Great for the Money4
This is the first Binoc purchase I have made and I will say I am quite pleased.

I have some outdoor friends that have those higher end models made from camera companies that are a few hundred dollars and in all honesty, I can’t tell much of a difference. Just remember, this is coming from a beginner. Obviously experts will point out of the “niddy griddy” flaws, etc. for one reason or other. I do the same in other fields of my expertises. But unlike the typical expert, I throw away my pride and firmly believe in the most bang for your buck.

And these Binocs definitely pull through.

Would have been five stars, but I agree with everyone else; the strap is a piece of crap. Haven’t even bothered putting in on.

P.S. remember that these magnify 20x. The average person will find it hard to keep the magnified image stable. Military uses 6-8x binocs for this reason.

Decent optics but focuser is sloppy3
Purchased the 16×50 version of these Bushnell binoculars (primarily for star gazing). While the optics seem fine (for the money) the rocker style focuser is easily jarred out of position, even simply by pressing the eyepieces to your eyes when gazing upward or by trying to adjust the diopter.

Probably good for terrestrial use but be prepared to wrestle with the focus when gazing skyward.

Great Fixed Power Binoculars!!!5
Greetings,
These binoculars focus great from up-close to far away. The PowerView Zip Focus works great for fast focusing and the views are sharp. This is a great deal for the money. Always set the Bino’s on a stationary surface when setting the diopter for matching your eyes the first time. Focus left eye first with PowerZoom focus with right eye shut, then open right eye and close left and adjust the diopter (twist right eyepiece) for right eye focus. Once set, you will experience great performance from your Bushnell Bino’s!!!! Enjoy! …Jamie

Customer Reviews:

Unexpectedly easy to set-up and reliable. What’s not to like?5
After upgrading my internet service, I was forced to purchase a new router to provide wireless access. After looking at the usual suspects, I purchased this item based on experience with Linksys on prior occasions and a decent price. The unit is rated for speeds up to 300 MBPS, is rated N and 2.4 GHZ. I am very glad I did purchase this particular router.

Pros:

1. Set-up: I literally have NEVER had such an easy time setting up a wireless network before. I simply took the unit from the box, gave it power and after installing the CD on my ‘home’ computer, the thing literally began finding the internet signal and within maybe 4 minutes completed the task. Voila! I had a network! Besides changing the name of the network and the password, I had no issues whatsoever - it simply worked. And I only had an issue briefly because I failed to turn off the previous router (I was too excited). Unbelievably easy. Actually, I think the word is astonishing.

2. Aesthetic: I think this matters for any electronic item because most likely you will be looking at it on a table or desk somewhere. And I have to say, this thing is ultra cool looking. No antennas. It is simply a futuristic flying saucer looking item. The unit is black, with an ultra-cool “Euro style” blue light panel. I certainly don’t mind having it around to look at continually. However, it does not have a small footprint. For a comparison, think of a trade paperback book and you will get the approximation of the size. It is oriented horizontally, not vertically. As is typical with these routers, you get 4 Ethernet ports on the back, a power plug, and a reset button on the back.

3. Reliability: I have not had any issues with this item since I purchased it. The network seems stable, and I have not had any drop-outs.

Neutral:

1. I did enter the router manually, and the router setting are not as easy to navigate around as other routers I have dealt with, but I found the buttons easy to change and manipulate.

Cons:

I bought this at a decent price, it worked instantly and it looks very neat and tidy. I have NO complaints.

Overall, I think this is an excellent product, and this is why I am sharing it with other readers. It just works!

Idiotic Software1
There are two interfaces to configure this router. One you access through the provided Cisco Connect Software, the other you access through the web interface at the standard 192.168.0.1. Neither one controls all of the features, and once you use one, you are forever barred from using the other unless you reset the router. This means that if your setup is anything non-standard, you lose much of the router’s functionality.

I’m currently stuck with an insecure guest wireless network broadcasting from my router. This guest network can only be configured or turned off using the software. However, I have to use the web interface to set up the static IP for my isp, because there’s no way to do it in the Cisco Connect software. Since I’ve changed settings using the web interface the software refuses to let me use it. Therefore, forevermore, whoever wants to can use as much of my bandwidth as they like, and I have no way to prevent it.

What a piece of crap.

Good router but poor installation procedure4
Admittedly, my installation is not typical. I already have a router and another wireless access point, that one G and this one N. So I had to change the settings. I had to disable DHCP before I could even get started, and I made some other changes, too. The problem is that the setup program is intended only for the simplest form of installation, directly to the modem and with no other routers in the network. I think it’s called Cisco Connect, on which the user guide is focused. But I never even got to the point where Cisco Connect could even be installed, much less function or solve any of my problems, due to my nonstandard installation.

In the end, I was able to set it up correctly, just poking around in the setup program and enduring a problem that seemed to solve itself after a couple of hours. With a different set of instructions for nonstandard installation, I might not have made so many frustrating wrong turns. The Cisco Connect approach probably works well for many, but not for anyone who strays from the straight and narrow.

Anyway, all is well now and it seems to be doing its job well as an N access point.

Customer Reviews:

FANTASTIC5
If you are reading this and the other reviews of the Garmin eTrex Vista HCx then you are doing your homework and wondering if this GPS is as good as all the hype makes it out to be. The short answer is YES! I have an old Garmin 12 Map which has served me well, but was getting a bit long in the tooth. I wanted something a bit smaller, lighter, with color screen and was water tight. The Vista HCx meets all of these needs and so many more. It is small in size, but with a fairly big and bright screen (easily readable in the sun) for its size.
Every review I read touted the extra sensitive antenna and how it picked up and locked onto satellites inside of homes or buildings. Well I can honestly tell you that it does all this and does it quick. How this happens it Garmin magic. I was always told you had to have line of sight to pick up satellites, but not in the case of the Vista HCx, it can get them just about anywhere short of being in a bunker.
The menu is intuitive and easy to navigate, so much more that my old Garmin 12 map. The long story short, this little GPS is the one for everyone else to beat. If you are seriously considering a GPS purchase for hiking or navigating the back country, do not look elsewhere, this is the one to get!
The base maps in the Vista HCx are of course upgradeable through additional accessories purchases from Garmin (at substantial cost), but worth the money. How Garmin managed to pack so much into so little a package is a mystery to me. Do yourself a favor, stop reading the review and just buy one, you will not be disappointed.
BTW, I purchased mine through Amazon.com and took advantage of the free shipping. It arrived four days ahead of when it was scheduled to arrive which was a nice surprise. Amazon has a very good price and I have always been happy with my purchases through them. And no I am not getting paid to say these nice things about Amazon, I am just a very satisfied customer.

Dan…

Great upgrade4
I bought it to replace my old Garmin Etrex Vista and I am very happy with it. When comparing it to my older model these are the main differences:

Pros:
* Really high sensitivity. Now it always works inside the car, and it always works when hiking in the forest. You can just drop it into your pocket or backpack.
* Routing capability. Very useful if you have a good map, even if it doesn’t give voice commands.
* Color screen rather than B/W makes it much more readable even if screen area is slightly smaller
* When saving Waypoints, now the date and time info is automatically included.
* Battery lasts at least twice
* Rapid transfer of maps and tracks through USB rather than serial!
* Compatible with the maps and logs that I already have. I transferred all the waypoints and tracks saved in my old Vista to this new model, through Mapsource without problem.
* Compatible with my car, motorbike and bicycle mounts that I already have from my Etrex Vista.
* I can still use the free maps that I used with my old Vista, from: http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/catalogue.php and from
http://www.malsingmaps.com/
* Automatic date setup (from the satellites?)
* When transferring to the PC, the Active Log is now transferred as a few tracks (I guess one for every time that you have powered up the device) rather than as a long list of tracks
* When saving a track, now you can decide exactly up to which point to save back.

Cons:
* Not compatible with two of my Etrex Vista accessories: Car power adaptor (now the power comes through the USB connector) and Garmin case (now the unit is a little bit wider and shorter)
* No Favorite Waypoints menu. Has been replaced by a Recent Finds Menu?
* User Interface is sometimes confusing and not easy to find the function that you are looking for.
* WAAS setting and backlight level get to off whenever you power off the unit rather than remembering the setting (firmware bug?)
* Product Manual is very bad. It tells you how to turn things on and off, not why and when you should turn something on and off.
* No Micro SD memory included so you cannot upload any map unless you buy one.
* For the next product update, could I ask Garmin to add a Voice Recorder function to be able record a voice note associated to each Waypoint?

It works great with a Mac but dismal documentation!2
After being content with my Garmin Vista, I decided it was time to upgrade to the latest Garmin Vista eTrex HCx. With a new MapSource Topo USA for MAC available, and the ability to transfer National Parks Topo Version 3 from PC to MAC I thought it would be an ideal time to “upgrade” to this model. The HCx has a beautiful color screen, is highly sensitive-acquiring satellites and able to navigate much more effectively! Response is quick-virtually instantaneous. Ergonomically the toggles are awkward and its easy to toggle into the wrong place-not a big deal and I image I’ll get used to it. This being said the documentation that comes with the unit is almost useless, covering just the basics. Forget about how to setup (at least for a MAC). The cd that comes with it is for PC’s only and there is absolutely no information on what a Mac user needs to do. You think a quick look at the Garmin website would have these answers. Nope! Nada! The website is a joke-as is customer support. I waited 32 minutes to speak to a rep and then was told I would have to be transferred to their Mac Dept. Okay fine. Another 34 minute wait. Thats; okay, I’m willing to wait-except the tech I finally get is about as helpful as a cord of wood. No help. I ask questions he doesn’t know the answers and doesn’t sound like he cares-hardly a Mac enthusiast. In fact I felt like he actually dispised my call. From simple things like where’s the serial number? (UPDATE: it’s behind the batteries) to do I need drivers to download to make this work? (UPDATE: No you don’t. In fact, if you’re using a Mac, just turn it on and it’s up and running-no need for “installation disc”)-if you want to transfer maps to your GPS, you must download the “MapInstall” program from Garmin’s website). This is a beautiful device that does what my old Vista did-except this one, is of course, much faster, and more effective-if I could get some information on it! If Garmin is going to claim they are moving toward Mac compatibility they should give a little more information to Mac user’s on their website (other than press releases on how they are now Mac friendly) or perhaps a few sentences in the manual explaining exactly what Mac users need to get this thing up-and-running; transferring maps, able to communicate with Mapsource software, etc.. I would like to give the HCx five stars, but because of absolutely no assistance for Mac users on their website or manual-and because of an initial bad customer service experience I give it two stars and sit here with a $270 GPS-$200 worth of new MapSource Maps (another product-another review) and a beautiful little machine that has quicker response and is much more capable than my old Vista-but just as useless on a Mac (REVISED: It works beautifully with my Mac. Perfect!). My enthusiasm dissolved after trying to upload maps or connect to my computer.

REVISED 6/30/08: Okay, finally! I got someone at Garmin customer service (very nice in the Mac Dept.) that could explain what-exactly needs to be done to get this puppy up-and-running: I had already downloaded the Garmin MapIntsall software (which you need to open, then select the device-in this case the HCx); there you will find all your maps (in my case the Topo Natl Parks and Topo USA for Mac). With the GPS plugged into USB port you simple select all the maps you want from one set of maps and then go to the other set and select the ones there). Works like a dream! Now if they would just make this clear somewhere (and believe me, it is not CLEAR anywhere). That being said, the experience I had today was much better. While I had to wait another 30 minutes to get customer service (who told me the serial number is located inside the battery case on the back) and then another 5 minutes to get to the Mac specialist-all my questions were answered! Both techs were very nice and helpful! Today’s experience would be 5 Star Customer service! while I have rated the device 2 stars-I would probably change to 4 stars. Why the missing star? Initial frustration that could have been alleviated if Garmin took the time to stuff some extra instructions in the box specifically for Mac user’s and made their website a little more friendly-and informative. The 24k NATL PARKS maps are beautiful on the color screens-as are the TOPO USA 2008 for Mac. The toggles are still awkward and unruly-but I’ll get used to it. So, in a nutshell; You can download multiple maps on to your Garmin Vista Hcx using MapInstall (dowload from their website) to your applications folder. Once downloaded, connect your HCx to USB and select device and have fun selecting your maps. One thing I was not real clear on until today is that “Bobcat” is strictly for viewing maps and transferring wayspoints, etc. It has nothing to do with uplading maps to your GPS. Use MapInstall to upload maps to the GPS. Today’s experience brought my faith back in Garmin customer service and technology. Thanks Garmin, for FINALLY becoming Mac compatible. I’m going to be a happy camper with this wonderful little GPS!

REVISED 7/6/08: Referring to the most recent “1 Star” Review; Yes, mine locks-up/freezes, too (nothing to do with Mac) unit freezes on the trail-at least once a day. No response from any buttons-unable to do anything until holding power button for long period-reboot. This is not cool! Will call Garmin Monday and see what’s up. Not good to hear they have a new chipset out and this may be the old one. After-all, I just purchased this. Will report back on what Garmin says. This sounds like an obvious defect.

REVISED 7/9/08: Emailed Garmin Monday-no response yet (3 days later)-so returned to Amazon for exchange. Amazon is great! No problem. Sent out a new one before I could box up the defective one-received replacement today! That’s customer service! Will let everyone know if the problem persists with replacement unit. Amazon 5 Stars! HCx?..not so sure anymore.

REVISED 7/11/08: Garmin emailed me 4 days later and explained that the new chipset is 3.0. My software version is 2.60. Used “Web-Updater” on my Mac and said I have the latest software. Everything is working beautifully with replacement Amazon sent me. No freezes or problems of any kind. Final score: Garmin HCx-4 Stars! Amazon-big 5 Stars!

Amazon.com Product Description
Neither deep foliage nor steep canyons will faze the rugged Garmin eTrex Vista HCx navigator. Equipped with a high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver, the unit locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover. The advantage is clear: whether you’re traipsing through thick woods or strolling near tall buildings and trees, you can count on the Vista HCx to help you find your way when you need it the most. The Vista HCx also includes a built-in electronic compass that provides bearing information even when you’re standing still, along with a barometric altimeter that tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude. You can even use the altimeter to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions.

Adding maps to the Vista HCx is easier than ever thanks to the device’s microSD card slot, which accepts cards preloaded with MapSource data for your land and sea excursions. Just insert a MapSource card with detailed street maps, and the Vista HCx will provide turn-by-turn directions to your destination. Plus, the card slot is located inside the waterproof battery compartment, so you needn’t worry about it getting wet.

Besides appreciating its small size, users will also be happy with the Vista HCx’s unique button layout, with five buttons located on either side of the unit. The benefits of this design are twofold: First, the Vista HCx is a breeze to operate with just one hand, and, second, with the buttons on both sides of the unit, the bulk of the front is dedicated to the 256-color, sunlight-readable TFT display. This makes it easy to distinguish map details regardless of the time of day.

The Vista HCx basemap, meanwhile, contains lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads, and coastlines–in short, a host of helpful details for your outdoor adventures. Other details include an IPX7 waterproof housing, 1,000 waypoints with names and graphic symbols, a built-in patch antenna, a USB interface, a hunt/fish calendar, sun and moon information, and a geocaching mode. The Vista HCx, which runs for up to 25 hours on a pair of AA batteries (not included), measures 2.2 by 4.2 by 1.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

What’s in the Box
eTrex Vista HCx, basemap, MapSource Trip & Waypoint Manager software, USB cable, wrist strap, quick start guide, user’s manual.

Olympus VN-5200PC is a nifty little package5
Update 7/17/2009: Olympus has just introduced its new Olympus VN-6200PC Digital Voice Recorder. The VN-6200PC is identical to the VN-5200PC in function and features, but now has twice the memory, 1 GB, for the same suggested list price as the VN-5200PC. My VN-5200PC is great, but the VN-6200PC should be even better!

If you need a quality, low-cost, monaural digital voice recorder that easily records and transfers Windows Media Audio (WMA) files fast via a USB 2.0 connection to your PC without any extra software, the Olympus VN-5200PC is a great choice. It outperforms the popular Olympus VN-4100PC Digital Voice Recorder in nearly every way…more storage, longer recording time, longer battery life, more folders and files, greater frequency response, greater output level. Over 221 hours in LP record mode, and you still get over 35 hours in HQ mode…that’s 200-13,000 Hz range, good enough to hum or strum your spur of the moment musical inspirations if you are into songwriting. It also has variable voice activation and a dynamic display of audio recording level. About the only feature the VN-4100PC has which the VN-5200PC doesn’t is timer recording and playback if you really need it.

It does take a couple of readings of the instructions and a little practice to familiarize yourself with operating the VN-5200PC, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really easy and intuitive to use. There are 5 folders, each able to hold up to 200 files. Every time you start and stop a recording, a new file is automatically created. The files and folders are easily transferred to your PC via the USB connection. Just plug in to your PC, and your VN-5200PC automatically looks just like any disc drive or storage device on your PC with a Windows directory displaying the files and folders. Just “select all” and move or copy the files to a disc drive to save the files in one operation. Playing the files just involves clicking on the audio file icons, and Windows Media Player pops up and goes to work. You can easily play all of the files in a folder in sequence with just one click on a Windows playing option that automatically creates a playlist of all the files. The files can easily be renamed both on the disc drive and on the VN-5200PC. They can be any name you choose. They don’t have to have any specific format. Any file of any type with any name (text files, PDF files, etc.) can also be copied to and stored on the VN-5200PC. However, for an audio file to play on the VN-5200PC, it must be a WMA file and it must be copied or moved into one of the five specific audio folders on the VN-5200PC.

The Olympus VN-5200PC has no editing features. You can easily place and remove index markers to quickly return to specific file locations in playback mode, but any file editing must be done on the computer. While Windows Media Player allows you to select and sequence the files via a playlist, you will need to purchase separate software if you wish to edit or combine the files or convert them to other audio file formats such as MP3 or WAV.

One annoying feature of the VN-5200PC is that the earphone jack is monaural and, without an adapter, not compatible with the stereo headphones everybody has for their iPods or their old Walkman players. That’s just plain stupid on the part of Olympus. Even my old mono GE microcassette recorder has a stereo earphone jack. A 1/8″ stereo jack to 1/8″ mono plug adapter can be bought at Radio Shack for $2.99 to solve the problem, a cost and inconvenience that should not be necessary. Another gripe is that the USB cable provided by Olympus with the VN-5200PC is only 6 inches long. This is okay for a laptop computer, but a USB extension cable may be necessary for your desktop computer. Target sells the 6 ft. Belkin USB Extension Cable (A-A) for $7.99. A type-A plug to 5-pin mini-plug USB cable can also be used.

In short, the Olympus VN-5200PC is for notes, meetings, lectures, dictation, emailing audio messages, and even songwriting. Its features are basic, price is modest, and the value is good. If you are into live music and MP3, news interviews, need stereo and fancy features, then go for the higher-priced Olympus digital recorders.

NOTE: Free, full-feature (not a “demo” copy), open-source software downloads to edit and convert audio files are available. SUPER© from erightsoft works on Windows platforms and will convert just about any audio file format to any other audio format. Audacity from Sourceforge is a full-featured audio file editor that works on Windows and Mac. Audacity is not licensed to directly import and convert WMA files, so it makes use of 3rd party software for WMA conversion. With Audacity 1.2, SUPER© or iTunes can be used to first convert WMA files to a format Audacity can accept, such as WAV. Audacity 1.3, a beta-test version, makes use of a free, separately downloaded ffmpeg import/export library to seamlessly import, export, and convert WMA files. (Currently, for use on the Mac, the ffmpeg library source code must first be converted to binary code… a job for “Mac-techies” only!)

Maybe mine was a lemon2
I first owned the VN3100, then went to the VN4100PC, both of which were very decent units. When I saw the VN5200PC with a large memory and slightly better feature set I thought, this is the one for me! Well, I was wrong, regardless of the room size the voices that are picked up by the built in mic are always soft or muffled, sometimes inaudible. You need to be within a couple of feet of the unit to get any decent definition of sound. Perhaps mine in a lemon, I haven’t checked on that possibility, but regardless it is truly disappointing. On the bright side I purchased an ME52W Olympus external mic for the unit and now voices boom on playback regardless of room size. I’m referring to conference room sized rooms, not auditoriums. It would have been nice if the unit would function properly without an additional external mic.

One more peeve is the lack of organizer program for your PC. The VN4200PC came with a very basic, but very useful program that allowed you to sort and file recordings on your PC. The VN5200PC does not. The best you can do is dump the files on disc and then use some other program to figure out how to arrange and file the recordings. So far this has been a tedious and annoying process.

In short, this unit would have been great if only two points had been given some thought. 1) A useful built-in mic, 2) Simply update the VN4200PC file organizer for the VN5200PC. As it stands it’s not worth the trouble or price.

For Personal Not Professional Use2
I am a physician and bought this recorder to dictate patient charts. The recorder is easy to use with a user friendly screen. Also if you are recording something where you do not have to stop the recorder at any time and continue in the same file then this is for you. However, what they do not tell you that if you are dictating or recording yourself and you are 10 minutes into your recording and then want to rewind one minute and record over a the previous minute, you can not do it. There is no way to pause a recording, rewind and then record in the same file. The machine will start a new file. Even the old tape recorders allow you to rewind if you make a mistake or want to go back some and continue recording in the same file. So I’m giving this and all recorders that don’t have this function a poor score as they deserve.

Customer Reviews:

Impressive quality and perfect size4
When I got the package, the first thing that made me happy was the size of this camera. I travel a fair amount on business and have a two-year-old daughter, so I always take a camera with me to talk to her at night and allow her to see me. The size of this camera is as good as it gets for traveling, and it also includes a great padded pouch for transporting it.

The other aspect of this product that I loved is its image quality, especially in regards to how well it adjusts the image based on the light and also how when you are on a Skype call and you move, the person on the other side can clearly see the movement instead of seeing a blur on their screen. I compared its quality side by side with my previous camera, which roughly costs half of what this one goes for, and the difference in quality was huge; making this a great purchase.

In terms of the software installation, the instructions were simple and clear and the process does not take too much time. The only thing that can be improved is that when you get to the point in which you are prompted to plug in the camera, while the computer is checking the configuration, the installation screen keeps prompting for the camera to be plugged in. People used to installing plug-and-play hardware will quickly realize what is going on, but some users may be confused by this and start unplugging and plugging the device.

In terms of using the camera with Skype, the integration is seamless. The only setting I had to adjust manually was the microphone, but this is straightforward, I just needed to go to the Options / Sound Devices and pick the appropriate audio in. A final thing to consider is that for the camera to work with Skype you have to close the Logitech Quickcam software, since the image cannot be used by both programs at the same time.

Overall I am highly satisfied with this product, and besides the minor problems mentioned above, the only other thing I did not care for was the stand. This camera works great if you are going to clip it to your laptop screen, but the stand provided for use with desktops is wobbly and does not help with image quality at all.

Nearly Excellent but Flawed Optics3
Update: A replacement unit has good focus from side to side. The focusing defect I saw appears to be unit specific. Check your unit for focus uniformity across its entire field of view to avoid a defective unit. Once you have a good one, the image quality is excellent.

This webcam does produce a better picture than the built-in camera of a MacBook. Yes, it works with with Mac OS 10.4.10 natively as a UVC device. HOWEVER, the unit I purchased had a focusing flaw. The left side of the image was always slightly out of focus while the right side of the image was well focused. As a result, the very nice lens system just could not get the entire picture right. This focusing flaw was not so noticeable at iChat’s low 640 x 480 resolution, but if native resolution images were captured using other webcam capture software, the left 1/3 of the image was clearly out of focus. I believe the unit had its glass lens tilted relative to the CCD preventing it from ever bringing both sides into focus. As a result, the camera’s touted superior lens was largely negated.

However, it is otherwise an impressive camera which delivers better tolerance to poor lighting than the built-in MacBook camera. The increased resolution CCD is impressive (in the focused portions of he picture) and gamma response yielded an image which conveyed greater depth.

If the entire image were in focus simultaneously (in full resolution captures) I would have given this using 5 stars. With the optical flaw, I can only give it 3/5. It is possible that other specimens may have better alignment between the lens and CCD, but without testing several more units, I don’t know if the problem is a design flaw or simply a single missaligned unit.

[…]

Great Little Webcam5
This is the perfect webcam for using with a laptop. The image quality is outstanding and works well even in low light. The cord is just long enough to connect up to a USB port without getting in the way and saves space when packed up in the tiny neoprene case that’s included. Logitech even thought to include a handy mini velcro strap on the USB cord to keep things organized. There’s a small and quite adequate microphone with the camera. The stand that is included with the camera breaks apart into three smaller pieces so it can also easily fit in one’s gear bag. I’m a bit concerned it’s not quite sturdy enough for constant assembly-and-disassembly. I can see using the stand quite a bit when attending lectures because it isolates the microphone from the sound of keyboard typing. I also own an Quick Cam Ultra Vision on a workstation at work. All in all, I’d say that this tiny webcam gives the huge Ultra Vision a good run for it’s money on image quality and features, but is much more convenient for the road warrior. Logitech is obviously taking web cams seriously– these are the two best webcams I have ever seen. They suddenly make video conferencing, video Skype, and OneNote video notes a must have.

Customer Reviews:

Negative reviews show lack of understanding…5
To begin with, if you’re looking at this battery, you might have a D200. If so, you have no choice in the matter. Whether it’s 1 star or 5, if you don’t buy this battery you have a $1,700 paperweight (and yes, I’m the proud owner of a D200 in non-paperweight mode).

Second, the battery is not what’s at fault here. The D200 is an energy monster. It sucks these poor little guys dry like a starved man at a all-you-can-eat. (This is the price of the incredible functionality offered by the D200. If you want longer bettery life, you’ll have to give up MUCH of what makes the D200 the powerhouse it is.) The EL3e performs wonderfullly in the D70/50, providing slightly longer life than the recalled EL3a (the third contact on the EL3e is for the D200 only. The 70 & 50 both ignore it).

Bottom line: There is nothing wrong with this battery. If you have a D70 or D50, buy with the assurance it will take many, many shots on a single charge. If you have a D200, buy because you have to then realize that *you* determine how long the battery lives. A VR lens will cut an already “short” battery life even more. So, you can complain about the battery being the issue or the D200 being the issue. Only the latter is correct. If you want long battery life, go back to the D70.

Personal rant: The D200 is worth the reduced battery life in so many ways that I’m actually annoyed with those that complain about this. Sure, the battery could last longer, but why stop there? I’D like 20Mp, ISO speeds to 3200 with no noise at all, a 10-400mm VR lens tack sharp at all apertures with f/1.4 throughout. But you know what? Not gonna happen. The D200 provides FAR more capability than what you actually paid for (just ask D2X users), so stop whining about short battery life. There’s no such thing as the perfect camera. The D200 comes so close, however, it’s almost sacriligious to whine about it. By all means, let’s teach Nikon a lesson! How dare they give us this camera at 2/3 of what they could *easily* sell it for and not give us 800 RAW’s/charge? >:(

And FWIW, you most certainly CAN get 1800 JPG’s from one charge, You just have to do it like Nikon did. Yes, their tests are unrealistic in that respect, but if you’re so upset about it, return the camera and let someone who will appreciate it have their turn…

PS To “Dwarfbug” why did you give the *battery* 2 stars? These reviews are exactly that: reviews. Speak about the product in question. Don’t just respond to someone’s review and drop 2 stars with no explanation why. And also speak about something you know. There is no recall on the D200. There is a recall on the EN-EL3 which will not work in the D200 anyway. It is a D50/D70 battery and is replaced with either the EN-EL3a or the EN-EL3e (the “e” being a pretty sweet deal (some even resell them to D200 users a buy TWO 3rd party EN-EL3a’s (Targus, etc))).

If you own a Nikon DSLR get this battery.5
This battery is backwards compatible with the D50, D70/70s, and is used in the D80 and D200. So if you have any Nikon DSLR and want a second battery, you want to get this one so that when you upgrade your camera you can use the battery.

This battery has built-in circuitry that tells you the actual charge status of the battery, and it is accurate. This is a big deal; *if you are using the D200 or D80* it lets you know when your really do need to switch batteries or charge up. This is the first battery I’ve seen that is accurate in this regard. Kudos to Nikon. (This feature does not work in the D50/70/70s but the battery otherwise works fine).

its a battery4
The new Nikon EN-EL3e battery is a slight update for the Nikon EN-EL3 provided with earlier dSLR models such as the D70. It adds a contact that allows new cameras to determine how much charge is left in the battery. The battery is grey to distinguish it from the black EN-EL3.

The EN-EL3e is backwards compatible with the EN-EL3: you can put it in your D70 or D50. The reverse is not true.

The number of pictures that the battery gives you depends on a lot of factors, including shooting style, LCD usage, and of course, camera. (The 2.5″ LCD on the D200 will use up the battery much quicker than the smaller D70.) It is sufficient for a day of shooting. Unless you are using a D200 in some professional capacity, in which case, you’ll probably be investing in at least one backup battery.

Manufacturer Description
EN-EL3e Li-ion Rechargeable Battery for Nikon digital SLR cameras. Keeping a spare battery on hand ensures that you will always be ready to capture the images you want most. And, while Li-ion rechargeable batteries are less prone to recharge “memory,” using the normal complete charge of one battery before recharging will better ensure optimum rechargeable battery life. A freshly charged spare battery allows this and provides uninterrupted photography.

Compatible with:
Nikon D50, D70, D70S, D100, D200 Digital SLR Cameras. Can be used with MB-D200 Multi Power Battery Pack.

Customer Reviews:

Great so far5
Quick shipment and no damages great job to Amazon on that one.

This battery had no problems connecting and entered smoothly. I am getting about and average of 3.5 hours of battery life while my laptop does some crazy multitasking. I have not had any problems yet and hope not to but for now it has been great for the price. I will try to update in a month on its condition.

Exactly like the Dell one5
Not much to say,
I was afraid not buying the original dell battery - for no good reason.
This battery does exactly what it is supposed to do for 1/3 of the price (compared to original dell battery).

If you hesitate - don’t. Just get one.

Great Optional Battery5
This battery is an excellent upgrade when you need the extra life off the cord. For most average computer work I get about 4 hours of work time. Obviously running DVD’s will cut that time, but yuou can easily watch an entire movie and still have some time left for work. Even the little wrist rest is not much of an annoyance.

I saw that this battery was around 1/2 the price of the Apple-branded battery, and it had a few positive reviews on Amazon.com, so I thought I’d give it a shot. It arrived promptly, but when I put it in place and went to charge it, the charge would not go above 26%. I took it to my local Apple store, and he confirmed through diagnostics that it was a bad battery. He then proceeded to give me a new battery at no charge (I was buying an iMac at the time). Score: Apple 1, Agptek/Amazon 0.

Also, the promised thumb drive never arrived.

Perfect replacement for the price!5
I have been leery of purchasing an off-brand battery replacement. After doing some homework and discovering that others have experienced poor fitting batteries and coloring issues, I took a chance on this battery, given that the (albeit few) reviews had been positive.

I’m very pleased with the final product. Seller ships quickly, and after nearly a month of use, I have found the difference in battery life to be insignificant in comparison to the Apple OEM battery. Considering I paid half as much for essentially the same performance, I’m one happy camper.

Like a charm5
An affordable, reliable battery. have had mine for a while now, and it still gives me more charge than i remember the stock mac battery ever having. My old macbook pro battery still holds a charge, but only about a quarter of this thing. So i still use both when im having a long day of class. Regardless, this battery is about half the price of the OEM macbook pro battery, and if you are on a budget, don’t be afraid of the product that costs less. In fact, apple doesn’t even make its own batteries, they are produced by a third party. So, get this battery, you wont be disappointed.
