It is the transfer that I don’t like at all. I loathe it when the movie is not presented in its novel aspect ratio which, in this case, is 2,35:1!! Do you read this MGM USA???
Unfortunately, I did not know this prior to buying the disc.
It is the same with “White Lightning”, although I can live with the full-screen in this case; it would have been matted in the wide-screen transfer anyway.
Do yourselves a favor and order the DVD in the European PAL format on amazon.co.uk because in the UK both Gator titles are presented in anamorphic wide-screen!!

Gator is pure guilty pleasure. Burt Reynolds directed and stared in this 1976 follow up to the grand WHITE LIGHTNING. This time the feds don’t want Gator for running moonshine, but to go undercover to procure evidence on his boyhood pal Bama McCall (Jerry Reed) . Lots of action, fighting, boat chases and Reynolds signature style. The movie gets 5 stars but not the DVD. The transfer is amazing compared to the primitive VHS tape, but sadly the DVD is only Bulky FRAME the movie was shot in SCOPE, so most of the narrate is cropped off. It would have been nice to have a commentary track from at least Burt Reynolds, since this was his first directorial debut.
