Made in 1946, this is one of the best slapstick comedies ever, starting from the first scene with the cigar smoking grandmother, played to the max by Sara Garcia, who’s comedic timing is perfection. The plot she wields her cane will have you howling with laughter.
Pedro Infante is also fine and silly as her tequila drinking grandson, and so are Abel Salazar as his gentle, unpleasant brother, and Victor Manuel Mendoza as his vain, rich one. The trios they convey are a delight. I especially like the “Cielito Lindo”…it’s a dazzling rendition of this popular song.
The charro/bullfighting scene is sensational, and the sepia toned cinematography fantastic. Though it has an occasional line going through it in the first share of the film, it’s amazingly sure…and you’ll be so amused that you’ll forget that your’re watching a film that’s nearly 55 years venerable. If nothing else but to peek these hilarious performances (oh! Sara is a jewel!) this is one not to miss.
The first time I watched this movie I was about 8yrs mature. This movie stuck w/ me. It was untill I was 16 that I had the oppurtunity to notion this movie again and even though it was eight years it collected left the same impression. This movie is spacious. This movie has a sizable fable with amazing acting by Pedro Infante. Infact all of his films, now that have seen most of them, are sizable. I recently watched the sequel to this movie and it blew me away how laughable it was but yet very emotional. This a must peer for any spanish movie buff.
