slight incline is primarily due to the use of a float switch to determine when the tanks are empty. In theory, this should be an improvement over other humidifiers that simply use an overheating sensor to determine that there’s no more water and/or they need cleaning (thus confusing the issue). However, the float switch in this humidifier is placed too far from the water inlet leading to the heating element (it’s on the opposite corner, in fact). Thus the inlet can run dry while there’s still water lifting the float switch.
* Worse still, the manufacturer seems to have decided that the use of the float switch eliminates the need for an overheating sensor. As a result, when the heating element runs dry, there’s nothing to shut it off.
* Because the path of the water from the reservoir past the UV lamp to the heating element is so complicated, even a 1-degree forward incline can cause the heating element to boil dry, but the reservoir (including the inlet to the UV lamp) to appear full.
* I tested other inclines (perfectly level, 1 degree in other directions), and they don’t have this problem. It’s only 1 degree tilted forward (tested multiple times) that’s a problem.
VERDICT: The potential for catastrophic failure when only 1 degree off-level renders this humidifier unacceptable for my use. I don’t want it in my house. I did check, and the box has a UL mark on it, so maybe there’s a fuse somewhere that will burn out before the flames start, but I don’t want to find out the hard way.

FINAL VERDICT:
* For me, the problems with boiling dry made this humidifier unacceptable.
* Apart from that, it seemed a capable though unremarkable humidifier. I’m not sure it’s worth the price premium for the “99.999% Germ Free” label given that boiling kills most germs anyway.
* Does anybody make a truly good warm mist humidifier?

Customer Reviews:

I chose this over the All Clad Non Stick slow cooker4
I spent a year looking for a good slow cooker that (1) When set on low did not boil food too hot (2) Could hold enough for large batch cooking (3) Did not have a hinged lid (hard to clean and breaks easily) (4) Is programmable for a set amount of time, then switches to warm (5) Was reasonably priced. I tried cheapo store brand round slow cookers which nuked my food - no need to explain since most people have had one at one point or another. Last fall I purchased the top of the line All Clad slow cooker with non-stick insert from Williams Sonoma. After sales tax it cost me a little over $300 which made me nervous. The first meal I made in it was braised short ribs. I browned the ribs in the slow cooker insert on the stove and set it on low for several hours. The food was delish and it kept a gentle simmer but I was horrified to find light scratch marks on the inside of the insert as I was washing the dishes. I used the All Clad for several days and then finally returned it because I couldn’t bear the thought of having paid that much money for something that wasn’t going to last. Besides, I felt a bit weird about simmering food for many hours in that non-stick coating that may one day start coming off. I then decided to look for a traditional crock pot with a timer - if I need to saute or brown I now do it in a cast iron pan the night before, deglaze, then dump all of the contents into a container that goes into the fridge if I am going to start the crock in the morning. When I get up I fill up the crock pot with the prepped food from the night before, hit the buttons, then leave for work. So far this ELume version has been great.

Pros: The low setting is actually a low simmer. I’ve made Indian lentil/dahl curries, bbq pulled pork, baked beans, Chinese jook/congee, Beef stew, Chili verde, red chili, soups, stock, the list goes on. I typically program it to cook for 10 hours on low and it works like a charm. Food is really slow cooked, and there are no hot spots, burned, stuck on food like previous appliances I’ve owned. The polished stainless finish looks beautiful - although not it does not have as high of quality finish as the All Clad.

Cons: The programmable button/pad area can be improved - the numbers are difficult to read unless you are looking at it directly at eye level, meaning you have to bend down to see what you’re pressing. Mine came with a burned-out area on the keypad but I didn’t bother returning it since it didn’t affect the function - you can still see that it’s the “on” button, it just doesn’t light up. The black keypad part feels a tad cheap and you can almost pry it off if you wanted to (esp. when it gets hot) because it’s glued on (!) albeit very sturdily - hopefully this lasts for a while. The crock pot itself gets a bit hot when cooking but not excessively hot like ones I’ve had before.

Bottom Line: I paid about $75 for this including tax. Purchased at Linens N Things with a coupon. I’m giving this a four star rating - good quality for that price but I would pay no more. Compared to my week of owning a $300 slow cooker, this is a bargain.

I Do Believe in Crock Pots4
For years I resisted getting a crock pot because I thought they were a silly fad or that I wouldn’t use it. I was wrong. I finally decided to take the plunge and after looking at a gazillion of them, I finally decided to order the e-Lume and I am glad I did. I can put the ingredients into it before I got to bed and when I get up all I have to do is put the food into containers, put a container in my lunch bag and off to work I go with a delicious homemade meal. And the white meat chicken comes out so tender and moist it almost falls apart. I am thrilled that the crock is dishwasher safe. And even though I am quite computer literate, sometimes programming an appliance can be confusing. But this is so intuitive that I didn’t even have to read the user manual to figure it out. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new crockpot or looking to jump into crock pot cooking. The only negative is that the crock is very heavy and could easily be dropped. To the person who said it took two hours to warm up, my soup was boiling in 45 minutes on the high setting. To the person who was concerned about the hole in the lid, it is kind of odd, but the moisture seems to drain out very quickly when I turn the lid sideways and it doesn’t seem to have a negative effect.

Love My New Crockpot!5
My mother used to make slow cooker dinners for us back in the early 70s. They were awful. I don’t know if she had a beta model of the slow cooker, or that no one had yet figured out the science of cooking with crocks, but I was a bit traumatized by the dinners that didn’t taste like anything but all tasted the same (sorry mom!). 40 years later, I thought a Crockpot might help me prepare food for my family because chaos always breaks out when dinner preparation starts (i.e. client calls, etc). A friend of mine is an expert cook and she swears by her crock. I decided to give it a shot. I researched models, and decided that this large size, easy to program model was a good fit. I was right. The first dish I made was chili, the second stuffed peppers, the third was navy been, beef brisket, chicken & sausage gumbo, then I moved on to steel cut oatmeal, unstuffed cabbage, and am cooking up a sausage chicken dish as I write this. Each dish has turned out better than the last. Here’s the surprising thing: I NEVER COOK, ever. My husband does all the cooking. No one is more surprised than I am that I am cooking and the food is amazing. The unstuffed cabbage is a family specialty- and the crockpot made the dish better than anyone has so far.
For non-cooks, I completely recommend this Crockpot! If someone actually knows how to cook, I only imagine that the flavor is even better.
The controls- simple to use. Cooks evenly. The size is perfect for our family (4 people) with plenty of leftovers. Easy to clean. The best part is that I am able to make a meal for my family before the unexpected craziness of the day starts. This Crockpot has changed they way I think about slow cookers, and changed the way I think of myself as a cook.
