Versus Tamron 17-50, Canon 17-55 [is], Canon 17-85[is], Canon 18-55[is]
I own the best Canon 17-55 F/2.8, but it is also heavy and expensive for risky environments like windy beaches to packed clubhouses. I need an affordable F/2.8 backup, so I bought this Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 Macro. Having read many account of sigma lens front/back focusing, I have a very low expectation for my lens. Luckily, my fear proves to be unfounded, as my 18-50mm f/2.8 macro is free from rear/front focusing.

[ Biggest Surprise ] = Fast + Silent + Reliable focusing. Even without HSM/USM motor, the AF speed is fast & comparable to my canon 17-55 f/2.8 usm in dim light. Under the same setting, my tamron 17-50 f/2.8’s banshee-like micro-motor scream loudly yet failed to find focus after 1 minutes.
+ The build quality is near “L”, better than my expensive Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS
+ Size is very small compare to my gigantic canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS
+ Fantastic MACRO lens on the run

[Disappointment] 18mm F/2.8 “wide open” is softer than Tamron 17-50mm.
- Canon 17-55 f/2.8 @f/2.8 is sharper than sigma 18mm @f/5.6 (no joke!)
- Field of view is closer to 18.5mm or 19mm.

Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 Macro is jack-of-all-trade, master of none. While tamron is sharper @17mm f/2.8 than sigma is @18mm f/2.8 “when in focused”, sigma has superior AF motor that is far more reliable under any circumstance. Sigma is a pleasure to use in real life ownership, free from fousing-worrying that plagued my tamron. Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 is a combination between the reliable yet so-so IQ of canon 17-85is + tamron 17-50’s superior IQ, but poor autofocusing mechanics. Highly Recommended!

A versatile lens for a great price
Just another vote of confidence for this lens. (I posted this same review at another online retailer, but since I bought it from Amazon, I decided to post it here, too.)

After learning to love prime lenses, it was time to replace the underwhelming kit lens of my Rebel XT with better quality glass. I looked long and hard for a fast zoom that covered the wide-to-medium range despite the XT’s crop factor, and finally settled on the Sigma.

Although I haven’t laid my hands on the competition (including a similar 17-55mm f2.8 EF-S from Canon for more than *twice* as much, and the slower 17-40mm f4L), I don’t regret my purchase at all. I was a bit wary at first about buying a non-Canon lens, especially after reading a few complaints online about bad samples, but the lens turned out to be just fine.

Edge-to-edge sharpness looks great to me, even wide open, and vignetting doesn’t seem to be a problem. I’m not a professional, and don’t own any L-series glass, but this is far more than I expected for the price.

The macro ability is also a nice bonus, as is the lens hood and case included in the package. I wouldn’t call the lens “lightweight” (since I still prefer small primes when I don’t need the versatility), but it’s still a reasonable fit on the diminutive XT body.

I’m not crazy about the slight sparkle in the powder coat, but hey, that’s hardly a complaint. All in all, I couldn’t be happier!

Excellent Image Quality, Low Cost, Great Build!
This is evidently Sigma’s third release of this lens, and it now includes HSM (HyperSonic Motor) so that it will work on cameras like the Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D3000, and D5000. These cameras have no built-in body autofocus (AF) motor. The AF motor is built into the Sigma lens, instead.

The easy way to make sure you are getting the HSM version is to check the sales ad for the filter size. The older lenses had a 67mm filter, while the new lens has a 72mm filter and lens cap. Looking at the lens, it seems a little shorter in length, yet slightly bigger around compared to the older lenses, due to the larger glass.

In shooting with this lens, I find the image quality to be simply superb at f/5.6 and f/8. At f/8 it is every bit as good as some of my Nikkor prime lenses. I don’t make that statement lightly! I am a strong user of single focal length prime lenses. The reason I bought this lens is because I own the Sigma 10-20mm super-wide, and found its image quality to be excellent at f/8, also. I am a tripod-based landscape shooter, so I am mostly concerned with maximum sharpness, low chromatic aberration, and nice contrast. The newest Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX DC HSM lens delivers on all those fronts. It is a lightweight carry lens for everyday “normal” use.

Opening the lens up to f/2.8 lowers sharpness, especially in the extreme corners. The nice thing, though, is that my Sigma is about as sharp wide-open, as my Nikkor 24-120mm VR lens is at f/5.6. It is quite usable and impressive at f/2.8 and even has very low vignetting, which is an unexpected bonus. Stopping down to f/4 brings this lens into a high-sharpness range that gets progressively better to about f/11. After that significant sharpness is lost due to diffraction (light being diverted by the edges of the aperture blades). At F/22, this lens seems less sharp than when wide-open. I consider the maximum-quality usability range of this lens to be between f/4 and f/11. The larger and smaller apertures are there when you need them, but with some loss of sharpness.

The short focal length range (18 to 50mm) is necessary to keep image quality under strict control. Most “professional” lenses will not have a large focal length range, since it is very difficult to correct for lens issues over a broad range of lengths in one lens.

The Macro feature on this lens is quite usable. I was carrying a 60mm Micro Nikkor in my daily carry bag, but no longer do so. While not true macro, it is very close, and allows me to get up to within a couple of inches of my subject at 50mm. Quite impressive!

I’ve been using this lens for several weeks now, and would buy it again! No lens is perfect, and I don’t expect this one to be. However, it easily meets my needs for a very sharp lens that will replace my use of several prime lenses. It adds little weight to my digital Nikons, so I can take it with me everywhere. It has become the daily “carry” lens on my Nikon D300. The images I have created with this lens, so far, have made me very happy. I enthusiastically recommend it!

The Lizzie McGuire Movie picks up where the Hit Disney Channel Novel TV Series left off. The Lizzie McGuire Movie was a extraordinary surprise, even for this true Hilary lover and long-time fan of the series. From the smart cute and perfect opening scene, to the fan and crowd lovely feel-good ending, this was a perfect movie for such a astronomical hit TV reveal. I must admit, it WAS glorious peculiar to leer all the Lizzie McGuire characters on the spacious camouflage, but it was very frosty once I got former to it. The graduation scene bothered me a bit, because they felt they had to give an explanation for every major character, making statements the TV indicate fans already knew, like how Kate outmoded to be Lizzie’s best friend until she became current, etc…, but that was the only thing in the whole movie that bugged me. It wouldn’t even have been that poor, if not for the method they did it, rushing from one character to another like, “we need to gain these character explanations out of the diagram,” mentioning how Lizzie’s other best friend, Miranda, was away in Mexico and things like that. But like I said, that was the only allotment that bugged me in an otherwise incredibly stout movie! As a long-time fan of the display, a couple of parts nearly made me shout, though I’m certain sometimes it was impartial the result of seeing my dreamgirl, Hilary Duff, up there looking astonishing and doing the best acting I’ve ever seen her do! The piece where she gets on stage and does her thing, I was really getting choked up, because after coming to know the character the design we have from the TV series, it was fabulous to spy the things Lizzie was doing in this movie as she finally found her confidence! Oh, what I would have given to have traded places with Gordo in that movie!

Hillary Duff is going to be a tremendous star and she is already on the shimmering road to a enormous future. Not only does she peek cute, but she can act and enlighten to. Oh yeah, and she seems incredibly humble and sweet despite all of her success.

Her Disney Channel series “Lizzie McGuire” makes its scheme to the big-screen in a finale movie that will certainly sit well with young girls. It’s unbiased a 90-minute episode of the current television exhibit, with some extra money in the budget to shoot on position in Rome. But we can be grateful that it is a nice, wholeome memoir created for an age group usually neglected by Hollywood.

Jim Descend was an uncommon choice to teach. The film is a savory, sugary treat from launch to conclude. If it isn’t exactly high art, but a fun teen-girl romp that traffics in cute boys, hip outfits, and loads of cheesy (but fun) pop music. Throw in some light morals about friendship, fame, and trust, along with adorable teen crushes, and there’s something to recommend for fun family viewing.

And Lola volunteers to encourage, putting her life on the line, though she doesn’t realize that she is in wretchedness. She has twenty minutes to solve this life-and-death dispute. And she DOES it, while filmed like a rock video in flashes, running like a madwoman through Berlin to procure to the prize.

If you don’t like the outcome, the inevitable, the dim, fair wait a diminutive, the filmmaker, god that he is, can change all that for you. If you want a fairy godmother, he’s prepared to be one for you. Objective yell like an infant, as Lola does, and director Tom Tykwer will grant your wish. If you then don’t like that particular wave of his magic wand, well, wait another exiguous. But don’t notice too closely, or you will leer an accusation that actions DO have consequences.

Though filmed creatively and in burst-like flashes, the yarn is completely coherent and even has a good, or two, or three.

As to the film itself, it is better letterboxed to luxuriate in the cinematography. The subtitles are right, though the swears and other cross epithets are made a bit milder than actually they are in vernacular German–perhaps because they peek elegant stark when printed rather than spoken. This is a film that is worth seeing quite a few times to choose up the nuances and missed frames–you can’t blink for a second because you will miss something valuable.

Run Lola Rush is the type of frenzied arthouse characterize that fair doesn’t bag made here in North America. That’s really a shame because Speed Lola Accelerate is definitley one of the best movies of the year. From a cinematic point of opinion “Lola” is one of the most creative and energetic films that I have ever seen.

The position revolves around Lola, a woman who has twenty minutes to set her boyfriend’s life from German gangsters. To do this she must miraculously derive 100,000 Marks.

The film is appropriately titled as Lola really does race for practically the entire film. When she does not succeed in saving her boyfriend the movie cuts aid to the opening sequence and the film plays out yet again in an entirely different fashion. The central belief is that microscopic variations in behaviour can change the entire outcome of a place. This thought was also explored in “Sliding Doors”, unfortunately, with far more mixed results.

Eventually the cycle repeats itself three times over the movies one hour twenty little conceal time. Bustle Lola Rush is fair bubbling with creative ideas and really is a comely glide. The action never really lets up (except in a brief bed scene) and is filmed in the kind of frenetic, crazy style that MTV would be proud of. Lola is also extremely comic in many parts especially when the film briefly delves into the future’s of various itsy-bitsy characters.

This is a perfect exiguous film that stands up to repeated viewings. It is bright, enthralling and is something that is completely modern. Hollywood movies rarely have those three qualities, this German one does.

Another review here seems to have been posted to the wrong page. This battery is made by Lenovo, sold by Amazon, and has the full (5.2Ah) capacity. I just received mine.

Not recommended
The product pictured shows a Lenovo X60/X60s extended battery, while the product being sold by BrtilliantStore is a generic non-branded battery.

Original Lenovo X60/X60s extended battery has a capacity of 5200 mAh, this battery is only 4400 mAh.

This battery doesn’t fit well into the laptop, one of the locking mechanisms doesn’t easily latch so the battery may accidentally fall-out during use. Additionally, it sticks out further than Lenovo extended battery making the use of the docking station difficult.

Better than expected
When I saw the order for this battery was not directly from Amazon, I was concerned. To my surprise the battery arrived a day earlier than expected and the battery was just as I had expected. I saved $50 and 7 weeks of waiting by ordering this through Amazon instead of directly through Lenovo.

Lee Strobel has done the Christian community-and indeed, the world, a service with this DVD. I was extremely impressed with both the teach and the production values. The video is a substantial introduction to Christian apologetics both for the ordinary “man or woman in the pew” and the “ordinary skeptic.”

To claims that the film is biased, of course it is. It’s an apologetic documentary after all. But it is nevertheless a fairly balanced overview, or summary, of the evidence for the truth claims of the NT. This documentary isn’t any more biased than the TV documentaries that usually air on the cable channels (A&E, THC, DSV, TLC, etc.) at Christmas and Easter which are typically aimed at a current audience and biased against the truth claims of the NT and which usually cater to the sensational and bizarre. Strobel’s DVD should support as a nice counterpoint to all the accepted sensationalist documentaries out there. Apt, the film doesn’t gain too technical, however perhaps it really doesn’t need to? Anyone fervent in delving deeper can check out the books listed in the bibliography, many of them written by the very scholars interviewed in the film.

Also intelligent are the special features video interviews with many of the scholars interviewed in the film giving personal testimonials about how their work as scholars has increased their faith.

This DVD is technically better than most Christian multimedia products trying to expose that Christ is the Son of God. It does not suffer from the quality of most subculture Christian DVDs; however, this DVD is more about Lee’s conversion tale than it is an in-depth examination of the evidence. While I understand the need to provide a rapid “reasons to occupy” for the general public, it would have been nice if this DVD had a exact strong 2-3 hour featurette examining the evidence section by portion.

As a conversion chronicle, this DVD works well enough. Both Lee and his wife are featured and many different scholars appear for rapidly explanations on distinct topics that deal with the resurrection and reliability of the Gospels, etc. There are philosophers William Lane Craig and J.P. Moreland as well as recognized N.T scholars Craig Blomberg and world eminent N.T. Wright who do appearances arguing or providing evidence on positive subjects. All in all, this is a obedient DVD for hastily information about positive topics regarding Christianity, but by not delving deeper into the material, it could have the rather opposite intent by insulting either Christians who are looking for a resource to wait on them “provide an respond” or to those seeking for answers.

True Lies is a movie about an U. S. notice (played by Arnold Swarzennegger) who tries to support his legal occupation a secret from his wife( played by Jamie Lee Curtis, the daughter of Tony Curtis, and her mother was Janet Leigh.

Anyhow this movie has some hilarious moments, I especially like the customary car salesman, who reminds me of an ex-friend.

Highly recommended for fans of Arnold Swarzennegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. I didn’t realize she could play a sexy role.

his best buddy, Tom Arnold from “Roseanne” fame, is the perfect amusing foil. It’s really Tom that makes this act/adv stand out from the crowd. The dialogue is snappy, silly, and Tom takes it to the limit. Also up for a laugh is Bill Paxton, another Cameron regular (Aliens), who plays a seedy used-car salesman posing as a peer in order to seduce women. He really goes all the diagram, completely unafraid of playing a apt idiot!

It’s unprejudiced so sizable to peep an act/adv with expansive action that isn’t little to the usual, off-hand quips from stoneyfaced he-men. This movie is one of my favorites because it’s a astronomical popcorn movie that delivers on many levels. It’s not honest an excuse to blow things up and no one takes themselves too seriously. Everyone obviously had a gigantic time making this film and it shows. I hope they gain the sequel soon.

Sturdy and Flexible
I purchased this mount because I wanted the flexibility to position my new flat panel away from the wall at different angles and distances. I had seen a couple of others but was wary of the way they attached to the wall with just a single vertical bar. This one comes with a boilerplate quality rectangular plate that mounts with 4 large screws. There are plenty of screw holes to allow for variations in stud spacing. It is highly recommended that you have it professionally mounted, but since that can cost as much as the price of the mount itself, and I’m handy with stuff like this, I did it myself with a little help from two others. The biggest potential problem was mounting the wall plate level, because the the arm attaches to the hardware on the flat panel with just one screw and the slightest tilt could send the panel careening into the wall, especially if the arm is extended. You can tilt the mounting point where the TV is attached, but don’t think that this will compensate for poor leveling. So if you get pro installation, make sure that they get it absolutely level, even if it doesn’t look that way (your ceiling or floor may not be true level). If you mount it yourself, the biggest risk is dropping your TV or getting a hernia trying to hang it on the wall plate. Instead of mounting the TV with the arm attached (per the directions), consider mounting it with the arm attached to the wall plate instead. I followed the directions, and it was scary. Also, you may find the bolts provided for the TV hardware to be either too short or too long. That was my situation, so I sawed the ends off the long bolts rather than use the short ones.
The result overall is very good. The ability to bring the set a little closer to the viewer or have it against the wall helps to find the best viewing distance, which is tricky with a big screen. If you’re a neatnik, this also makes cleaning behind the panel easy. Overall I would give it a 5, but the balance of the TV could be better engineered, with some rachets or locking points to prevent the set from swinging one way or the other. The only controls provided are just tightening down screws, which don’t handle the weight well unless it is perfectly balanced. In practice, you may want to avoid extending the TV all the way from the wall for that reason. When I do extend it, I hold it in place for a moment and then take my hands off, seeing if it is going swing back into the wall. I suspect minor adjustments may be needed for a while to get the balance just right.

Heavy duty TV stand!!
Very nice unit for hanging a plasma TV on the wall to save space. We really like the way it swings out to allow TV to be watched at different angles. I’d say the package has just about anything you need to hang any plasma TV on the wall.

Very Well Engineered Mount
This is a very well thought out universal mount. This is my second Sanus mount. The first was for a small flat panel in the kitchen. I am VERY impressed with the workmanship, and material quality of their mounts.
The backplane that mounts on the wall works well with varying stud widths. If you take particular care to level the backplane exactingly up front, drill an accurately centered pilot hole, and get the lag bolts dead center of the studs into some good meat, everything will fall into place swimmingly afterward.
The arm assembly can me adjusted from side to side on the backplane to allow for some positioning when the studs are not centered where you need them. I was happily surprised by that as I was envisioning ripping off sheet rock and adding blocking to get the thing centerd in a tight spot.
Read all the installation instructions first (I’m a man, I can change, if I have to, I guess) and the install will go smoothly. The only problem I had was that the tapped mounting holes on the TV were slightly recessed so that if you were to tighten the mount’s brackets to the TV, it would deform the perforated metal back of the TV. The included spacers for mounting a TV with a curved back were too long, so rather than cut them down I stacked two flat washers between the bracket and the TV on each screw. That provided the required amount of relief.
I was able to hang the TV (42in.) by myself with no difficulty but it is a very expensive gamble. Get a second person and you won’t even break a sweat! I can’t emphasize enough the importance of reading and understanding the installtion instructions first, they are very clear, and will make your life much simpler. (Yes, I actually followed my own advice on this one!)

This is one time that I have to remove exception to the house reviewer. Yes, it’s an considerable share of American cinema. Yes, it’s one of Peckinpah’s best films. But the review overlooks so considerable.

This was the cinematic swan song for two more-than-noteworthy stars of quintessentially American movies. Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott both turn in pretty performances, as do the extras– notably Peckinpah regular (and perhaps the most under-appreciated American actor ever to grace the cloak) Warren Oates. And you don’t have to behold hasty for him, folks. He’s a mountainous fraction of the film.

In a diagram, Lunge the High Country was deconstructionist before Unforgiven ever hit the expansive screen– by thirty years or so. Like Eastwood’s hit, the film manages to state reverence for and contempt of the mythology of the American West at the same time. All the stock players are here, but never presented as stereotypes. Bankers, prostitutes, prospectors, missionaries, young bucks, lawmen, hucksters and outlaws. Anyone familiar with westerns knows the drill. Only this time it’s different.

Though recognized as a genius, Peckinpah is impartial as often derided as a misogynistic Hemingway-wannabe these days. What a shame. This film is no macho fantasy. Instead, it’s a recognize at the seemingly inevitable (and lamentable) decay of principles that results when high-minded people gain themselves in a site and a setting that doesn’t conform to their preconceptions of how things ought to be (Straw Dogs, anyone? ) — and what happens when they ‘return to normalcy’ in the wake of atrocity. When everything’s on the line, one might honest be faced with the sort of challenge to faith (in anything held dear) that we all horror confronting. Stand proper and lose it all, or sell out and acquire? Or is there an easy out? This would be a theme throughout the director’s work, but here it is ingeniously presented in an ostensibly straightforward horse opera that cleverly plays on viewer expectations. What appears to be another entry in a breezy, escapist genre ultimately reveals itself to be a meditation on impartial how difficult it is to ever hurry the travails of life. And how worthy it can cost to attain that same goal.

As remarkable as the film points an accusing finger at the western, there are many ways in which the director expresses his have sense of hope that such fairy-tale wishes could reach apt. Guess I’ll have to decide for the Police Academy box residence while I wait for this one to turn up on DVD…..

This is what they mean when they say, “they don’t manufacture them like that anymore.” With all the praise inexplicably heaped on a section of crap called “A History of Violence”, a ridiculous, mindless film, based on a barely literate cartoon strip, you often wonder exactly what has happened to American films - which old to be the envy of the world for their craftsmanship and acting. “Slump the High Country” was apparently considered a very satisfactory minute “B” movie in its first release - but time and care now reveals it to be an American classic. Two terrific actors, in their comely twilight, working with an upcoming director, team up for a beautifully crafted, gorgeously filmed and scored, Western about character and justice. TCM has been showing the widescreen version of this gem for a couple of years - and now here it is where it belongs - on DVD for every legal film fan to look. Forget Tarantino’s mindless violence. Forget the rapid cuts and lack of storytelling talent of practically every film director in the business honest now: this is how it is done, and the director of this film never did as well (he too lapsed into cheap “monotonous motion” violence and other inhuman traits as his possess film career lurched on) . Here we have a memoir told with depth and clarity - and HUMANITY. Scott and McCrea are two stout stars who know something about manhood, decency, wit, grace, and strength. Where are these kinds of films now? Where are the male actors who can inhabit these roles with some degree of class, grace, and strength? Why can’t ANYONE do a simple, positive, human Western, as it was once done, which often had so considerable to say about contemporary times (”High Noon,” as one example)? At least we have this and you can’t argue with it: a spare, glorious Western, with one of the broad climaxes in film history. A MUST!

outstanding quality for the price
Don’t waste your time looking for other brands. If you want the best quality and power for your car audio system, get ROCKFORD. I replaced my 600W sony 4 channel amplifier for this one, and let me tell you, there is no comparison. I connected 2 120 W sony speakers and bridged a 400 W Sony Subwoofer…the sound from the speaker is loud and clear (similar to what I was getting from the Sony amplifier)…But the sound that I’m getting from the subwoofer is just amazing - and its only halfway of the power (the whole car shakes when on)…I strongly recommend this product and wont never go back to brands like sony or pioneer for amplifiers
