Good balls

Outstanding, simply outstanding!!
LED’s are simply amazing and they have caused nothing short of a revolution in the lighting sector. Just go to any lighting store on the internet and browse some of the new LED lights and you will quickly understand what I mean by revolution. Some of the lights now available are just downright amazing. Lighting has never been this much fun. While LED lights for camping aren’t quite as exciting or revolutionary as some of the stuff being introduced in the home lines, its still worthy of excitement especially for people that are used to old school candle lanterns.

Black Diamond released 2 different versions for thier portable lantern line, the Apollo and the Orbit. While IMO the Apollo is definitely the better of the 2, the Orbit still has its advantages and I still highly recommend it. I actually own 3 of both models as I use them for emergency lighting in my house and not just for camping.

Overall the biggest difference between the 2 is the overall size and light output. The Orbit is roughly half the size of the Apollo and it only has a 1 watt light as opposed to the 3 watt light in the Apollo. The Orbit is actually perfect for 2 man tents or if your going solo in a 1 man tent. I have even used an orbit in a bivy sack for reading. If your going to be in a 3 person or 4 person tent then you definitely want to move up to the Apollo. Another big difference is that the Orbit doesn’t have any legs. It has the same slide up frosted top, it just doesn’t have the 3 fold down legs that the Apollo has. Overall this effects the stability of the lantern the most. Its still very stable even without the legs, its just not as stable as the Apollo. If you usually hang your lanterns then this is a non issue.

The Orbit is a 1 watt light which can achieve a light intensity of 45 lumens. It weighs 4.5 ounces, sits at 4 inches closed and extends to 5.5″ when open. It takes 4 AAA batteries or you can purchase the NRG rechargeable battery kit which I HIGHLY recommend. Like the Apollo the Orbit has a dimmer switch to provide adjustable brightness which can really help save battery power when you don’t need the full brightness setting. It has a metal ring on the top which makes hanging it extremely easy. The design, with its frosted globe and dual reflectors, eliminates any sort of glare even when your looking right at it. Last but not least it comes in 2 different colors, white or black.

The Orbit actually just recently won a 2009 Backpacker Magazine’s Editor’s Choice Award! This is no small feat as backpacker magazine does extensive testing on equipment and only the best of the best gets a nomination yet alone actually winning an award. Backpacker magazine is one of the most respected outdoors magazines and the people that do the testing know what they are talking about. In all honesty this award by itself should tell you all you need to know about the quality of this light.

As I stated in my Apollo review, these lights can be used for more than just camping. I purchased 3 of the Apollo and 3 of the Orbit lights to use as emergency lighting in our house. We usually lose power in our house at least 2-3 times a year, usually due to storms knocking out the power. These lanterns are absolutely perfect for such occasions and are much safer than candles. We use the orbits to light up our main hallways and use the Apollo’s for our main rooms and bedrooms. We have already had to use them twice for such occasions and they were vastly superior to what we have used in the past.

Bottom line - these are outstanding lights. They are designed extremely well, put out plenty of light, are lightweight and are easy to carry around. The optional rechargeable battery is a huge plus as I for one HATE wasting money on batteries. IMO, both the Apollo and the Orbit are the best camping lights on the market.

Black Diamond Orbit Lantern
The Orbit is a great step up in LED technology. I have the e-gear/Brunton LED lights and the difference is amazing.
The e-gear/Brunton light are harsh at eye level.
This bright, diffused, white adjustable light is perfect for a tent. Top clip is 2 piece so it will hook on any attic or loop.
It can be knocked off if rocked hard. (One man bivy is tight quarters)
Adjustable output can be dimmed so eyes can adjust to night time with moon light or a night light for children.
For a camp light use the Apollo version. It will light up a nice 20ft circle when suspended overhead and dark.
Couple it with a good headlamp like the Mammut Lucido X-Zoom (Like having a search light on one’s head) and leave
the gas lantern at home.

Lots of light for a small lamp!
I purchased this lamp for my fall camping trip to replace one that was 3 times the size & weight. I was amazed at the light output, far superior to my older lamp. It worked perfectly, was easy to hang in my 2 man dome tent and didn’t have the glare typical of other lamps. The compact size & weight make it ideal for backpacking. The only minor problem I found is that the on/off button can be hard to find by feel in the dark. Perhaps a raised surface or different texture on the button would solve that problem. Overall, it’s a great lamp and highly recommend it for camping/backpacking.

The next-best thing to a deep tissue massage!
I recently came across a book that suggested using Self Myofascial Release (SMR) foam rollers to help stretch and reduce muscle ache/tension. I tried out a foam roller and used it for about half an hour going over my whole body, inch by inch. Wow! Amazing!

The Good: Results are great, as it works deep into your muscles. Easy to use on your own. Can reach most parts of your body without too much effort.

The Bad: Users have to “work” at rolling over the item, a procedure that may discourage some. Item firmness determines how deeply it can work into you. Your better off getting the largest roller available (currently 6″ x 36″). I tried the 6″ x 18″ size, and while it worked adequately-I found myself wanting the roller to cover just a little more area.

The Verdict: Though you definately have to put a little work into moving your body over the roller, the results are spectacular. You may determine how much the roller works into the tissue by controlling how much body weight you put on it. I just can’t recommend this item enough… though choose your firmness wisely.

Great for rehab, workouts
The foam is supposed to be hard; it’s very good at relieving tension in your back muscles when you roll on it. It’s already done wonders for the knots in my back. Also, if you’re into pilates, this works out great. I bought it mostly for my back pain. The sensation that you feel when you roll out on it is supposed to be uncomfortable and a little painful, but after using it daily, it will help your muscles in the end.

Good quality and quite versatile - also good for some yoga
I am very pleased with this roller. As a massage aid, which is what I bought it for, it’s great. It is also firm enough that I can use it for some balance exercises (which would be difficult if it were softer). Although some have complained that it is too hard for massage on some body spots, you can lessen the impact of the hardness by positioning/supporting your body properly. It also appears to be well made, so i would expect it to last for quite a while.

EDIT- two and a half years later- I am still using this thing and it has held up beautifully. In addition to the massage I do (back and ITB), I am now using it as a yoga bolster, and it’s working out great! This was a very good investment

Size too small!
I had looked up the sizing chart on this product and had purchased a large according to what I had found. The fins were way too small! Toes were pinched and were sticking out of the top. My recommendation is to order a larger size than the chart says.

Be aware that speedo’s flippers are 2 size too small compared to the standard shoe size.

Just what I was looking for !!
Wasn’t sure what size to get….I wear a size 12 mens shoe, so it appeared the “XXL” would do the trick. PERFECT. Shipping by Amazon was immediate and I had the fins in about 2 days (they were shipped from an adjoining state). Oh, and of course, they work just peachey too.

What I wanted
I bought these to increase the height of the F1011W Original Health Club Step I’d purchased earlier and they work fine. Difference in color was not an issue for me.

Exactly what I Expected to get
I had seen a stepper on fit tv that offered 3 blocks of height plus the height of the stepper so I went online and found them. They worked and looked exactly like the violet blocks that came with my original club step.

DON`T GO INTO THE LIGHT!!!
This seems like a well built lantern and the fact it is rechargable drew me to it. I am taking it back, however, because sadly enough ut is too bright! It will honestly blind you if you even happen to look into it, even on the low setting. LED is great and all, but something about the mirrored effect just makes the light too bright. Well, just dont look at it… simple enough, but I shouldnt have too worry about being blinded when playing cards on a picnic table at night. if this will be hanging at the top of your tent for light, probably wont be a problem, but if its going to be anywhere near eye level, id consider getting the rechargable fluorscent version… probably not as blinding. Honestly, this is like looking directly at a filament. If it were glazed somewhat, this could be a great light. Be forewarned.

I like that it’s rechargeable (no wasting batteries). It comes with 2 chargers (wall and car) and they fit in a compartment in the bottom. It is even cuter and more stylish in person than the picture. The light is good, and has 3 settings (high, medium and low). I like the LED… it should be energy-efficient and last a long time. The light beam is white in color… I think it’s worth the price. I am very happy with this purchase!

Castro’s are the best
Globe Castro’s are the most comfortable, nice looking men’s shoes out there. These are the 6th pair I’ve purchased for family and they all love them.

1 out of 6 ain’t bad…
I have purchased at least 5 other pairs of Globe Castros over the last few years. I’ve never had a problem with ANY pair until now. This pair started coming unstitched at the seam after not even a weeks wear. Amazon was extremely quick to replace them and I will continue to buy them despite this one bad-ish experience. Overall, they are very comfy and versatile and feel like I’m wearing slippers all day!!

Tweed Castros
The tweed castros are very cool. Fidel would be proud. The box was pretty happenin too, designed to look like a cigar box. Sizing on these shoes i find to be very accurate. Well made, comfortable, seem to be durable.

Good Product
I rarely write reviews, but when I was researching this product (actualy the BearPaw 410 10″ Eva Boots, identical to these minus the extra two inches) the reviews are what helped me make my decision. I thought I’d give others an extra insight and perspective.

I was actually planning to buy the 10″ boots, but saw that the 12″ boots were the exact same price. So I thought, hey.. I’ll get more bang for my buck (in this case, 2 inches!) and bought the 12″ instead.

First, I want to comment on the sizing. I followed Amazon’s general shoe size chart for women’s and even measured one of my shoes that fit me perfectly. My shoe sizes sometimes vary, but I busted out a ruler to be exact. I was a size 9 according to the chart. The shoes I was measuring from was also a 9. BearPaw and many reviewers suggested getting one size up from your regular show size so I ordered a size 10. In my case, that didn’t work well for me.

Overall, these boots are great material and quality. I really don’t have any bad things to say about them. They’re extremely comfy… they feel like house slippers and are way cheaper than Uggs! So the only issue I have with them is more of a personal issue.

You see, I’ve got big calves. They aren’t fat… but really solid… full of muscle. Whenever I try to do cardio, the only area that seems to get toned is my calves. Such a curse. (BTW, I measure at 17″ all the way around my mid-calf). Anyhow, these boots were very tight at the edge. It was like a really tight rubberband around my calf an I’d normally deal with stuff like that, but it was very uncomfortable. On the other hand, the shoes were too big for my feet by at least an inch to an inch and a half.

It’s kind of awkward to wear, but I think I’ll deal with these issues. I can always wear thicker socks, so it’s better slightly too big than slightly too small. I’m actually folding down the extra “2 inches” which makes the boots less uncomfortable, but I’m hoping that the material will stretch over time to accomodate my enlarged calf and possible my jeans. It’s also too tight to squeeze jeans into.

If the boot fit perfectly, I’d totally give it 5 stars. It may be a little unfair to dock it a star since everyone’s shoe size and calf size can vary widely, but I think the company should offer boots with an extended calf (most other brands do for boots). This way, girls with big calves or girls who want to tuck in their jeans (or both!) have the room to do so.

Great Boot! But, Order One Size Smaller
These are very warm, well made boots, especially for the (sale) price. Shipping was fast too. My only complaint would be that the description said to order in your normal shoe size, but be warned– these boots run HUGE! I always wear a women’s size 9 so that’s what I ordered. They were a comfortable fit when I first received them in January. Now, in March, since the shearling has packed down, they are an absolute sloppy fit. So much so, I can only use them as slippers. I’m disappointed that I can’t wear them outside on outings, so I’ll order a size 8 the next time around. I should have returned them for a smaller size, but by the time I knew it, I felt it was too late, since I’d already been wearing them for a few weeks.

I also did a lot of reseach on these boots, and I am happy to say I LOVE THESE BOOTS! I bought the 12″ and they are perfect. I can see if you have a bigger calf to get the 10″. My calf measures 13 1/2″ and the boots are perfect especially with skinny jeans and work with regular jeans too. I’ve had the boots for a couple of weeks and the shaft of the boot is loosening up a bit which makes the fit even better. I contacted Bearpaw Boots about the fit and they said “order your normal whole size. Half sizes then go up one” I wear a size 9 and they at first felt kinda snug but after a few wears the shearling inside will begin to conform to your foot and then the boots will fit perfect…they are sooooo comfortable!!! In fact, it seems every time I put them on, they are more comfortable then the last time! I got these in the sand color …and sprayed them with a rain and stain for suede I found at payless. I found out that Scotch Gaurd could change the color so I wanted to avoid that. I’ve already told my husband I need a black pair now. If I could get away with wearing them everyday at work I would, but people might think I’m kinda strange…So if I haven’t worn them to work, then they are the first thing I put on as soon as I get home! I love these boots! Great product and Great price.

Be prepared to work :-O
If you have seen my other Cathe reviews, you’ll know that I think she is fantastic and makes you work hard, yet she’s motivating and keeps it interesting. In this dvd, you will work your trouble spots very hard and it is tough (but well worth pushing through). The results can be found if you do the workout often.
There is a wide spectrum of exercises here. Every possible movement is done (like your squats and lunges etc) and you will be feeling it in no time. You start with standing workout that work the glutes and then classic floor moves like side leg lifts and inner thigh work. You WILL fatigue your muscles (in a good way). Following all of this, there is intense ab work and she uses hand weights and ankle weights to up the ante.
The other thing you should know, is that there is a lot of equipment needed (one reason I dropped a star in the rating). You need different amounts of weights, barbell, stability ball, resistance bands and a high step platform. Personally for me, if I need this much equipment, I’d rather go to the gym. Cathe is one tough trainer, but she will give you results. After doing this workout for the first time, I didn’t think I’d be able to make it out of bed the next morning. It was a good sore, so you know you’ve worked out well. I really recommend this, but not if you haven’t used your glute or ab muscles in some time.

Hard work!!!
Cathe Friedrich is my absolute favorite for working out. This workout is hard — you feel it right away. It is put together very well, in that you can select the exercises yourself or just hit ‘play’ and do the entire video. Her personality is great — she is very motivating, without being “chatty.” I discovered Cathe by watching FitTV, and now own many of her DVDs. I just purchased this one as my problem areas are lower body. You will need various equipment, though: a high step, dumbells, barbell, stretch band, and stability ball. Since I have been exercising to Cathe, I have eventually purchased all equipment and use them all regularly. I highly recommend this DVD and any of the Cathe Friedrich items!!!

Real focuses on the Butt and Gut
WOW what a workout.. i have a lot of Cathe’s workouts but this one really works the Butts and Guts.. i had to do this dvd 2x to really feel the burn.. the first time i was not concentrating on the target areas but when i did the next time, i couldnt walk right for 2 days.. this is truly an excellent dvd.. you will WORK your butt area and you will get that six pack, just eat clean for better results.. Quick Cheap Solution
If you are looking for a bed you can take with you camping in the summer and to relatives homes any time of the year, this bed works fairly well for short term use and is a quick and cheap solution. I find the Coleman beds last quite a long time, even though you will eventually find yourself on the floor due to the many problems that can occur with placing an airbed on the floor. For one, sharp objects will easily puncture the bed and this includes playful cats tossing about toys near the bed or like my cat loves to do, pushing a cat toy under the bed and retrieving it again.

I’ve lost two beds this way, but this can be solved by placing a thick mattress cover over the bed. Sharp objects under the carpet may also puncture the bed although this bed has an exclusive PVC and the airtight system is guaranteed not to leak. I find that we deflate this bed in the morning and inflate it again at night, so this isn’t really a problem, although after two days, you may notice air has leaked out a little bit more than you expect.

The comfortsmart coil system helps the bed to conform to your body for better support, which means you might like this bed better than a regular mattress. In my short lifetime I’ve purchased quite a few of these beds and more expensive doesn’t mean more comfortable. To be honest, this is more comfortable than the Aero beds with the pillow top.

If the bed looses air, you might want to take a look at the inflation instructions where it shows the internal seal and the internal yellow post and how you can completely seal the valve in a two-step process.

“Air temperature and weather do affect the air pressure in inflatable products. In cold weather your airbed will lose some pressure due to the fact that the air will contract.”

So, to avoid this happening, we use a heating blanket on the bed.

One thing I will say about Coleman, they stand by
their warranty. With Aero, I found it difficult
to even return a bed or to find a return address
at their site.

Easy on Air and Wallet
Bought this for friends staying the night. Bought it from Target, on sale, was ~20$ and I bought a Greatland electric airpump ~18$ (many other pumps require charging 12 hrs before use, watch out for this! Also, this pump has 3 adjustable nozzles, so it worked with Coleman bed just fine).

This bed was very comfortable and didn’t leak. It is suede-flocked, but I put an extra fowm pad on top and a mattress pad over that. It comes with an attached wrap/holder for the deflated mattress. The air intake valve is a neat design, lets you stop airflow out before removing the pump, so air doesn’t whoosh out when you’re done pumping. ((Greatland basic line beds, unlike this Coleman, have an extra mouth-nozzle because they don’t have this airstop valve. So this bed required no extra hassle with mouth-blowing extra air in because of poor engineering!)

I made a brief foray into air mattress quality websites and reviews before buying this, and realized that high quality and height and auto-deflate etc only really mattered if I was going to sleep on this bed all the time. (I’m not, but these are things to consider if you are!!) Just from previous camping/overnight general use, I’ve found that the biggest difference in comfort is in having something warm on top of the mattress (thick mattress pad or foam layer underneath), so I did that and the sleepers said it was great.

Not sure how long it will last, but at ~20$ it was cheap and did it’s job nicely. Plus, I got the funky brown/tan color which was fittingly retro for an airbed in the living room set-up…

I have used this bed a few times visiting in-laws as well as camping and have found it very reliable and comfortable. Just make sure you inflate it all the way.
