For many of you who saw Lost Highway, the meaning and interpretation of the film has eluded you. If you are anything like me, you spent hours reviewing the movie, thumb on the cease button, notebook in lap! The beauty of the film truly lies in it’s mystery. It is a work of art, and as with any artistic expression, the allotment is left initiate for interpretation by all. Each persons idea or conclusion neither being correct or contemptible. My unusual ideas included comparing Renee Madison/Alice Wakefield (Patricia Arquette) to a new day Eve, working with the devil/mystery man (Robert Blake) as she lured the men in the movie into sin. My other major theory was that the main characters in the movie at one point sold their souls to the devil, and he held total control over their fate, drawing them into his den and forcing them to do his dirty work, i.e. porn, destroy, etc.

Well, my interpretations were all well and edifying, but I was eager in what was going through the mind of David Lynch and Barry Gifford when they wrote the movie. I did a petite research, and this is what I found…

Night People

The plan for this movie came to David Lynch while reading a book by Barry Gifford called Night People. In the book, Barry uses the term “lost highway” and those words sparked an notion in David’s head. From this early point, David knew he wanted to do a movie about the unknown. He contacted Barry, and they status out to write the movie.

Murder

If any of you are wondering if Fred actually killed Renee, the retort is yes. Fred lived in constant anxiety of loosing Renee, constant anxiety that she was cheating on him, and most importantly, constant apprehension of her past. He loved Renee, but at the same time hated her. Whenever he saw her, he saw her past. Sex with Renee was a torturous reminder of her experience in porn, making it impossible for him to even effect. Eventually, he fair snapped. If you study the movie again, stay it at the point where he watches the final video tape, and journey slowly over the piece where we glimpse Renee’s body. You will contemplate what kind of enrage and rage exploded inside Fred when he killed her. Her torso is ripped apart, her upper and lower body are completely separated and her hand is reduce off and lying on the bed. Continue to scoot slowly and you will scrutinize Fred observe directly into the camera with a piercing, maniacal notice.

Psychogenic Fugue

Psychogenic fugue is an existing mental condition in which the subject, wanting to rush reality, creates a novel reality inside their head. The person will execute unusual friends, a novel job, a unusual home, everything. Handsome grand the entire movie takes plot within Fred’s head. When the movie opens, Fred has already killed Renee and he starts creating an alternate reality. He infuses his absorb reality with microscopic portions of the truth, so some of what we watch is actually based on fact, but the majority is what Fred is creating inside his acquire head. A very essential line in the movie is when Fred and Renee are explaining to the police why they don’t bear a video camera. Fred says he doesn’t like them, that he “would rather remember things his contrivance, not necessarily the arrangement they happened”

When Fred is imprisoned, his mental illness kicks into high gear. He is on death row, and any hope of escaping his nightmare (his genuine life) is lost. He is stuck in this cell until his death. His only arrangement out is to completely dash to a recent reality. This is when he essentially snaps and in his enjoy mind, he takes on a recent identity, Pete. The rest of the movie is him trying to live a life he finds more beautiful. He is a young, good-looking guy, who has no exertion getting any woman he wants. Then he meets Alice (a now blonde Patricia Arquette), his alternate version of Renee.

But, Fred is so sick, that even in the reality that he is creating, Alice becomes a product of his paranoia, eventually turning on him, declaring “you will never have me” while they are having sex and then getting up and walking away. This is the point in the movie, in the desert, when Fred decides to abandon this alternate reality and he reappears and Pete disappears.

The last scene of the movie is Fred being chased by the police down the highway as he begins to transform again, impartial like in the prison cell. This reality didn’t quite work out the plot he wanted it to, and now he is out there somewhere, living a recent life again. Let’s hope this one worked out for him! 

Robert Blake

The mystery man is truly the most challenging aspect of this movie. In my notion, he is Fred’s conception of the devil. He has supernatural powers and he feeds off the sins of mortals. The scene at the party is one of the creepiest movie scenes I’ve seen, yet at the same time it is hilarious. The design the music and party noise proceed when the mystery man and Fred sail up to each other created a bizarre and surreal exchange. Another tremendous scene of the movie is when Mr. Eddy and the mystery man call Pete together. “Yeah Pete, I impartial wanted to jump succor on and let you know I’m satisfied your ok!” Click. That was colossal. And of course, I can’t talk about the grand scenes in the movie without mentioning the “tailgating” scene. Robert Loggia (Mr. Eddy) is a master.

Conclusion

Keeping in mind David’s consume of psychogenic fugue as the main characters mental illness, the movie is actually very simple. Watching the movie again, keeping this all in mind, is an entirely unusual experience. The first several times I watched it I was intrigued by the puzzle. Now, watching the movie, I can relax, finish trying to figure out how everything relates to everything else, and perceive what is actually happening. I suggest, if you are a fan of the movie and haven’t seen it in a while, or if you learned some current things here, then go attend and glimpse it again. You will realize more than ever that David Lynch is incandescent, a master of the avant-garde.

The movie itself is unbelievable. Lost Highway is a beautifully designed film executed with skill in every site. Contemplate it. However, the Canadian DVD release is probably the worst DVD I have ever seen. For starters it is in 4:3 ration instead of widescreen 16:9. Secondly, the film transfer is abominable. It almost looks worse than VHS. Truly a bad narrate. Sound is honest graceful although nothing special. Think for yourself, but I consider you would be better off waiting for an American release (hopefully with widescreen and significantly better characterize quality) .

Well, being the first to review the entire series I will try to provide you with as considerable details as possible without giving too grand away.

Melody of Oblivion is an anime that belongs to the category of fantasy/action/romance series. So what is it all about: In the 20 th century a sizable war occurred in which humans fought against monsters. To create the long epic short humans lost the war titanic time. Since then, time past and humans forgot what really happened and continue to live in a world that is the one that we are today (21 st century) . The monsters, who can choose human beget, rule the world and humans have to enlighten after a specific time period children as sacrifices to them - basically monsters eat humans. What is more, the monsters have names that are found in old Greek mythology. Additionally, if a human sees a monster in its legal manufacture than he or she turns into a stone, a wood puppet etc. Humans that are something like the monster’s minions rule the world and are known as Monster Union. These agents will do anything so as to come by on the top-notch side of their masters even sacrificing their bear brothers and sisters willingly. Imagine them like a fanatic group of people. Well, this is the dumb side of the coin and therefore, let us turn now towards the entertaining side of things.

Among humans arises a group of people who can extinguish the monsters, known as Meros Warriors. These people have something like supernatural powers and in order to fight the monsters they spend bows and arrows with various techniques; in addition even if they notice at a monster’s legal develop they are not affected by it. On top of that they are riding tidy worthy bikes (Ivermachines) that are able to turn into human obtain with well-kept powers, can wing, have their bear will etc.

Finally, the warriors are able to hear the so called Melody of Oblivion which is resembled by a young girl (I will not win so noteworthy into detail about this or basically I will give the area away) .

This is by and spacious the setting.

The chronicle starts with the young main protagonist Bocca who turns into a Meros Warrior and the young female protagonist Sayoko who was given as a sacrifice by her parents but was saved by another warrior called Kurofune. Bocca starts his plod with the hope to understand what he has to do and what makes someone a Meros Warrior, to do so he leaves everything slow, his family, his girlfriend and his friends. Sayoko believes that she is in treasure with Kurofune, therefore, is traveling together with Bocca so as to eye him again. But afterwards she realizes that she is truly in esteem with Bocca - and he does realize that he is in worship with her - and a treasure narrative evolves in the midst of battle. During their sprint they meet other Meros Warriors like Toune or Coco who will fight alongside them plus the professor Saburou (the creator of the Ivermachines) . All these battles and romances that will evolve will lead to a climax of battles in set and parallel dimensions.

I will conclude here as far as the storyline concerns otherwise I will inaugurate giving spoilers away.

So, to the next certain question: What makes this series so special? To open with, it is its character development but also how the relationship between Bocca and Sayoko is portrayed, from starting as objective being travelers to a romantic relationship in which they would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives in order to protect the other one. Than it is its strong and solid place with many twists in it. Moreover, it is action packed and the creators knew how to retain the balance of the account and character development and the hard core action. Furthermore, it is its soundtrack; the music that accompanies the series varies from instrumental, to opera and to pop rock; but these people knew how to do it!

Now to the other details:

The animation is edifying, to find a better recount it is something in-between of Lodoss and Cowboy Bebop.

The convey acting is very professional done so are the subs (but I saw the Japanese version therefore, I have no understanding about the dubs) .

The music is unbiased astronomical. The opening is a pop/rock version but one of the best I have heard so far in an anime. The ending is a ballad song (usually it is something typical for animes to raze with a ballad) .

To execute, this series is not your typical fantasy anime, it has a solid state with twists, big character development, is action packed and it will perform you care about its characters. Therefore, if you can afford the money I do highly recommend this anime to anyone!!!

I got this series box site around the same time as the Star Ocean EX Box place, and while I enjoyed the later series this one was so confusing on both it’s attempted storyline and basic episodes it fair became to annoying to truly like. The short anecdote is that sometime in humanities future after supposedly losing a war against monsters the mystical Melos warriors have returned to fight the monsters again, and the series tries to focus on mostly the character of Bocca a young high-school boy recently made a melos warrior and Sayako a young woman rogue with a questionable past. The series animation is noble and the music to the series is also very decent but sadly that’s all you’re going to catch with this series. The one major complaint is that an almost every episode the scenes seem so chaotic and frightened it’s hard to express what’s really going on, a slight hint there’s a scene where Bocca is talking to someone about one of the monsters in the city he’s in and unbiased the next shot he’s fighting said monster with no explanation of how he found it or when they supposedly meet up to launch their fight. The ending leaves a lot to be desired too if you like the more conception or at least decent ending don’t inquire that here, the ending is questionable and somewhat expected with this series but level-headed annoying too though. The fan service is many in this series as well I found it amazingly laughable how these supposed young girls were so well endowed it was ridiculous and like one reviewer said there are some female references some female viewers will regain offense at, the thunder cast for the Japanese actors did large unfortunately the English content cast doesn’t rep a high a tag. So if Funimation decides to release this situation again I’d verbalize people to first check some episodes out online first because you might fair obtain duped like I did if you only contemplate the first episode and mediate it’s going to be a more better series than it really is…

“The Shop on Main Street” is one of the five best movies I have ever seen. This masterpiece from Czechoslovakia is one of the most humanistic films of all time, telling the narrative account of the Nazi holocaust through two beautifully developed characters. This incredible film relies on understatement to legend an event that, when visualized fully, often becomes too unbearable to view. Instead, the filmmakers concentrate on the conflict that develops when a well-meaning but apprehensive carpenter must protect an elderly Jewish shopkeeper from persecution. This ingeniously worked out site leads to a final half hour that is, perhaps, the most intensely dramatic and emotionally wrenching sequence in film history. The performances of Josef Kroner and Ida Kaminska are without explore and the eerie and haunting musical accept lingers with the viewer long after this mammoth film has ended. This film is the definition of gargantuan cinematic art!

This movie rightfuly deserves all the praise and accolades given. The acting, camera work and editing are kindly and sadly, it’s also historicaly upright.

Aside from the title sequence the spoken language is all Slovak and not Czech or any other construct of convoluted Czech-Slovak dialect. Considering most Czechs were expelled from Slovakia during this period, it would be inconceivable for the director to have the actors mutter Czech –the domestic audience would have never tolerated that. The english subtitles, however, gain many errors and poorly translated passages which detract from fully view the humour, sarcasm and even some events. There is some profanity, which is also translated into more tempered english terms.

Here a two examples:

In the subtitles, Tono’s friend and neighbour Piti is refered to as Piti Batchi, which should be ‘baci’, the Hungarian word for ‘uncle’, that many south eastern Slovaks consume as a term of endearment and respect. In one scene Tono calls Imro Kuchar — Kuchar baci.

The term Pan, which translates into Mr. –has a double meaning. Historically, it meant someone of nobility, a baron or a land holder. On two occasions Tono is refered to as “pan Brtko” but in a very sarcastic arrangement. Once by Katz, the barber, while packing and later by the Hlinka Guard Luetenant Martin in the pub. I believe Tono understands the ridicule, but doesn’t understand why yet.

The DVD should have included some historical background, as I bear many viewers will not be familiar with the history of the state during this period. This may confuse some viewers who may not understand the many references or the regalia displayed in the film.

The movie is also a metaphor for life under Stalinism. Although it takes status during WWII, the jews can easily be replaced by non communists and the Hlinka Guards by the Stalinist era communists who persecuted all who stepped over the official party line. Even an innocent joke, deemed injurious, could carry a 5yr sentence. It was not curious for children to narrate their parents to the authorities for saying or doing something against the communist dogma tought to them in school. This is clearly evident in the barbershop scene with the mad Piti baci and later when Tono realises that he was “space up” by his beget brother-in-law. Marcus Kolkotsky, the Hlinka Guard commander and Tono’s brother-in-law knows Tono is a feeble man, he says as grand during the drinking party during which he calls Tono a coward when Tono can’t acquire down his liquor. He also made it very definite as to what would happen to anyone harbouring or aiding the jews. Only Kolkotsky could have made definite Mrs. Lautmann’s ‘call-up” card was never issued or delivered, only he knew the inner turmoil this would compose within Tono and only he knew that no matter what happened, he had him.

The title of this DVD is not altogether correct. If the writers had been involved in choosing a title which had veracity, the DVD would have been called “Athenians, Crucible of Civilization.” For it is the Athenians, not the Greeks in general, which this documentary focuses on. Lacedamon, the other Superpower in Greece, as well as minor city states such as Corinth and Attica, are only mentioned in passing. Even then, the purpose for speaking of these places is almost always unbiased to point out how they related to Athens.

Now, this is not necessarily a unpleasant thing. It is lawful that Athens was a watershed for western culture with its impressive contributions to political ideology, art, literature, theatre, architecture, philosophy, science, polemic techniques and so mighty more. All of these above topics were shunned by the people of Sparta, and the rest of the city states in Greece paled in comparison, insofar as these fields are concerned, when compared to the grandeur of the ostentatious Athenians.

One space in which this preference for Athens is taken too far, however, is in the treatment of the Persian War. There were four major battles in this war; Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis & Plataea. Only Marathon and Salamis are renowned in this work; Thermopylae and Plataea are not cited at all. Apparently, the reason for this is that Marathon & Salamis were the two battles where the Athenians faced the Persians alone [at least for the most part; there were some allied ships sprinkled into the mix @ Salamis]. At Plataea they squared off against the Persians shoulder-to-shoulder with the Spartans and other Greeks. The Athenians were not eager @ Thermopylae at all. Persons who are unusual with Greek history would be likely to traipse away from this presentation thinking that there were only 2 major battles in the Persian War, and the Athenians deserve all the credit for saving Greece. That is a skewed plan of history, and as such, not a suitable thing.

The biggest oversight of the DVD resides in its chapter on the battle of Marathon. We are told that after his 140 mile jaunt to Sparta, the messenger Pheidippides’ plea for abet was refused by the Laconians. That is very, very, very misleading. The Lacedamons did NOT intentionally hang their Athenian brethren out to dry in the face of the Persian invasion of Marathon. Rather, it was due to religious protocal which prevented the Spartan army from setting out true away. Here is the passage in Herodotus which details the Lacedamons’ retort to Pheidippides:

“…the Spartans wished to befriend the Athenians, but were unable to give them any display succour, as they did not like to rupture their established law. It was then the ninth day of the first decade; and they could not march out of Sparta on the ninth, when the moon had not reached the beefy. So they waited for the tubby of the moon.” (Herodotus, “Histories,” Book VI [Erato], p. 342, trans: George Rawlinson)

When the Spartans did send their army, they arrived @ Marathon within an amazing 3 days. Unfortunately, by then, the fighting was already over & the Athenians had earned a delicate (not to mention extraordinary) victory. So, the Laconians congratulated the Athenians and headed home. The (mostly Ivy league) historians who set aside this documentary together should have known better than to omit these facts.

By now you’re probably thinking that I have nothing but unpleasant stuff to say about this work, lawful? Well, no, that’s not quite true; I’ve said all the negative things I am going to say (after all, I did give it 5 stars, legal? ) . Now it’s time to detail why I loved this DVD so noteworthy.

First of all, what the DVD does camouflage, it covers very well. The major epochs of Athens are detailed down thru the ages until the extinguish of the Peleponnesian War. The work goes over such diverse subjects as the role of women in customary Athens, the tactics and tools of warfare and the paradigms of pottery & architecture. Also, the lives of such tall men as Themosticles, Pericles and Socrates are scrutinized extensively. As an added bonus the narrarator is none other than the faded Liam Neeson, and the accept is nearly movie-soundtrack calibre.

Despite my criticisms, I would highly recommend this DVD to all persons who have any interest at all in Greek history and / or the foundations of western conception.

This movie is an incredibly well done and thoughtful explore at Greek history. It manages to include all the major events and individuals and do so in plot my high school students as well as college students were able to understand. It brings Veteran and Classical Greece into perspective and is an invaluable tool useful not honest in the classroom but for general exhaust. Spicy and educational not two words often set aside together.

Johnny is a fable and he won’t let ya forget it even in death. This DVD has the extra added bonus of *not* having notorious hanger-on Legs McNeil in it. And as for the last heartbreaking 15 minutes, heck, I cried. Gabba.

I am not a professional writer or critic but Ill unprejudiced station the facts of my opinions on this video . First,If you are well informed about the Ramones already there really isn’t any information you would not know anyways . If you have seen the other documentaries, interviews and perhaps read the books it is honest more of the same info .If you are strange with the Ramones than This video does relay the basic epic of the Ramones. The performances were descent except the audio in some performances could have been distinguished better.Soundchecks for the audio recording were probably rushed the night of the concert due to the posthaste travel stage changes. The highlight of the DVD is seeing Marky and CJ on stage together performing some Ramones classics for the first time in more than 8 years .I contemplate the ceramony for the Johnny Ramone statue was edited too considerable for the video or wasnt thurough but maybe for the better if there was a lot of down time that day .I rate this one a 3 out of 5 . At least there was footage recorded of these 2 events and if you are a Ramones collector than capture it .

This film by Tony Palmer was originally made thirty years ago but I had never seen it before. I have never been a spacious fan of Callas (although I do deem her recorded Tosca is the dramatically finest I know), and I came away from it jumpy at the tragedy of her life and with mammoth respect for how she handled her admittedly somewhat compromised gifts. This DVD consists of a chronological retelling of her life myth — one that surely has all the makings itself of an opera; why hasn’t anyone written one yet? — and includes amazing (mostly) black-and-white video clips of excerpts from performances by and interviews (as well as newsreel items) with Callas. The musical clips includes such things as ‘Un voce poco far’ (Barber of Seville), ‘Oh, s’io potessi’ (Pirata), ‘Nacqui all’affanno’ (Cenerentola), ‘Tacea la notte placida’ (Trovatore), ‘Tu che la vanità’ (Don Carlos), ‘Ah, non credea mirarti’ (Sonnambula), ‘O mio babbino caro’ (Gianni Schicchi), and a sparkling ‘Vissi d’arte’ (Tosca) . There are numerous interviews with such operatic luminaries who knew and worked with her — Giuseppe di Stefano, Franco Zeffirelli, Graziella Sciutti, Luchino Visconti, John Ardoin, Lord Harewood, John Copley, Elvira de Hidalgo (her teacher), Tito Gobbi, Carlo Maria Giulini as well as Arianna Stassinopoulos (her biographer) . Distinguished attention is paid to her marriage to Giovanni Battista Meneghini, and her long and heartbreaking affair with and abandonment by Aristotle Onassis.

Tony Palmer constructs a biography with an operatic anecdote arch, beginning with her birth in Manhattan and culminating in her death at age 53 in Paris, alone and nearly penniless. This is a splendid example of video biography and I came away with unusual respect for this tough but fragile artist who sacrificed all for her art. I recommend it strongly not only for fans of Callas but for opera lovers in general.

Scott Morrison

I am very gratified to have found this film, which provides the kind of definitive documentary of Maria Callas I had been hoping to obtain. Because it was filmed 30 years ago, it contains plenty of first-hand accounts of Callas and her life by people who knew her, worked with her, or were her friends.

The director repeatedly depicts her life as a struggle between “Maria, the woman” and “Callas, the artist”. I was tempted to dismiss this as a rather facile storytelling plot until behind in the film, when her secretary says that Callas herself passe this dissimilarity all the time. She would talk about her stage persona as “La Callas”, as if it were another person.

This “Maria vs. Callas” interpretation goes a long draw toward explaining the tragedy of her life — starting as a talented singer with an new yelp, but a very overweight woman who never experienced fair appreciate or passion. Her most successful period as an artist was before she left her husband, Giovanni Battista Meneghini, in 1959 after starting her affair with Aristotle Onassis. With Onassis, the woman blossomed but the artist suffered. Then after Onassis abandoned her suddenly in favor of Jacqueline Kennedy, the woman was devastated and the artist never performed again at her earlier peak levels.

The film is filled with insightful interview footage. I particularly appreciated the comments by her secretary and by Franco Zeffirelli. The film contains quite a bit of footage of Callas, but in general it is from later in her career and from concerts rather than operas.

The one exception is dinky footage from “Tosca” in 1964, which was filmed for the BBC. That is a shame, because what dwelling Callas apart was not her whine, but her acting and dramatic presence. Callas herself acknowledged that she sometimes wished to have the squawk of Renata Tebaldi instead. Unfortunately, there is not noteworthy film out there of Callas in performance.

But in the slay, this isn’t a performance compilation, but a documentary. All in all, it’s a huge one. Highly recommended!

If that name doesn’t mean anything to you…don’t feel unpleasant. Most are far more familiar with Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ than with his source material, notably the ‘Gesta Danorum’ (Book of the Danes) by Saxo Grammaticus. ‘Royal Deceit’ (released in Europe as ‘Prince of Jutland’) is based on the Gesta, in particular the sage of Amleth, a prince who discovers his uncle murdered his father for his crown and feigns madness to select revenge. Sound familiar? This version is far less complicated and more straightforward than Shakespeare’s, but that doesn’t obtain it inferior; rather, it’s a refreshingly simple examine at the Norse sage late the notorious play.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Royal Deceit! Click Here

That said, this film is definitely not for those who explain on sophisticated SFX, fast-paced action, and huge-scale battles. Combat is spare and usually represented by a couple of warriors on either side whacking each other with weak swords, but realistically this is more in keeping with the sixth century than most of the epic-style stuff found in big-budget pictures. The costumes are extremely simple shifts and tunics, mostly, and are quite apt for the period if not the most glorious things to seek at. (Ethel’s gown is a puny form-fitting for the period, but then…it’s Kate Beckinsale.) It was filmed on set in Denmark, and the scenery is really elegant.

The film is also much for the quality of the performances, which are kindly all around. Amazing talents Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne, and a young Christian Bale have most of the cloak time, but perceive for truly toothsome bit parts from the likes of Brian Cox, Kate Beckinsale, Tom Wilkinson, and - my favourite - Andy Serkis, better known as the man gradual “The Lord of the Rings’” Gollum.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Royal Deceit! Click Here

The action can be slow-paced for those accustomed to snappy, cut-and-run pictures, but the epic unfolds nicely. The narration in particular keeps well in the spirit of the Gesta, and there are some truly luscious scenes, particularly the scenes between Amleth and his mum Geruth and any time Brian Cox’s King Aethelwine of Britain is onscreen. (Nobody chews scenery better than Brian Cox.) One warning, though, is in order: since this was primarily a Danish-funded film, it has rather a lot of nudity in it by American standards, including some full-frontal shots. I didn’t win any of it offensive or out of spot, but some may.

Perhaps I am biased as a Mediaeval Studies major, but I found ‘Royal Deceit’ savory, for its absorb merit and as a nice alternative to all the Conan-style ‘Mediaeval’ pictures to be found elsewhere.

“Royal Deceit” (being based on the same sage as the Shakespeare play “Hamlet”) is a unbelievable movie despite it’s seemingly “unknown” site. I was VERY gay when I found out that it was going to be released in the U.S. (it was previously released in Europe under the title “Prince of Jutland”) and rushed to obtain it when it finally was. It displays astounding performances by Gabriel Byrne and Christian Bale, with a petite role by one of my favorites, Kate Beckinsale. With the exception of some [usual] Danish nudity, this movie is an all-around gracious film and I would definitely recommend it- like I always say, it takes “Hamlet” (one of my approved Shakespeare plays) and gives it a satisfied ending, making it impartial as suspenseful without the depressing ending!

One thing about “The Shield” is how well the indicate holds up on multiple viewings. It’s probably because of the attention to detail and the numerous legend arcs going on in any single episode. This continues to be the case in the 7th and final season of the note.

Season 7 finds Det. Vic Mackey, at the demolish of the line. Season 6 finished with Vic walking out on his last chance to support his job with the LAPD and making a deal with musty police Captain, now wannabe-Mayor Aciveda to purchase down the curved developer who has been bankrolling Aciveda’s political career. Meanwhile, Vic’s strike team is beginning to arrive apart at the seams, all of their ragged awful deeds are bubbling to the surface, and on top of that Vic’s ex-wife and daughter are scared of him. Vic’s a dirty cop with a perverted sense of justice. He thinks that if he can nail this curved developer AND prefer down the Armenian mob, it will build up for all the disagreeable things he has done.

The season plays out almost as a tragedy, and is the strongest season of the Shield since the mighty season 3. Watching these episodes again, I’m most struck by the relationship between Dutch and Capt. Wymms. Both actors do terrific work as seemingly the only people in the precinct who seem to care about Mackey’s abuses, and the quest to bring him down strains them to the breaking point.

The rest of the cast is solid as always. David Rees Snell, who plays Ronnie Gardocki on the strike team, shows a whole lot more here than he has in the past. But the valid standouts are Michael Chiklis as Mackey, and Walt Goggins as his longtime best friend/failed protege Shane Vendrell. Goggins is outstanding in the final episodes. He’s done rank things and he can barely live with himself, yet he continues on to try and befriend his wife and children.

The exhibit ends in about the only logical plot it could demolish. The last three episodes in particular are shattering. The writing, acting, and direction are all unbelievable, and “The Shield” goes out on a highly satisfying and emotional peak. A must believe.

The Shield’s final season is uncompromising as weak ghosts continue to complicate lives in farmington. Every moment of this season remains focused on the impending extinguish, and long time viewers are rewarded as the major location points approach to a head and pay off. This was not a quickie accelerate job to destroy the fable, every member of the cast moves with deliberate and in some cases desperate urgency.

The season is topped off by one of the most satsifying endings I have seen in a television expose. It’s a credit to the writers and actors fervent that I can pity a character I despised an episode earlier, or that a complex character like Vic Mackey can charm his draw through a horrific dialogue.

If you’ve been watching the Shield, don’t miss the final season.

First off I fair want to say the my son loves Pingu. The plight I have with this Cd is how poorly packaged this is…

No Menu

No Chapter selection.

It’s impossible to settle between eposodes and if you go past the last one it stops the DVD and you have to establish up with the lifeless FBI/Interpol warnings.

Bottom line: I’d wait until a better edition comes out or commence off with “Chillin’ with Pingu” (also sold on Amazon) which actually has a menu.

Note: We rented a DVD at Blockbuster called “Introducing Pengu” which was a better deal than this one (more episodes and an true menu) so hint hint Amazon - sell that version instead.

Shame on Hit Ebntertainment…

Being a penguin fanatic, my sister bought this DVD for me for Christmas. I wasn’t for determined what to consider of it originally, but came to really devour the DVD after watching it.

Pingu is a young penguin and he and everything in his world are created through claymation (the type of animation responsible for WALLACE AND GROMIT, GUMBY, CHICKEN Race) . The stories on the DVD involve Pingu and his friends and family as they go about the daily tasks of their lives. Unlike most claymation shows, there is no literal dialogue: the creatures all articulate a type of mumbling that is called Pengeese. There are six episodes on the DVD.

“Pingu Goes Fishing”–in this episode Pingu has his first encounter with a young seal named Robbie who becomes his best friend.

“Pingu Helps to Inform the Mail”–in this episode Pingu helps his father convey the mail in their itsy-bitsy village.

“Pingu Plays Fish Tennis”–in this episode Pingu and Robbie are bored and raze up playing a game of fish tennis.

“Pingu Gets a Bike”–in this episode Pingu’s father runs over Pinga’s (Pingu’s puny sister) bike. She cries and cries and cries until Pingu gives her his bike. Gracious lesson in sharing.

“Pingu at the Nursery”–Pingu takes Pinga to school at the nursery.

“Pingu and the Organ Grinder”–the bad Organ Grinder who lives on the outskirts of town is having a difficult time making a living. No one pays attention to him or his music. Pingu loves his music and decides to wait on the Organ Grinder.

Overall, I found this DVD to be highly entertaing. The whole DVD is a slight over 30 minutes and can be easily watched in one setting. My accepted episode was “Pingu and the Organ Grinder”; I found it to be touching and reminded me of how worthy I savor my grandparents. This is a gargantuan DVD to glance with younger children and makes an generous gift for any penguin or claymation fans.
