Amazing value and quality5
After seeing a glowing review of the new Image S4 headphones on Cnet, I had to dive in and purchase the day of release from Amazon. I have Bose In-ear headphones and these just flat out blow those away. At $75.00 I cannot imagine that anything can compare to this sound quality. The sound is incredibly well balanced and the fit and comfort is perfect.

Positives:
1) Price/Sound Quality Ratio. Great full sound with excellent bass, but not too deep like the Bose. Great mid and high level’s excellent for all different types of music.
2) Comfort: They come with a case and several different sizes of in ear plastic. The Bose headphones had plastic that came off all the time and if you lost them, you would have to find replacements. These will not come off unless you want them too. They feel good in your ear and comfortable.
3) Noise Isolation: Indeed these do an excellent job of isolating outside noise based upon the precise fit of the ear pieces.
4) Cord length: The cord is the perfect length for me. Not too long, not too short. The Bose headphones have a cord that is just too long and cumbersome.

Negatives:
1) Not really a true negative, but if you are not looking for a sound isolating headphone, do not purchase these. I walk the dog outside quite a bit and have a hard time hearing things around me like traffic or trail runners, which at times can be dangerous. Just something to think about.

If you are looking at purchasing a replacement for a lost or broken pair of iPod headphones, save your money and purchase these. The difference in sound quality between these and stock headphones is clear and vast. I really liked the Bose in ear headphones when they were first released, but these just flat blow those out of the water for overall balanced sound quality and comfort.

The most comfortable plugs ever4
This review is for the new IMAGE S4 Model.

I’ve used many different kinds of headphones and ear plugs in the past, including some that cost many times more than this set, and some that cost less than half. To say I’m addicted to headphones would be an understatement.

The reason I was interested in the S4s was because they were supposed to be comfortable, and have nice bass (was really interested in this). The isolation effect is sometimes appreciated, but for me, not a real requirement.

I have a very wide taste when it comes to music and my use of these earphones. I enjoy listening to brainwave beats, soundtracks (like battlestar galatica), as well as rock / metal and some rap on occasion.

Since these phones say they are good at bass, the first thing I did was put in some rap. I could honestly tell no bass. They sound quite weak (but not really any weaker than any other plugs I have, like the shures). I mention this because I don’t want you buying these thinking you might get some decent bass response over what you are already getting (you wont).

The next major thing about these headphones are how comfortable they are. So I was looking forward to putting them on and seeing first hand…

3 minutes in I was sold, it’s like nothing is in my ear. You feel no pain, your ears dont feel like they are getting “decimated” by the overly large plastic pieces found in some phones. In fact, the whole time I had them on I felt quite comfortable.

When listening to brainwaves, audiobooks, and soundtracks, I really did enjoy these phones. It’s like the sound was just emanating from my mind and not from a set of phones. It’s like you’re “there”.

The fact that these phones can put you in that state with that level of comfort is something to behold.

However, there is one thing I Must mention. Since these are noise isolation phones, when you put these on, you will not want to do much moving around, as every step, every swallow, etc, is amplified throughout these phones. Meaning you hear some things more clearly (they do block out some of the external noise).

For the gym, I still use my sports headphones that wrap around my head (and hurt my ears!), but now at home I use these phones over my larger sennheiser’s (I find it easier to lay down with these than with large phones).

Bottom Line:

Pros:
Incredibly comfortable set of phones
Great sound, they put you “in the music”
Comes with a carrying case
Include additional pieces for your ear

Cons:
The Bass is not that strong (didn’t get these for that “feature”)
Noise isolation phones can be “uncomfortable” when you’re out jogging or running making these phones great for stationary use.

Recommendation:
As long as you’re not buying these for the gym, and plan on using these at home or on the go, you will love them. I do recommend them, they are much cheaper than other plugs with similar prices.

The fact that they put you in the center of the music, and are so very comfortable (can’t begin to tell they are there (except for the somewhat short cable)) you will NOT be disappointed.

Please Note, When I talk about how noise isolation headphones are, what I said might be somewhat over stated (just trying to be thorough), I don’t want people turned off because of it, but if you have not experienced this before, it can be off putting. I still recommend these plugs.

The comfort and spatial qualities are beyond belief.

Klipsch IMAGE S4… Best buds under $100!5
CNET recently released their top 5 choices for best earbuds under $100 and so I figured since I already had the V-Moda Vibes (in need of replacing… the 4th broken pair of em) I would buy two other pairs (Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Enhanced Bass Noise-Isolating Headphone,Ultimate Ears SuperFi 3 Studio Noise Isolating Earphones (Black))and compare the three. CNET had the S4’s at the top and after two weeks of solid use I couldn’t agree more. Klipsch’s buds seem to trump the other two in every way. The S4’s cord doesn’t conduct sound from rubbing like the Vibes, and isn’t perma-kinked like the Ultimate Ears. The S4’s are as stylish as the Vibe’s though seem to be almost as durable as the rugged Ultimate Ears buds. As far as the sound goes the S4’s have slightly tighter bass than the bass heavy (which I like) Vibes and more crisp highs than the Ultimate Ears. So here’s the break down in my opinion.

Customer Reviews:

Great case for 2009 Macbook Pro 15 Unibody4
I’m the type that loves to keep my things new and scratch free as long as possible, so I considered some of the other cases and skins to protect the aluminum body of my new Macbook Pro 15. I also wanted to show the natural aluminum body, since I consider this Apple a work of art: very clean, well designed, put together, and modern looking.

I considered getting either the Incase or the Satin Speck cases, but they were all colored or tinted. None were offered in the clear case except for the Speck See Thru Clear Hard case. The satin cases can also rub off and show the shiny hard plastic underneath, as was done to my cellphone satin case. I seriously considered getting the Bodyguardz or similar that provide a thick urethane skin but they required it to be applied on wet. I’ve applied this to my Ipod, but I wasn’t too keen on applying this to my new Macbook Pro, worrying about getting water into the computer and voiding the warranty. The Gelaskin is applied dry, but again, I couldn’t find a clear version. They all had a pattern or picture that were applied to the skin. The skins protected against scratches, but nothing else. The only solution was the Speck Clear case which also had it’s own issues too.

The Speck Clear case is smooth, and will eventually get scratched and scraped, but better the case than the Macbook. I already tested the protection the case provided by accident because of the slickness of the case. After I installed the clear case over the Macbook, which wasn’t difficult to put on or remove, I put the case in a neoprene sleeve that still fit perfectly. I was surprised that it fit so well, and didn’t add much more bulk. However, the sleeve opens at the side, and not from the top. Well, after using it a couple of times, I forgot to zip up the side, and the computer slipped out of the sleeve with great ease. Ouch, OH NO I cried. I thought I either broke the case, the computer, or both. To my surprise, after dropping about 2 feet (onto a hardwood floor), there was no damage to either case or computer. A testimony to the rugged protection offered by the Speck case.

I’d give it 5 stars if it was not as slick, and more rubberize, but the clear is only available in the slick hard case. It shows the natural beauty and color of the Macbook Pro, and provides the protection it was meant for. I haven’t noticed any heat issues, as it is vented underneath and the case can be easily removed to clean between the computer and the case. All ports, slot disc, button for the battery is accessible by design. The tabs to clip over the case is secure, but minimal as to not add to the bulk or natural look of the Macbook. The case is well designed to the new mid 2009 Macbook Pro unibody (black keys).

Over all, I’m impressed with the case and would highly recommend this if you want to protect and keep your Macbook Pro new and clean.

I think (now THOUGHT) it’s worth it2
Easy to put on, less easy (but not hard) to take off, perfect fit for the MBP. Looks glossy and gorgeous BUT if you’re buying the clear one, it will get scratched up eventually though, so it won’t look all glossy and gorgeous forever. Better the shell than my MBP…The tolerance of the fit is glove-like, but not sealed, so small items (i.e. grains of sand in a backpack I used at the beach 2 moths ago) can STILL get between the shell and the computer and rub some nasty marring into the MBPs finish. So you”ll need to do a visual check around the edges periodically to make sure nothing is in there (the clear plastic makes this effortless). A microfibre cloth is included with the packaging for this exact reason (fortunately I caught them before they did any damage). It does it’s job well, BUT even at Amazon’s lower price ($15 cheaper than the apple store) I still think it’s overpriced, thus I give it 4 stars, though I’d give it 4.5 if I could. After all, it is just a piece of plastic…

Update 3/6/10: Originally gave this product a 4, but after a few months now, I realized you pretty much have to check for particles between the shell and your MacBook EVERY TIME YOU USE IT. As for my MBP, it’s to late. After not checking for about 2 weeks (I use it 3-4 times a week, not everyday), I pulled off the plastic to clean it and there were already small black marks ground into the finish up and down both sides of the laptop. Cleaning with various cloth-types and liquid agents did nothing to remove the marks, the finish is permanently marred. The problem is that anything small CAN & WILL get between the case and the computer. The particles ALSO mar the plastic case on the inside, so after a while you can’t tell if it’s just a scratch on the plastic case or if it’s actually garbage that needs to get cleaned out. So I have to drop the score to 2. If you’re the fastidious type who enjoys cleaning and caring for your products on a CONSTANT basis, go for it, if not, get a bag with a soft non-abrasive liner. My Speck case is now in the trash, along with the $40 it cost me. :-/

Impressive!5
First of all, let me say I LOVE Amazon. Everything I have gotten has been as described, at a good price, and fast delivery. That being said, I just got my Speck Crystal Clear hard shell cover for my MacBook Pro. I really like the clear one because it doesn’t take anything away from the beauty of this machine. Other than being shiny, everything looks exactly the same. It is thin enough to not add bulk and the added weight is negligible. It couldn’t have been any easier to install, just snaps on and it doesn’t interfere with the opening of the screen at all. I’ve been researching cases to protect my MacBook Pro for quite a while and am very glad I decided on this one. I’m not sure I understand the people talking about dirt and sand getting under the case and scratching the laptop. If you pay $2,000 for a laptop, a little common sense about what you subject it to would be appropriate. I would definitely recommend this case.

Customer Reviews:

Beautiful leather cover5
I had this cover in the original design with straps and had some issues with it not folding back very well and the pocket being huge. These issues have now been addressed. This cover folds back beautifully and the pocket is flush with the case. The cover closes perfectly as well. No longer a problem with it not being flush with the kindle. This cover feels very soft yet sturdy in the hands. It’s pricey but if you are interested in spending money on a high quality leather cover this is a great one. Too many covers for the kindle just feel like gadget cases and I wanted something that looked like a leather book cover. This gives me that. I feel like I am reading from an old leatherbound book with this cover. I also feel its very durable and should keep very well. It weighs 7.6 ounces for anyone interested. Its heavier than the amazon cover but feels lighter in my hands. I think that is because it is thicker (without being bulky) so its more comfortable in my hands. As well as having a little ledge for my hands to rest when I read for a long period which the amazon cover doesn’t give you.

Perfect cover5
This is such a perfect cover for my Kindle! It is soft, light, but sturdy enough to protect the Kindle. It folds back perfectly and is of a very high quality. I previously bought an M-ledge cover, but returned it, due to low quality of leather, bad smell and too bulky design. Highly recommend this one, it is pricey, but well worth the money!

Covering in Elegance5
I have been using the Cole-Haan cover since I got my Kindle2. In addition to the protection it provides for kindle, it also offers elegance and finesse to the experience of holding and using Kindle2. It is soft, and resistant. The other day I spilled coffee drops on it and once I cleaned it, it was brand new again.

Customer Reviews:

Works well5
After about one month past the first anniversary of my Dell XPS m1530, the Dell battery that came with my computer (85Wh, 9-cell Li-ion) stopped charging, or, when it did charge, would only hold the charge for a few minutes. This was a sudden change, not the usual gradual decline in capacity over a number of years as I have experienced with other laptops. Not great, since although the computer has a few years of warranty left, Dell only gives the battery one year. I looked into getting another Dell battery from Dell, but found it to be very expensive, and that a lot of people were having similar experiences with their Dell batteries shortly after the one year mark.

After a lot of searching, I found this third party battery on Amazon, which cost less than half the price of the Dell battery. This battery has been working great so far. If I have future problems in a year I will be sure to return to provide an update.

A few things to note about the dimensions of this battery. It is not as long as my old Dell battery (10-7/8 inch vs 12-1/2 inch). Both batteries raise the computer when installed, but the new battery raises the computer about 1/8 inch less than the old Dell battery. Finally, this new battery extends out the back of the laptop by about 1/2 inch, whereas the old Dell battery did not extend past the back of the laptop at all. I never noticed that the new battery extended past the back until I tried to put my laptop in my backpack and it would not fit in the laptop sleeve.

Good product5
I bought this because the 6 cell battery for my M1530 didn’t last quite as long as I would like. I received the product 5 business days after ordering in good packaging with a special bag to protect the battery. Took out my old battery and put this one in and it worked right away. Came 50% charged and now at high performance I can get a good 3 - 3.5 hours out of it; I can get much more by setting Vista to balanced or power saver. BE AWARE THAT THIS BATTERY RAISES THE BACK OF YOUR LAPTOP WHEN INSTALLED. Only con that doesn’t really matter is that the seller did not notify me when the battery was shipped or provide me with a tracking number but I still got it in decent time. Also this battery is much cheaper than buying it from Dell.

Skeptical but I now stand corrected5
Purchased this about 2 years after the purchase of my M1530. Went to Dell’s website and was not about to spend one hundred and fifty five bucks. Got it in about 3 days, the packaging was professional and I was impressed. I have the 8600M GT and the 1440×900 screen, and on power saver with a few notches of brightness lower than the highest setting, the battery lasted almost 5 hours on the first charge. The battery itself is no bigger than the dell 9 cell. If you are skeptical about purchasing a third party battery, simply do not be, at least from AGPtek.

Customer Reviews:

Physically Active? These are for you!5
Let me start by saying that I have been on a very expensive quest this past year to locate in-ear headphones which met what I thought were fairly reasonable standards. After all every manufacturer out there has some sports figure on the packaging so how hard could it be right? I needed headphones which were durable, stayed put while: running, using the elliptical as well as laying flat while lifting weights and doing crunches. Finally and most importantly they needed to be highly sweat resistant. The headphones needed to meet these criteria while sounding phenomenal. If you are reading this you have probably been on the same quest and can’t believe what a pain it is to find something that meets such obvious standards. Well I’m happy to report that you need not look any further!

These ear buds are the best I have ever owned and let me tell you I have tried several. I have a drawer full of failed headsets which all managed to die right outside the return policy. The warranties are useless since they will only replace them with what you already have which you know will only fail in a few weeks (if you are that lucky).

Sound:
The sound from these headsets is very rich. These headsets are capable of fooling your senses. I’ve had to pause music thinking there was external sound when it turns out it was simply sounds and instruments I didn’t know was in the song because it was inaudible with previous headsets I’ve owned. It is literally like rediscovering your own music collection. The bass gives you the feeling of having a mini subwoofer in your head. Unless you have been to way too many Slayer concerts the volume these headsets can reach is simply stunning and will over power even the noisiest environments all with NO distortion. The Chicago subway is no match for them. Even without them playing they actually block sound because of the snug fit. If your cardio is heavily dependent on you being able to get into a zone and tune the rest of the world out while focusing strictly on the rhythm of your music then this is a huge plus. When you purchase these it is absolutely imperative that you spend just a couple of minutes selecting from the three bud sizes included. Without a proper fit you will be disappointed.

Durability:
They have been tugged, snagged in zippers, and I had to battle my cat for them at one point. Through it all they have managed to hold up. This is mainly because they didn’t use plastic. Instead they used rubber. It makes a world of difference.

Staying put:
Simply put, they aren’t going anywhere until you pull them out! I’ve run, used the elliptical, done weights, crunches, and through it all I was unable to shake them loose. Remember this is heavily dependent on selecting the correct size buds which are included in the package. The paperwork that comes with them tells you this but it doesn’t tell you the other two factors that keep these in place. First, these headsets are designed so that the chord for the left ear bud is shorter than the right. These headphone are designed to go behind the head. Meaning you put the right ear-bud in from the back of your neck. Secondly, these headphones come with a clip. Attach the clip just an inch or two below the split for right and left ear. I usual clip to the collar of my shirt. These two things are just as important as finding a snug fit. If you don’t run the headphone behind your head and place them in your ear, and if you don’t clip it to your shirt, then the weight of the generous chord will pull them out once you get sweaty enough.

Sweat Resistance:
You are in the middle of your favorite work out jam. You are also about half way through the work out. Your heart rate is up, your breathing has synchronized, and you are totally focused. Then one of the ear buds starts sliding out so you grab it and push it back in trying to keep your pace. Then the music starts cutting out because you’ve inadvertently pushed a little sweat in when you reseated the bud. Now your music is in mono, you do what you can to try to revive the dead bud but its no use. You’ve got half a work out left and you know its going to be tedious because now its just you and the uncontrollable urge to stare at the timer. Sound familiar? I would say that perhaps 80% of my previous headphones have met their demise thanks to sweat. My cardio is very rigorous and when I’m done I’m usually drenched. These headphones have stood up to every soaking my brow can throw at them. As a testament to their resistance the instructions actually recommend running them under a light tap to clean them. Finally someone was listening!

These headphones have brought an abrupt end to my search and I hope this review has helped you do the same.

GREAT SOUND, but not quite as slip-free as i anticipated3
this review is based on my first use - i could wait after a few runs, but i guess i’m just excited to use them and i figured it wouldn’t change with subsequent uses. i was originally considering the Sennheiser MX85 twist to fit, but saw these and decided to give it a shot. i have shure e3c, some cheapo sony in-ear, and they both slip everytime i run. i live in dallas, so heat and sweat during runs are a given.

as other reviews noted, the NEGATIVE aspects i agree on are:

1) the wire material is tacky and does tangle;
2) the case is pretty useless - i had to roll the cord around 3 fingers and stuff it in there - when i pull it out, it’s a struggle to untangle;
3) they still slip out of my ear going into my first mile (due to sweat) and i normally run 3-4, so it requires alot of adjustment - i eventually gave up
4) i did get some wire noise (described as the noise from a stethoscope), but it wasn’t too annoying

POSITIVE:
1) CLEAN and well-balanced sound - i have to set the bass on my eq to half and still get good punch. highs are crisp
2) very comfortable - i used the smallest adapter
3) can’t comment on the rinsing to clean - first day using it
4) wire length didn’t bother me as long as i let it run behind my neck - the clip that was included helped

if they stayed in my ear for more than 2 miles, then it would probably get 4-5 stars, b/c that’s my MAIN ISSUE about in-ear sport phones - they can’t stay in - is it even possible?! i can see how these phones are good for gym and non-agressive workouts, but it doesn’t work for me on my runs. i guess i could go for the twist to fit and see how those are. otherwise, i’m still open for suggestions on good sport headphones.

i’ll be keeping these for general listening b/c of sound quality and comfort. i hate to say it, but they sound better than my shure e3c (used a headphone splitter and plugged both in each ear), but that’s not the point of this review.

best sports headphones ever, but still not perfect5
For years, I’ve been searching for a really good set of earphones to wear in the gym. Most headphones I’ve tried have been to fragile, breaking after a couple months due to repetitive motion. All of the headphones I tried got to be pretty gross (I sweat a lot). I didn’t want the headphones to fall out of my ears (like the standard apple earbuds), or give me a headache (like most of the behind-the-head models). When I read that these headphones could be cleaned off under running water, I ordered a pair of these immediately.

These headphones are, by far, the best pair of headphones I’ve ever owned for active use. They’re pretty comfortable, the sound quality is very good, and like other in-ear headphones, they do a good job keeping out noise. They’re so good that I’m planning to leave my noise-canceling headphones at home on my next flight, and just travel with these.

Unfortunately, they’re not perfect. As other reviewers have noted, the earbuds are attached to uneven cable lengths; the cable for the right ear is much longer. This means that you have to put the extra cable around the back of your neck. The headphone cord is made of a rubbery material, which I find sticks to the back of my neck, causing the headphones to pull a little when I move. Not a deal killer, but something to think about.

The angles connector is also slightly awkward. Recent iPods and iPhones are designed to have a connector that sticks straight out. (For example, take a look at the armbands designed for the iPod Nanos.) I’m slightly concerned that this will lead to more cable bending, possibly shortening the life of the headphones.

However, those are pretty minor quibbles. This is the best pair of sports headphones I’ve ever used; I already ordered a second pair of these for my wife. I’d recommend these to anyone who wants a pair of good quality headphones for exercising.

Customer Reviews:

This item is getting something of an undeserved rap here…5
*** Note: Several recent comments have stated that this product no longer comes with a worldwide voltage input (100-240V) power supply. That’s a shame, and I’d definitely knock a star off the review if I could due to this change on D-Link’s part — I can only imagine it was part of a cost-cutting move. :-(

Original review:

I’ve had one for about six months now, and it’s worked without problems. One of the things I particularly like with it is that it comes with one of the newer “slimline” power supplies that doesn’t block other plugs, works anywhere in the world (100-240V), and is more efficient than the old “wall wart” power supplies.

Let me address some of the other comments here:

1) For the guy with the Lexar data card… it is a blight on D-Link’s reputation that their technical support was clearly incompetent (this is sadly true of many companies today — being pushed there in part by the relentless “drive to the bottom” by consumers who often care more about price than quality and support), but I doubt that even a really good company could have helped much. Although the hub may have somehow been at fault, it’s also possible the Lexar card had problems — even if it worked fine in other hubs. For the record, I’ve used a handful of USB drives with this hub without problems… although not a Lexar brand.

2) Regaridng plugging in a USB 1.0/1.1 device and slowing the hub down — this doesn’t actually happen, at least in the hub I received, but what D-Link is doing is hedging their bets (hence the word “may” — which unfortunately these days many manufacturers use when the word “will” is more correct!): Inside the hub you’ll find a VERY generic hub IC (actually, two of them), and D-Link has a lot of freedom to use different vendors’ ICs based on price, availability, etc. All of them are USB 2.0 hubs, but ones without so-called “per port transaction translators” will drop to full speed (12Mbps) if any of the ports have such a device plugged into them. Happily, ICs like this are pretty much extinct today (when USB 2.0 first came out they were around). In any case, your solution of just getting two hubs certainly still applies. I agree this should be a little bit more prominently advertised, but so should a lot of things about USB, WiFi, etc. — the oft-touted data routes of 480Mbps and 54Mbps (respectively) are pure fantasy, for instance, in real world applications.

Backward compatible with USB 1.0 and 1.1???3
The product is and does what all the descriptions say. Looks good, nice and small etc. etc. It is, of course, backward compatible with USB 1.0 and 1.1, but I got a nasty surprise when I opened the box and read the “Quick Install Guide”. Under the “tips” section, they state: “Connecting USB 1.1 devices to the DUB-H7 may cause all USB devices connected to the hub work at USB 1.1 speed. To ensure 480Mbps throughput for your USB 2.0 devices, do not connect USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices to the hub at the same time.” Maybe this is common knowledge to a computer expert, but to me it wasn’t! I have 1.1 and 2.0 devices which I want to connect, and now I have to start unplugging and re-plugging devices constantly? That’s why I bought a hub with 7 ports in the first place! If I had known this, I would have bought two 4-port hubs: one for my USB 1.1 devices, and one for my USB 2.0 devices.

You can download the Quick install guide I am talking about at Dlink’s website: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=149 and click on “Install Guides” for the PDF format download.

My Experience: Underpowered and Unreliable1
I was excited to have this 7-Port USB 2.0 hub until I discovered that it cannot handle more than four devices reliability and it cannot handle any high power devices, such as an external hard drive at all. I tried USB powered externals (Seagate 100 GB) and external hard drives with their own power supply (Western Digital 250 GB) It just doesn’t recognize these. My Seagate 100 GB external started making that funny noise it makes when it is not getting enough power.

I also had trouble with my Linksys transmitter for my wireless Skype phone. It worked fine when plugged directly into one of the computer USB ports, but would not work at all with the D-Link Hub.

I would think the unit was defective, except that the mouse, Cruzer USB drive, and keyboard that I have plugged into it work fine.

This device has its own power supply, but it doesn’t seem to be able to handle the load. I would not recommend it. I plan to replace mine with another brand.

Customer Reviews:

Great tool when traveling abroad5
I purchased this device a few weeks ago in anticipation of a trip to the UK. I’ve driven there before, navigating with the excellent AA road atlases, but being an American driving a right hand drive car with a manual transmission, sometimes in bad weather, I would often get task-saturated. I thought a GPS or “Sat Nav” as they call them, would make the job a little easier.
The only features that I really needed in a GPS unit were the U.S and European maps and text-to-speech, (”turn left on High street”), beyond that, additional whistles and bells didn’t matter to me.
Initially I looked at both Garmin and TomTom and decided to go with Garmin since it was less expensive to find a unit that had North American and European maps. I paid about $270 for my 275T, it was the least expensive unit that had European maps pre-installed. Buying the European map separately would cost you approximately $150 and the UK-only map runs about $99.
The 275T operation is fairly straight forward. It has all of the normal features that one would expect to find on a modern GPS unit to include a fairly robust POI (Point Of Interest) database loaded with gas stations, restaurants, airports etc… The touch screen works well and although the size is smaller, (3.5″ vs 4.3″ on some larger units), it was more than adequate to display all of the necessary information. The voice directions are very helpful, especially when driving in heavy traffic. Traffic updates in the US arrive via an FM transmitter in the charger cord, (in Europe you have to plug in an antenna wire which comes with the unit). You can also easily preload lots of destinations to your “favorites” on the device by using the Google map or Panoramio photo websites.
In the UK the 275T proved to be invaluable; you feel much freer to stray from the beaten path and do a bit of exploring knowing that your GPS will always get you to your appointed destination. The time to destination estimates were accurate and the routes were efficient. When initially turned on, the unit located satellites quickly and never lost the connection except when in parking garages, or tunnels. Sometimes when surrounded by lots of tall buildings, like in downtown London, the unit would appear to get confused about the direction in which it was pointing. Moving the car just a few dozen feet or so normally corrected this. The included Europe maps were very accurate with the exception of a new stretch of highway between Falkirk and Edinburgh which was not included on the map database. Road names, one-way streets, and parking areas were all up to date. I found the inclusion of “safety camera” locations, (read: “speed trap cameras”), to be very helpful; it even flashed a red warning when you exceed the speed limit in an area with a camera.
The only feature that I sometimes wish was included was a compass heading. If you just turn on the unit, but don’t program in a destination, your directional heading, (North, East etc…), is displayed in the lower right hand corner. However when it’s giving you directions, your estimated time to arrival takes up that area of the screen. Overall however, I thought the unit was great and I would recommend the 275T if your travels take you between North America and Europe on occasion. Renting a GPS with your car in the UK will typically add about $15 per day; use your 275T for a couple weeks and it’s practically paid for itself.

Capable Device, But Expensive Maps and Updates2
First the good: The Nuvi 275T is a capable navigator that gives precise spoken instructions and seems to find good routes to specified locations. The display is nice and even readable in adverse lighting situations. The battery life could be a bit longer that one could use it on a bike or for hiking. It runs less than 4 hours, and the batteries cannot be exchanged (this also means it will die an ipod-style death in a couple of years). A great feature is that it can directly be fed with locations through Google maps, so one does not have to use the silly Garmin software anymore for this task. I summary, this is a pretty useful device.
Now the bad: It says on the box that the maps are guaranteed for 60 days after purchase to make sure one has the newest data in there at the time of purchase. Logging on to Garmin however yields a mechanism that only allows to update either the US or the Europe maps, but not both. If you want both you have to pay for the other one…I would call this procedure misleading. Also: ‘Lifetime updates’ (of course, typically Garmin, only for the lifetime of the device, i.e. for about two years) cost $149, which, considering the current price of the device of

Masters of Rural France5
I am amazed! We got this device to use on our vacation driving though France and it made the trip. No stress about getting lost, or running out of gas. If we saw a cute country road, we took it, when we wanted to find our way back, the 275 would tell us in easy to follow instructions on how to get back on track. We went on roads without names, signs, or map instructions fearlessly. When we needed gas in rural nowhere, it took us right to it. Highway interchanges in the city, no problem, it tells you in advance if you are going to be splitting left or right. It also will take you right to your hotel, so don’t worry about directions, or if you need, it will find you a nearby hotel like the gas station.

I have only used it for the 2 weeks in France, but it far surpassed our expectations. Indeed I just gave up trying to follow where we were on the map and just relaxed. It even gives a rather accurate ETA, which it updates continuously.

Now we did try using it to navigate on foot in Spain with somewhat spotty results. It seems to work much better when you are in a car. It trys to navigate like you are in a car and has difficulty at street corners trying to tell which direction you are going…but it did find us nearby Chinese food in Madrid when we got a craving.

Really this gadget saved us so much stress, time, and fuel. The included car charger worked great in Europe, so don’t bother with the travel pack.

Amazon.com
Garmin’s nuvi 275T improves upon its 200-series predecessors by adding free real-time traffic updates from Navteq (for the life of the device) as well as Bluetooth connectivity to your cell phone. Other significant improvements in the 2×5 series include a predictive technology that provides faster satellite lock, a redesigned screen with more information, terrain maps, and an exciting new photo navigation feature. The 275T provides complete maps for North America as well as Europe and the handy Text-to-Speech feature, so you get turn-by-turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. “turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way”, rather than merely “turn left in 50 feet”).

The nuvi 2×5 models all sport the slim design that Garmin introduced with the 200-series last year, so they all fit comfortably in your pocket or purse, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that makes them convenient for navigation by car or foot. All of the models include useful travel tools like a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more.

Important Product Information: This device features a “screen lock” feature. This is a standard feature on all nuvi 2×5 and 7×5 Garmin units. If you slide the “Power” key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the “Power” key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for “Pedestrian” mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. For more information, see page 5 of the product manual.

Integrated Traffic Receiver

Steer clear of traffic with an integrated GTM 20 FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. No subscriptions or additional hardware needed. Just open the box, turn it on, and get instant access to traffic information–the traffic updates are free for the life of the device.

All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you’ll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you’re forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nuvi’s sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. Watch informational video

In most areas, the traffic broadcasts are continuous–there’s no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a “silent” FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.

Hands-Free Calling

In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. WIth Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker, you can match your nuvi to any Bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nuvi’s touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone’s call history log.

New Improved Interface

One of Garmin’s key product philosophies is to make extremely complex technology easy to use for anyone right out of the box, and perhaps nowhere is that better exemplified than in the user interface for Garmin’s portable navigation devices.

Garmin’s interface is a key to their success part of what makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nuvi takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and smooth map updates as you navigate.

This year, Garmin has redesigned its interface to include much more useful information.

New HotFix™ – aka: Satellite Ephemeris Data Prediction

hotfix Your GPS device locks onto transmissions from a dedicated network of Satellites in order to determine its position. Until the device gets a “lock” on three satellites, it can’t effectively navigate, so decreasing the time it takes for your device to get “satellite lock” is always a goal of GPS manufacturers. With Garmin’s new HotFix technology, your Garmin GPS remembers the position of all satellites it is tracking when you turn it off, and calculates their movements in order to predict where they should be the next time you turn it on. This gives the device an idea of where it should look for satellites, and dramatically decreases the time it takes for your Garmin to get its position and start navigating. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to 3 days after the device was last turned off.

Using Garmin’s unique Web site — Garmin Connect Photos — users can choose from millions of geo-located photos provided by Google’s Panoramio photo sharing community and download them to the nuvi for a richer navigation experience using pictures as a guide.

Widescreen — See More of What’s Around

The super-bright, 3.5-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views.

The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

Wider screen lets you see more of what’s around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen

No cooler will make your notebook ice cold, but this one will definitely lower the temperature. It works REGARDLESS of notebook design, and I will explain how.

The pros FAR OUTWEIGH the cons. I have added most of these cons after long term use. These are mostly nit-picky cons, and this unit is still a great value. That holds true for both the original unit and the updated design.

PROS
+ The plastic body and metal top are well designed for a solid feel
+ The nice aluminum top spreads heat very well and is durable
+ The USB cable is pass through with an extra USB port to connect other devices
+ The cable length is nice and short
+ There is a small compartment to tuck away the cable after use
+ The fans run VERY quietly at either high or low speeds
+ The rubber feet are solid and provide nice stability and grip
+ It now has surface holes for optional rubber pegs for more space to improve air-flow
+ The unit is stable enough that a well positioned laptop will sit flat and will not *rock* back and forth
+ Can also be used to cool AV components or to add air-flow around your HTPC
+ After using mine for several years and buying more as gifts, I can vouch for the durability
+ The 3 year warrantee that comes with the product gives you some comfort in the case the product does fail

CONS
- The fans and outer holes gather dust over time; just clean it with compressed air
- The USB power cord and base connector could be more durable, so handle with care
- The unit looks like air flows through the entire top, but it only flows through the 2 fans positioned in the center; It’s more visible on the Antec Notebook Cooler (Pearl) version than the black and silver one
- The blue LED light may be too bright for some people, but it can easily be covered with electrical tape
- The cable may be too short for those without left side USB ports; purchase a USB extender cable
- The cooler is very thick, so you need a big laptop bag if you want to bring it with you
- The surface pegs can fall out if not inserted all the way; just twist when you insert them to lock them in
- The unit’s smaller size makes it ideal for 14 - 16 inch laptops; for larger units you will need to use the surface pegs
- The item frequently goes out of stock and has price changes
- The list price of $50 seems unreasonable

How it Works

This cooler works in several ways. First of all, the fans create air flow under the laptop that will draw the heat away from the bottom of the laptop and onto the cooler surface. This works regardless of whether there is a small or large space.

In some cases your laptop may flex so that the cooler will slightly touch the bottom of your laptop. That’s ok because the aluminum surface attracts and spreads out the heat to cool your laptop down. Most laptops can benefit from this *heat spreading*.

The fans are designed to draw heat from the aluminum away from the laptop. That is why the fans blow the way they do. They still circulate air under the laptop. You can feel the air with your hand if you hold it over the cooler. If the air blew the other way it would blow dust and heat into your laptop vents.

Contrary to some comments, this cooler cannot create a vacuum under your laptop. Similarly this cooler will not *fight* for air with your laptop fans. The air intake for both your laptop and the cooler is coming from the surrounding area. Unless you are using this cooler while orbiting the earth in a space station, there is plenty of air to allow for a few small fans to pull air in more than one direction. The aluminum will still pull heat from the bottom and spread it away from the unit. And the fans will still pull air over the surface of the laptop’s base to cool it.

Common Issues and Solutions

1.) If the LED light bothers you, you can cover it with a small piece of electrical tape. I sleep with it on all the time. You can see it in the dark but it doesn’t bother me.

2.) The little door that holds the USB power wire has 2 clips on the back and a button on the front.. Make sure you have pulled that release button forward again. You can just clip it back into place.

3.) The cooler can be used on your lap but it works much better with something like the Jumbo Lap Desk. Wood lap desks don’t flex like the plastic ones but tend to cost more, so you have to see what works for you. Even Belkin’s CushTop Notebook Stand might be an option.

4.) The newer units have added surface pegs, but they can fall out. Make sure you have fully twisted them when you insert them. That will allow the pieces that hold them in place to fully rest on the inside of the cover so they won’t fall out.

Comparing to the Competition

This unit has a more durable aluminum top, stronger plastic, ergonomic shape, and quieter fan than the competition. This unit is much better than the original Targus PA248U Notebook Chill Pad which was made of very flimsy and thin plastic. Targus created a newer Targus Notebook Cooling Chill Mat (AWE11US) with harder plastic and also a Targus AWE12US Notebook Chill Hub with extra USB ports. Neither has an aluminum top, and they still don’t perform as well.

There are completely metal versions that are available like the Cooler Master NotePal Widescreen Notebook Cooler ( R9-NBC-AWAK ) designed for larger or wide-screen units. Most of those cost more and still have their own cons.

There are also stands and inclined holders designed to let more air flow beneath your laptop, like the Logitech Alto Express Notebook Stand or the Logitech Alto Connect Notebook Stand. Those will help a little but not as much as a fan. I personally don’t like typing on inclined stands and only use them for docked laptops.

Conclusion

The list price is excessive, but this cooler is a great deal at $20 or less. This item is also frequently sold at brick and mortar stores with mail in rebates. I hate those so I just wait for it to go on sale here. At this point I have bought 4 for myself and several as gifts.

I hope that this information has been helpful and has shown why this cooler is good despite the imperfections. At the right price this unit can be a great value so definitely check it out.

Enjoy!

Better Than the Rest! (Based on My Tests)5
Most of laptop cooler/chill pads are made of PLASTIC and use fans that blow air TOWARDS the laptop. What impresses me about this product is that the cooling surface is made of ALUMINUM (just like the aluminum casing used to keep portable hard drives cool) and its fans PULL/SUCK HOT AIR AWAY from underneath the laptop. This method of REMOVING hot air is superior to blowing room temperature air at the laptop (it’s also the same mechanism used by laptop/desktop internal fans).

MY TESTS: I compared the latest Targus high-speed chill mat (Model PA248U) to this one. After running the laptop for one hour on each, I noticed the surface of the laptop (keyboard, palm rest, touch pad, etc.) was the same in both cases (very cool). But there was a noticeable difference on left side of my laptop (where my Dell’s internal fan exhausts warm air). With the Targus, there was noticeable amounts of warm air being exhausted by the laptop’s internal fan. With the Antec, there was much less warm air being exhausted than the Targus. So the Antec does a superior job cooling the laptop since the laptop’s internal fan was exhausting less hot air.

MINOR DETAILS: The Antec allows you to control the speed of the fan (high or low) while the Targus is fixed, presumably at high (and is rather noisy). The Targus does have a simple push on/off switch; the Antec does not (you have to unplug it for off). The Antec’s USB cord is pass-through meaning Antec will NOT take us one USB slot (the Targus did not have this feature). The Antec has a very strong Blue LED light to indicate it is on (it could be helpful as an on/off indicator, but it is very annoying in low-light condition because it is very bright).

BOTTOM LINE: Because the cooling surface is made of aluminum and because the fans work to draw hot air away from the laptop (much like your laptop’s internal fan), Antec is a superior product. Also, my simple tests showed that the laptop was cooler using Antec.

Check for cooling direction3
While the Antec cooler is a very good product it does not serve every notebook computer equally. Before you buy this product ensure that your computer exhausts the hot air to the bottom of the computer. My computer’s 5 fans suck air from the bottom and exhaust the heated air to the sides and rear. The Antec only limited the airflow rather than increasing it and resulted in a cooked CPU and motherboard. I still use it to raise the computer up off the desk but do not turn it on.

jBuds are Ear Buddies5
These were my fourth pair of earbuds and the most impressive I’ve owned. The wiring and connections are solid and reinforced. I’ve replaced earbuds when the wiring breaks or the sound volume becomes unequal.

I’m hard on earbuds. My workday starts late in the morning and lasts until late in the evening. I need to still be asleep when the gardeners come with their leaf blowers and weed whackers. Earbuds serve a dual purpose: they keep sound out and give me pleasant sounds to sleep by. Being a bit of an insomniac, my MP3 player helps me to fall asleep each night as well. This is tough on earphones.

I’m impressed with the construction of these buds. Stress points are well reinforced and unlikely to fail. But ruggedness isn’t the primary reason for buying phones … sound quality is.

These are second to none when it comes to sound quality. Bass is solid with no distortion. The midrange and highs are crisp and clear. I’ve listened to everything from hip-hop to classical and they have provided a superior listening experience.

The worst feature of these phones is that they have a straight plug into the media player instead of an angled plug. This makes it easier to accidently unplug the phones. At worst, a minor drawback. Also, the barrel of the buds is a bid longer than others. At first I thought this would be a problem with lying on a pillow, but it hasn’t disturbed me at all.

These utterly dominate all the other earbuds I’ve owned, both in terms of construction quality and in terms of sound. Buy a pair with confidence - you can’t go wrong.

Good Step Up From Apple Earbuds3
As Apple headphone replacements, these are very good headphones. Purely on an audio basis, these leave a lot to be desired, highs are muted.

September 10, 2009 Update: Wow JLabs continues to be amazing. In the middle of the summer, the audio jack separated from the headphone wires. Essentially making the headphones useless. They got a ton of play by my son who loved the design. A few emails to JLabs and no response. After a month or so and a few emails, I gave up. Oh well, go buy some new headphones, and call it a day. Well this past week I got an email saying they were sorry about not responding. Another email back with no intention that they would respond. Oh my goodness was I wrong this evening. They are standing behind these broken headphones and sending me a replacement. There’s another little bonus as a great good will gesture. These guys just amaze me. There is also a letter of apology by the owner of JLabs explaining what happened. A rough customer service moment for warranty repairs; and they appear to be back on track beautifully.
September 19, 2009 Update: replacement earphones have arrived. They included a nice vinyl JLabs zipper case for the headphones, and a speaker surprise. So Jlabs did make right on this problem.

Nov. 27 update: JLabs is a very impressive company. They posted a comment to this review and suggested that I burn in the headphones. That is very good advice - sometimes it does take 24 hours or a week or two to free up a speaker and get it to sound optimal. So I ran my iPod for 24 hours, played 394 songs at medium volume (no I didn’t listen that whole time). My particular sample improved somewhat, but the highs are still muted (reran the same tests). Clearer now, but still not the fabulous sound I’ve read about in so many other reviews. They can be brought into line with a large amount of high Hz equalizer.

Sorry guys - customer service, JLab gets 5,000 stars for caring so much. Design and look, they get a solid 5 stars. Comfort, 5 stars. It’s just that all those things go away when they are in my ears and I’m listening, they are 3 star headphones. It’s possible I have the 1 in 1,000,000 lower quality sample. They still can’t be beat as upgrades from the standard earbuds that come with most players.

Back to the original review:

The good. These headphones are comfortable to wear. The ear bud material is soft and fits mosts ears well (there’s three different sizes, typical of all in ear headphones). They stay in your ear well. Not recommended for the active person, but they won’t fall out while you walk. The headphones are low profile, so if you are laying on a pillow they don’t fall out or poke harder into your ear. The construction looks decent, they have a nice solid feel to them. The wires are fairly thin, but they look like they will survive. The jack is a straight one. It appears to be a little extra long, so it might fit an original iPhone.

Isolation - it works well. Anyone moving up from Apple earbuds will be stunned at how quiet these phones isolate the world. You’ll be a bit surprised at hearing yourself swallow and breathe. It’s the same for all passive isolating in ear headphones. These are no exception, and are not really any better than others at isolation.

The bad. Audio quality. Highs are muted pretty badly. Bass is decent, you should never expect an in ear headphone to rattle or vibrate. These headphones dig fairly deep into the bass. Midrange is decent, voices sound fairly good. Where these really fall flat, the high range. They have virtually no treble to speak of.

My testing. I tried these headphones connected to a Nokia N95-3 cell phone, an iPod (5th gen), a portable DVD player, and Logitech Z-10 computer speakers. I listened to a variety of programs, video games, comedy video, movies, and music. In all cases the highs were definately missing. My reference headphones are Shure E3c’s, yes they cost 4 times the price of these (list price), but they are a reference point. I also compared to Apple’s earbuds.

Movie viewing: Hancock - John Lee Hooker’s opening song and the solo cello music later in the movie all were muted, but had good low tones. Dialog was clear. The explosions were clear. Imaging (the sense of where a sound is coming from) is really poor, most of the sound appered to be coming from the middle of my head. Not a bad headphone for movies.

Music: Garbage - Shirley Manson’s voice was not clear and crisp. The band actually sounded separated from her singing (something not heard with the Shures). High guitar notes were muddled. Beth Orton, Central Reservation, I heard similar problems.

Cell Phone: my Nokia has a bit of a hiss whenever music or videos play. It’s almost annoying with my Shure headphones. The JBuds did a good job masking that hiss. So as a cell phone headphone for listening only, these aren’t bad.

I like the look, feel, and construction of the JBuds. Wish I could say that the sound quality was equally great. I won’t retire my Shure headphones.

J2s are OK, but there are better out there3
I compared these J2 earbuds directly with a pair of Sennheiser CX300 Earbuds that I bought and reviewed here on Amazon last year. I played some Ella Fitzgerald, Acoustic Alchemy and Brian Culbertson. I immediately noticed a difference in sound. The Sennheisers had more ‘presence’ — the highs were clearer and the vocal range (around 1000kH) was brighter and more natural. The J2s sounded a bit muddy or muffled in comparison.

That said though, listening is a very subjective experience. I listen for natural sounding vocals and acoustic instruments. I like a ‘live’ sound and not overdone or muddy bass. Just to get a different perspective, I did the same music test with my 14 year old son and his two friends. I played for them Life in the Fast Lane by the Eagles and let them switch between the two earbud sets. They hands-down chose the J2s over the Sennheisers. So much for my opinion. :-)

I think I’d conclude that if you like bass-heavier, mid-range type music - maybe genres like rock, hip-hop, alternative, techno - then these J2s would work fine for you. If you tend to be fussy about equalizer settings, like to hear a clear soundstage and presence, and critical listening to music is important to you, then I would shop around some more, or at least compare these earbuds to others in the same price range.

Awesome phone, huge upgrade from N955
I upgraded from a Nokia N95 and couldn’t be happier. Feature-wise, the two phones are almost the same, but the performance of the X6 is vastly improved. Sure it’s not hard to beat an old phone, but this one leaves me wanting for nothing.
Like all top-end Nokia phones, it has great built-in features: GPS, camera/video, music player, FM radio, wifi, 3g.
Apps load very fast, and the native browser loads really quick too. Wifi reception is great, and the GPS locks on within seconds.
The glass touchscreen is very accurate and easy to use; the display is beautiful. The haptic feedback is a little inconsistent or delayed, but it doesn’t distract.
Menu layout is improved too, and once you figure it out, everything is within a tap or two. The Contacts layout on the home screen is hugely useful.
My one complaint is headphone volume is too loud or soft; the controls are not fine enough. That was true on the N95 too.

a good unlocked phone5
ya we know the symbain system is old, the hardware is outdated. But this phone does its job! mass storage, good sound quality, good call quality, nice camera. It has almost every upgrade needed from 5800, not to mention the new and better screen. Also, the price is reasonable and you are still contract free! This phone will work several years for sure.

Old operating system but great phone5
Yes, like somebody else already said the symbiam is old and outdated but still this phone can do things that my iPhone can’t. It’s small enough and the screen is pretty good, also battery life is great compared again to iPhone. You can use skype over 3G and do wireless tethering with Joikuspot app. I love my iPhone but I also love this X6.
