Since the days of bargain-bin videotapes by labels like Goodtimes, I’ve always been wary of these “too grand to be factual” deals. Yet, as I am quite a fan of the films of Alfred Hitchcock, I couldn’t pass this one up. And for the most allotment, I’m overjoyed I gambled a few bucks.

As of this writing, the majority of these films are level-headed in the public domain and thus, not available from companies willing to employ the time and money on a splendid restoration. It’s worth noting, though, that some of the best films here ARE available in near-pristine condition in the 3-disc The Alfred Hitchcock Box Site (The Ring / The Manxman / Abolish! / The Skin Game / Rich and Weird) . Two are available in Criterion Collections: The Lady Vanishes - Criterion Collection and The 39 Steps (Criterion Collection Spine #56), while Alfred Hitchcock’s Jamaica Inn can be found in a cleaned-up version from Image. For those who don’t want to shell out the worthy bucks for all those, or if you’re a completist (like me) who feels the need to maintain EVERY film the man made, this is a helpful site to bear.

Audio/Video quality varies among the films, but I’d assume them all watchable. Since early sound classics like SECRET AGENT and RICH AND Outlandish aren’t available in better condition elsewhere, I found the transfers here to be reasonably respectable. Hitch’s best tranquil film, THE LODGER, unfortunately suffers some serious disagreement issues.

The precise highlight of this status, however, is nearly an hour’s worth of Hitchcock movie trailers. Oddly enough, none of the films contained in the site is represented with a trailer. But they conceal worthy of the Master’s career from 1940 thru the slow 60’s. And the quality on the trailers is far proper to that of the films.

Bottom line: For all but the most discriminating viewer, this is a worthwhile prefer. Fair don’t inquire the quality you’d come by from the major companies.

ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS - THE Story BEGINS consists primarily of tranquil and sound films that Hitchcock directed before relocating from Britain to Hollywood in 1940. One feature that distingushes this collection from several similar budget-priced multi-packs is the near-hour’s worth of movie trailers included as a bonus. There’s also a couple of episodes from the murder/mystery anthology TV reveal that Hitchcock hosted a half century ago.

MILL CREEK box sets offer good-to-average-quality audio and video transfers of public domain material at a most reasonable stamp. Since their switch over from RAINTREE, the company ID appears for brief intervals in the lower just hand corner of the cloak.

ALFRED HITCHCOCK - THE MASTERPIECE COLLECTION is an ravishing box state of many of Hitch’s finest UNIVERSAL/MCA titles.

My daughter Lily loves Miss Spider. I rented this for her and she has watched it every day. I”m going to steal it for our vacation. The movie has all the vivid colors like the book and the speak of Brooke Shields as Miss Spider. It is not loud and it is very soft and well done. The DVD has extras that are well worth the money. David Kirk reads the book and there are also more stories. Miss Spider also talks about all her kids and their names and personalities. You can’t miss with this assume and acquire the book too.

We’ve been playing this DVD for my daughter since she was about 8 months musty and she enjoys the colors!!

They’re unprejudiced so bright that it caught her attention early on and she hasn’t let go. Now, at 16 months, she level-headed enjoys watching it while she eats on her high chair and it’s the only intention to preserve her calm for a while.

We bought this DVD with a package containing Stellaluna at Costco, and a freebie for the High Five musical group, but nothing has caught my daughter’s attention more than this DVD. Growing up with the Disney movies myself, I tried to salvage her into those movies but they’re simply tiring, for her (of course, she’s too cramped ;-)

Of course, I’ve enjoyed it, too :-) and always play it for visitors, children and adults, and they always accumulate zigzag.

My wife is always laughing at us because my small one and I objective catch into the movie and don’t pay attention to anything else, that’s how suitable it is!!

This film includes a lot of embelishment as well as fictional characters to have out the sage of Samson, taken from Judges Ch. 13 through 16, but the essence of the sage is intact. A man who loved the God of his fathers, but also the women of his enemies, the Philistines, and finds his exact strength only after he has lost everything.

Samson is portrayed as man who never cries, not even as a baby at his bris (circumcision), or his father’s death, but the feelings of lust and revenge weave continually through his epic, and there are many brutal scenes, making this film not recommended for children.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Samson and Delilah! Click Here

As Samson’s mother Mara, Diana Rigg is superb; she is a “type,” like Sarah/Isaac, Rachel/Jacob, Hannah/Samuel, and Elisabeth/John the Baptist, all barren women who miraculously give birth to a son that becomes a leader/savior of his people.

Eric Thal is effective as Samson, very great and brawny, and he looks gargantuan on horseback. He also carries off the ruin parts too, which could easily have become cartoonish.

Michael Gambon is terrific as the wily dilapidated King Hamun of the Philistines, and in the most bizarre casting, Dennis Hopper as a laid encourage general. Elizabeth Hurley’s Delilah is a cold, calculating vixen, and splendid enough to design the most of Samson’s weakness. Max Von Sydow does the narration throughout the film.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Samson and Delilah! Click Here

The Philistine interiors are very imaginitive, with their grotesque gods and massive columns, and the devastation of them well filmed. The fight with the lion is cleverly done also, with lots of grunts and roars from man and beast.

Filmed on space in Quarzazate, Morocco, it has a genuine bag by Marco Frisina, the great cinematography of Raffaele Mertes, and well paced direction by Nicolas Roeg.

“David,” “Solomon,” “Jeremiah,” and “Abraham”, are my favorites of these above average made for TV Bible stories, and this film, though not one of the best, is highly titillating with some first-rate acting. Total running time: 182 minutes.

This Italian production is not your usual Bible-epic. With striking station construct, splendid art direction and oftentimes alarming attention to period detail, this is resplendent realistic stuff. And pleasing brutal. A lot of this can be attributed to British art-house director Nicolas Roeg, who has made “Samson and Delilah” perhaps his most ambitious film to date. At 180 minutes there is nary a tiresome moment. Roeg afficianados will bask in the former Roeg flourishes: horrible edits, liberal consume of the zoom lens, intentional placement of humor and a general atmosphere of mysticism and otherworldliness. The performances are all around solid. Dennis Hopper turns in a clever and decidedly Hopper-esque performance as a reluctant Philistine general. Eric Thall, as Samson, comes across as vulnerable and humane yet entirely believable when coerced to flights of rage. His long hair doesn’t eye spurious, chalking up another high designate for this film’s realism. And Elizabeth Hurley as Delilah? Well, what more needs to be said? She really delivers with her greedy seduction of Samson and subsequent guilt. Not to mention, that in her Delilah garb, she is absolutely shapely. All in all a surprising and involving movie for Nicolas Roeg and all keen. Be distinct to hold rolling for the credits as not to miss the Ennio Morricone-scored waste titles. A short and haunting fraction that is very appropriate.

I have dual suggestions for anyone thinking of trying FRINGE. First, definitely gaze it. Second, be very, very patient. The point to eventually gets very, very generous, but it takes a very long time to catch there. I have a theory as to why that is. FOX has a tendency to micro manage many of its shows. DOLLHOUSE is an example. After Joss Whedon brought them his initial pilot, they nixed it and asked for a unique one, and then dictated that the first several episodes be standalone episodes. And guess what. In the sixth episode DOLLHOUSE became one of the best shows on TV, with multiple luscious site twists. The weakest allotment of the series? The first five stand alone episodes. I have not heard similar things about FRINGE, but given that the first half of the season tends to be almost all stand alone episodes and that they are far and away the weakest piece of the note, I suspect more FOX interference. FRINGE has been compared to THE X-FILES in many ways, but one method that they are dissimilar is that THE X-FILES standalone episodes were far gracious to FRINGE’s standalone episodes. So the viewer has to be patient for the payoff for watching the display to approach to fruition. But the payoff does finally approach. About halfway through the series a “mythology” arc emerges in a most satisfying intention, resulting in a string of deeply satisfying and inviting episodes in the second half of the season. At the ruin of the first year, it hasn’t yet quite become a vast expose, but it shows all the potential of becoming one. But perhaps only if FOX will gather out of the method and let them glean on with the chronicle.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Fringe: The Complete First Season! Click Here

The display also suffered from internal problems, the main one being casting. I came to like Anna Torv in the lead role of Agent Olivia Dunham, but she remained in many ways the show’s broken-down link. Many fans illustrious that her American accent (Torv is Australian) often feeble and especially early in the present her Aussie accent would briefly whisk in. She isn’t a dreadful actress, but neither is she - comparing the prove once again to THE X-FILES - Gillian Anderson, who was by any accounting a bright actress. When I view FRINGE, I often wonder unbiased what the demonstrate would be like with a stronger actress in the lead role. I also have not yet become sold on Joshua Jackson as Peter Bishop, but this may be far more of a spot with the writers fully integrating him into the reveal. (Though the season ends with a mountainous, large twist captivating Peter that explains a lot of the background on Walter’s account.) Other than being Walter’s son, his role in the greater contrivance of things hasn’t really become sure, though perhaps the writers envision a more crucial role in Season Two. Lance Reddick is a great physical presence, but is another actor who has perhaps been under utilized at this point.

Which leaves John Splendid as Walter Bishop. Is there a more appetizing supporting character on TV? He steals impartial about every scene he is in as the delightfully idiosyncratic and marvelously insane genius Walter Bishop. Walter is both a wonderfully written character and brilliantly portrayed by Suitable. Sci-fi series do not as a rule procure mighty recognition by the Emmys, but I would admire to scrutinize Superb net a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. Many of the expansive moments of the show’s first season revolve around Walter. And there are so many heavenly Walter moments that some go unnoticed. Among my favorites was in the show’s penultimate episode where the crew is assembled in Walter’s Harvard lab and someone says they need to turn the lights out. Walter gleefully tells them all to absorb on and he claps his hands, demonstrating that he has “the Clapper” installed in the lab. But what makes the scene so comic is a very subtle bit of business. Walter has been passing out cookies and has one of his maintain. To be able to clap, he has state his gain cookie down on the derrière of the corpse he has been examining and that is laying immediately in front of him. So while Walter is clapping his cookie is on this plain guy’s rear extinguish. Typical Walter. Not least because of Walter’s penchant for blending the investigation of the most grotesque phenomena with food. Icky disfigured corpse? Nothing like that to pick up Walter to assume about food!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Fringe: The Complete First Season! Click Here

The best thing about FRINGE is that it got better as it went along. This is a spacious label for Season Two. I blame FOX for the boring first half of the season. Maybe I’m tainted in doing that, but we know for a fact that FOX messed up the first half of DOLLHOUSE, and they’ve been known to interfere with the development of other shows. The fact is this: executive producers and their writers know more about how to do a tall display than network executives do. Maybe they feel that they need to come by their salaries by “crafting” the modern series, but generally what they do is mess things up. You hire someone like J. J. Abrams or Joss Whedon to do a series, objective find out of the map and let them do what they inevitably do better than you do.

So definitely look this present. Be patient. It starts off OK, but about halfway through the season it will really commence to kick tail. I mediate there is some core weakness in the cast, but not to the degree that it cripples the exhibit. Best of all, this explain really feels like it is going somewhere special. Perform obvious you are along for the breeze.

If you’re looking at this, I prefer you already have interest in this novel note, so I will focus this review on the blu-ray release. First things first, the camouflage has a chilly reflective casing, with two different images. Nice touch considering the convey of the display itself. It has the usual flip type case for multiple discs that we’ve seen in sets like Die Hard and Blade Runner. I actually buy the flip cases to smaller individual cases. Also has multiple images on the CD’s, the mask and the inside, nice touch. That’s about it for cosmetics.

There is over 7 hours of bonus features including the bd-live express. BD-live is a very icy feature to have, even if you aren’t utilizing it now, you might be in the reach future and it includes a single insert with instructions on how to regain started.

Special features peculiar on blu-ray include Fringe Pattern Analysis: Select a Closer Gawk at 6 steal scenes with the experts. These are actually really nice, as they focus on assume scenes, instead of unbiased some huge slow the scenes generalization that you usually regain as an “extra”. And also additional writer/production commentary available through bd-live.

Some other goodies:

Featurettes on the show’s creation, casting, the actual science late it and a titanic eye at the special effects.

There is the feature of Fringe: Deciphering the Scene Sidebars on every episode, this is an spirited add-on. I concept it was wintry.

Disected Files and Unaired scenes are here. Alot of extras eager in indiviual episodes, which I belief was spacious and any fan of the exhibit will like, as I’m certain we all have our favorites and our “not-so-favorites.”

I give this blu-ray location a fervent thumbs up for all the extras. It’s appreciated. I’m a fan of unhurried the scenes info and if you are as well, you’ll luxuriate in this status.

Now, for the gaze. I have a blu-ray player (PS3) and an HDTV and all I can say, is comely. If you want to behold what its pleasurable of…this is it. The colors practically bleed off of the shroud.

This is the best blu-ray package I’ve received since the Blade Runner release.

Overview:

Based on a video game, it comes over as The Lord of the Rings lite, complete with Orc-like Krugs, John Rhys Davies, and a guy with a Legolas hairstyle. Abominable guy Gallian (Ray Liotta) swirls around in clouds of smoke, and does his business through the eyes, ears and lips of really great Krugs who dart horses.

The only redeeming parts are the fight scenes with Statham, and even the battle scenes score unimaginative after a while. And speaking of the battle scenes, we find the infantry and the archers and so on, but why do we have ninjas and Amazonian tree women in the mix-up? (Mind you, Kristanna Loken of the L-Word looks really satisfactory wrapped in leaves)

Leelee Sobieski is underutilized as the daughter of Rhys Davies character Merick, but comes into her possess at the demolish, while Matthew Lillard does his Scooby Doo thing mainly for amusing relief.

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS)

1.A farmer named Farmer farms his land with his family

2.Marauding Krugs under the grunt of Gallian attack

3.Contemplate Farmer fight

4.Fight Farmer, fight

5.Farmer fights in vain, but lives to fight again

6.The King wants Farmer in his army, but Farmer wants to be a one-man show

7.No man is an island

8.Farmer signs up, but has problems with the armor, which doesn’t suit his image

9.Battle scenes

10.Change of leadership occurs

11.Great finale with dreadful guy proves that books have power

12.Women totally rock

Characters:

Jason Statham’s role

There once was a farmer named Farmer

Who was rugged, but really no charmer

When the Krugs came for battle

He killed them like cattle

Without ever wearing his armor

Ray Liotta’s role

There once was a power drunk mage

Who totally failed to engage

He is so badly cast

It will leave you aghast

As he stinks up his time on the stage

John Rhys Davies’ role

Though this ain’t The Lord of the Rings

We’re cheerful for the class that he brings

And though he’s on his own

There’s a Legolas clone

To benefit the return of the kings

Burt Reynolds’ role

We’re more than a slight bit hurt

To recognize what’s become of extinct Burt

More tired than mean

He’s a creaky machine

Out of gas, and now fully inert

Conclusion:

This movie’s no more than a joke

Filled with nothing but mirrors and smoke

With ninjas and magic

The plotline is tragic

And it’s NOT Uwe Boll’s master stroke.

Amanda Richards, February 23, 2008

“In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Epic” is Uwe Boll’s most ambitious film, which is probably why it’s also one of his worst. Here’s a sage that wants to be an fable fantasy but completely skimps on the legend part–the remaining fantasy is occasionally luscious at best. The battle sequences are small-scale and oddly claustrophobic, the characters are broadly drawn, and the dialogue is some of the dopiest I’ve ever heard. I notify it would have been too great to ask something more, given that this is a film adaptation of a video game. But that really isn’t saying considerable, since Boll’s filmography consists largely of video game adaptations, and almost none of them have been decent. I exempt his previous film, “Bloodrayne,” simply because it was fair mindless enough for the entertainment to sink in. I concede that “In the Name of the King” has moments of entertainment, but since most of the film is about as unintentionally campy as a B science fiction film from the 1950s, that’s not remarkable of a compliment.

Most of the problems stem from the casting choices: virtually every actor seemed like a square peg in a fable burly of round holes. Let’s start with the first billed actor, Jason Statham. He plays Farmer, so named because he feels that a man is defined by what he does; considerable like the archetypal heroes of fantasy plots, Farmer begins as a humble, land-toiling family man, only to eventually scrutinize that his destiny calls for greater things. And yes, he’s reluctant to choose share in it, since the only life he knows is planting and harvesting crops. But a personal tragedy pushes him into the need for vengeance, a need that will only be met if he joins the King’s army to fight the kingdom’s enemies. Statham could have been upright for this role had he not relied on his macho action-picture persona–Farmer is not too far removed from Frank Martin of the “Transporter” films, with his over the top fighting skills and a mutter that’s as soft and monotone as Steven Segal’s.

Next, let’s focus on Ray Liotta. He plays a inappropriate magus called Gallian, and as you might seek information from, he’s gone wrathful with power and wants complete control of the kingdom. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an actor more out of space in a film; Liotta has played some sinful characters before, but his bland American accent and under-whelming choose proves that he fair can’t play improper in a fantasy film. Gallian has a pseudo-love affair with a strong-willed young woman named Muriella (Leelee Sobieski), who doesn’t seem to realize that their relationship is a threat to the kingdom. She also doesn’t seem to realize that the chemistry between them is nonexistent, despite the fact that he’s teaching her to harness her hold magical powers. She has powers, by the intention, because her father is another magus. His name is Merick (John Rhys-Davies), and he’s a capable man who’s dedicated to the King. He also takes a special interest in Farmer, since he believes him to be a man of huge importance.

And then there’s Burt Reynolds as King Konreid. As is the case with Liotta, Reynolds is hopelessly miscast, completely lacking any regal or honorable onscreen presence. He seemed more like an afterthought, really, which is dreadful when you reflect the prominence of his role. Bloodthirsty creatures called krugs are attacking Konreid’s kingdom in droves (and it should reach as no surprise they’re under the converse control of Gallian) ; if he wants to end them, he’ll need a strong army and a tiny succor from Farmer, who has an uncanny ability to survive a battle without wearing any armor. Both Farmer and Konreid fail to realize how vital they are to each other, which is why Merick is on hand to elaborate it to them.

Matthew Lillard is the only actor in this film to manage his role accordingly. He plays Konreid’s nephew, Duke Fallow, an arrogant, scheming young man who secretly schemes with Gallian. Unlike the other actors, whose straightforward roles leave considerable to be desired, Lillard goes in the apt direction by thoroughly hamming it up. “In the Name of the King” would have been grand better had it been as over the top as Lillard’s performance. But to attempt a serious “Lord of the Rings” style fantasy at this scale is droll, and not in a expedient method, either.

There are also a number of ill-fitting side characters: Farmer’s wife, Solana (Claire Forlani), one of many taken prisoner by the krugs; Farmer’s surrogate father, Norick (Ron Pearlman), who tries for comedy relief but gets only the occasional chuckle; Elora (Kristanna Loken), a member of a forest-dwelling, war-hating tribe that swings around on rogue vines. This is about as diverse and engaging as the characterizations net.

The most involving portion of the film occurs within the final ten minutes: at their final confrontation, Gallian attempts to subdue Farmer with a cyclone of flying books. Not only was it impressive to stare at, it was also a delightfully pompous reveal of power on the section of a sorcerer. I also enjoyed a number of shots showing Gallian surrounded by swirling fog; standing there, he can notice through the eyes of a supernatural creature. But there isn’t worthy else to go on, here, which is shadowy considering how large it wanted to be. I’m obvious that “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Chronicle” will someday be regarded as a milestone of camp, an accidental cult classic screened at midnight movie theaters to the delight of buy audiences. But I wouldn’t believe my breath, if I were you.

This movie doesn’t steal the vampire-film theme too seriously…and that’s what makes it so big! There is plenty of humor thrown in to balance out the “scare” aspects. The cast is superb: the 2 Coreys do a perfect job in this film of bouncing one-liners off of one another. Kiefer Sutherland is a convincing unpleasant guy, and Jason Patric is grand as the protagonist caught between human and vampire. One of the vampires in the terrible guys’ clan - Billy Wirth, the one with the long dusky hair - was a semi-finalist on Season 1 of American Gladiator, for those of you who like useless trivia :) You also collect Alex Winter before Bill & Ted fame (albeit with a horribly erroneous weave in this one) . The only outrageous point is the female lead, who plays the character of Starr…I forget her name, she is so unremarkable, she “acts” as though she is reading upright off of a Teleprompter, and has some serious overacting on prove. But overall, this movie has everything. I’ve watched this movie so many times over the years, and it never loses its charm for me. This isn’t what I’d call a hardcore panic film - there are too many comedy aspects - but it’s definitely delicious and a lot of fun!

The Lost Boys is a classic. Long before Kiefer Sutherland was torturing terrorists he was fanging teens on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The soundtrack is haunting and unforgettable and the script is grand enough that it doesn’t have to throw in too worthy blood and gore to hold the viewer on the edge of the seat.

FYI: The ‘R’ rating assigned to Lost Boys is a bit harsh. A PG-13 would be more fair. I showed it to my pre-teen daughters with no regrets.

Say what you want about producer/director William Castle (The Tingler, 13 Ghosts, Mr. Sardonicus) but one thing was for clear…he knew how to enjoy seats in a movie theater, primarily by forcing some sort of instruct interaction between the audience and the film (at least in his alarm themed features) . In House on Timorous Hill (1959), he utilized a technique he called `Emergo’, which essentially featured a skeleton, suspended from wires, coming from the camouflage towards the audience during a specific allotment of the movie, the intent being to horror the pants off those in the theater. From what I’ve heard, it didn’t sound like many were timorous, but it didn’t really matter as Castle was a master at selling the sizzle, rather than the steak, as they say, and audiences flocked to his films…produced and directed by William Castle, the film features the merchant of menace himself Vincent Mark (The Flit, The Tingler, House of Usher) in the first of two films he made with Castle. Also appearing is Elisha Cook Jr. (Shane, The Terrorized Palace), Carolyn Craig (Giant), Richard Long (Ma and Pa Kettle), Carol `homina homina’ Ohmart (Spider Baby), Alan Marshal (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and Julie Mitchum (Edge of Hell), sister of actor Robert Mitchum.

Price plays Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire who, along with his wife Annabelle (Ohmart), has thrown together an absorbing dinky party though-provoking five, seemingly random strangers gathering at a paralyzed house with ten thousand dollars to each who dare halt through the night. In attendance, along with Frederick and his wife, is Watson Pritchard (Cook), whose brother, one of the previous owners, was murdered within the house, Lance Schroeder (Long), a test pilot, Dr. David Trent (Marshal), a psychiatrist, Nora Manning (Craig), a typist, and Ruth Bridgers (Mitchum), a newspaper columnist. Seems all have agreed to play Frederick’s microscopic game for one reason, they need the dough, and if some crazy rich dude is willing to portion with his green for such a seemingly easy task, what the hay, honest? Well, the guests advance, introductions are made, and Frederick gives them the rotund lowdown. The secluded house is like a fortress (steel doors and bars on the windows) in that once they’re locked in (at midnight, to be true), there’s no getting out until the caretakers come the next morning. Also, there’s no electricity or telephones, and the nearest neighbors are well beyond yelling distance. After a tour of the house, highlighting where various repulsive events occurred (including a visit to the acid vat in the cellar…man, this situation has everything), a few drinks, and some scares (the ghosts seem to have a thing for Nora), Fredrick passes out some party favors in the develop of loaded handguns (nothing like being drunk and armed), not that they’d do anyone remarkable capable if there are ghosts out and about…anyway, midnight is coming so if anyone wants to gash out of this ghoulish bag together, they’d better win while the getting’s satisfactory…

While not my popular Castle feature (that goes to The Tingler), House on Fearful Hill is unexcited a hoot and a half for all of its campy, good-natured fun. The one thing this film has going for it, above and beyond everything else, is Vincent Sign. No matter how evil the feature was (which wasn’t the case here), Tag always brought with him a genuine sense of class and sophistication to the proceedings, especially lawful of the number of Poe based films he and Roger Corman made throughout the 1960s for American International Pictures. The absolute best parts of this movie for me occur early on as Price’s character is interacting with his wife, and we discover the pair have an engaging hate/hate relationship…here’s an example of their often despicable and insinuating banter they pick in slack closed doors…

Fredrick: Of all my wives you’re least generous…

Annabelle: But unexcited alive.

Here’s another bit…

Frederick: Do you remember the fun we had when you poisoned me?

Annabelle: Something you ate, the doctor said.

Frederick: Yes, arsenic on the rocks…

There are a few more righteous exchanges between Trace and Ohmart, agreeable alone of seeing this film. As for the rest of the performers, I had no genuine complaints. Elisha Cook Jr.’s character did pick up on my nerves after awhile, with his constant dour outlook punctuated by his persistent `doom and gloom’ predictions. Drink some more booze, you rummy…seriously, all this guy did was talk about how the ghosts were going to advance and purchase them all away. Perhaps this attitude was assisted by his excessive alcohol intake, but really, what’s the point of accepting an invitation to utilize a night at a house you bear you won’t near out of alive? The money? Won’t do you mighty fine if’n you’re expressionless, fool. If I was in that house I probably would have shot him objective to be rid of him. At least I learned one thing…never invite Elisha Cook Jr. to your party and ply him with lots of booze as he’ll turn into a right poison pill. I did like Ms. Ohmart, and not fair because she was a smoking babe with a expansive rack, but because she held her enjoy with Trace, even if it was for unbiased a handful of scenes. If you’ve got a hankering to watch more of her, and you like ookie dismay features, you should really check out another film she appeared in called Spider Baby (1968), featuring Lon Chaney Jr. There are a few, minor scares scattered throughout the film (a crusty crone, a disembodied head or two), but nothing that will earn you soil yourself…some scenes will perform you snicker, though, like the one where Pritchard chucks a humdrum rat into the acid vat, if only to show the acid is really acid. After some bubbling effects, a fully articulated rat skeleton bobs to the surface, indicating to those watching it truly is the true deal. Yes sir, that be some noteworthy acid…the movie may not be powerful for scares, but it does have plenty of atmosphere created by Castle’s direction, groovy, cobweb laden dwelling pieces, spooky music, and usage of the Ennis Brown House in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, for the exterior shots.

It seems this film has fallen into the public domain (i.e. the copyright expired), as I sight there are a number of DVD releases by various companies. I can’t protest for those other releases, but the one I occupy, set out by Warner Brothers (it has a mammoth headshot of Note in the lower honest hand corner and Ohmart in a nightgown being menaced by a disfigured hand in the upper left), looks exceptionally satisfactory, and features both the fullscreen and widescreen formats, along with a advantageous Dolby Digital mono audio track. The only extras included are a theatrical trailer for the film and subtitles in both English and French.

By the method, this movie saw a remake of the same titled, released in 1999, oozing with high tech special effects. It was decent enough, but I composed liked the fresh better.

William Castle at his gimmicky best! A Classic, spooky Gloomy and White, with deliciously devilish Vincent Heed as millionaire with a bored gold-digger wife. She wants a Halloween party with her friends, Effect tosses a party all proper, but not with the people of her choosing. He offers $10,000 dollars to five stranger if they will join him and his wife in spending Halloween night in a truly unnerved house. One of the 5 is a young Elisha Cooke, family of the used owners who died in the house, and he leads them on a slay tour. To jazz things up, Ticket passes out “party favors” - guns. And it’s a bustle to regain out whether Mark of his wife will be the last one standing. This movie is a grandfather of nearly every clichés, blooding dripping from the ceiling, dusky mysterious corridors, a witchy woman floating around and vanishing - and the topper that organ music!! This is more like a Halloween Fun house slouch than a movie! Tag is campy and has stout fun with the role, with tidy lines, especially when fussing with his less than delighted wife.

Castle originally devised this movie with “special touches” for the audiences, like ghost on wires gloating through the audience of people in costume sitting down beside you to enhance the fun house feel.

Just dumb fun and a wee chase down memory lane.

‘Surf’s Up’ is one of the best consuming films I have ever seen or at least in the CGI era of animation. The Mockumentary style and unbelievable animation withhold the narrative new, droll and astounding to leer at! Even if your not a fan of enchanting films, this one may change your mind. The film also has a hip and appropriate soundtrack. The DVD transfer is fine and this is a must behold movie!…..Cowabunga!

When trailers for this movie were being shown in theaters, I groaned and felt that this would be a film riding on the success of the unbelievable Pleased Feet film. I was positive that it wouldn’t stand on it’s acquire, that it had no soul to it, it was objective going to be fluff.

And I was proven dismal, and I’m ecstatic for that. Surf’s Up really makes itself stand on it’s have, it truly is an individual in the penguin movie crowd. It doesn’t NEED to straggle on Pleased Feet’s coattails, it creates its fill exquisite world and really stays strong throughout the (sadly short) film.

I was struck with how exquisite the scenery was, and how alive every character was. It’s completely extraordinary how dependable and believable everyone is, and that is thanks to the documentary style, without a doubt. The documentary style is a just asset to this film’s heart and soul. You’re not unprejudiced watching events unfold, you feel like this actually happened, the filming, the spot, the Pen Gu contest, that they’re living and breathing. It’s really impressive.

I watched Surf’s Up three times while it was in the theaters, and I can’t wait to absorb the DVD. Don’t listen to yourself if you deem it’s objective another penguin movie, it isn’t.

Beautiful, stunning movie, as Cody says “You’ll wanna explore it over and over!”

I’m very familiar with this season and would like to offer up a few of my well-liked moments. This last season for Belushi and Aykroyd, along with the third season, includes the troupe’s finest hours.

Season 4 highlights:

1.Rolling Stones - You may be slightly disappointed by this season-opener if you’re a huge Stones fan. There is no opening monologue from them, which could have been enthralling. Those duties are instead helmed by NYC mayor (actually, I mediate he was objective campaigning at the time), Ed “How Am I Doing” Koch. Jagger shows up as the main guest in a very humorous Tom Snyder bit, and Ron Wood & Charlie Watts are patrons of the always-classic Olympia Café. As for the music, it comes in one vast chunk, as opposed to the usual two segments. Somewhat disappointingly, the boys form songs exclusively from the then newly-released “Some Girls” album (”Shattered”, “Beast of Burden” and “Good”) . Amazingly, their biggest hit from that album, “Miss You”, is ignored. Worst of all, Mick’s inform is in unusually poor form; he sounds strained, hoarse and froggy throughout. My biggest - indeed oddest - memory of this episode’s novel airing was the talk that followed at school on Monday. “Did you perceive Mick tongue kiss Keith Richards!? ” As time passed and my memory got sketchier, I belief this may have been urban story, but after getting a copy a few years ago, Mick does actually - if not “tongue kiss” - lick Ron Wood’s closed mouth, and tries a similar proceed on Keith, who seems to skittish away from it. Incidentally, this episode also includes the titanic Nerds “refrigerator repairman” sketch, also the subject of some talk at school that week!

2.Other musical highlights - Devo’s bizarre rendition of “Satisfaction” looks as wild today as it did then, beret-wearing Ricki Lee Jones’ semi-forgotten hit “Chuck E.’s in Esteem” recalls the beat poets she emulated, and Belushi’s Samurai makes a hilarious cameo during Frank Zappa’s fusion-jazz-tinged “Rollo.” This is one of the strongest musical seasons, in fact. The Doobie Brothers, James Taylor, The Grateful Tedious, Kate Bush, The Talking Heads, The Blues Brothers and Van Morrison all set aside in superior performances. And then there’s the once-trademark variety, which we also salvage with old-time jazzman Eubie Blake, reggae maestro Peter Tosh and blues man Delbert McClinton.

3.Tape Store - One of my favorites because it doesn’t play for straight laughs, but serio-comedy instead, something completely unknown on the modern prove. Fred Willard is the overly-proud, overly-optimistic owner of a tape store….”no, not the audio kind, the sticky kind!” Some patrons are cruel, others are sympathetic & supportive. Like the “Reduce the Lounge Singer” and the often-overlooked “Knights of Columbus”, quieter, and drier reality-based skits like these showcased the astonishing range of the cast, and didn’t rely on the narcissistic one-joke, one-character premise.

4.Carrie Fisher - What Star Wars geek could forget this appearance! Not only was the country level-headed gripped in the current Star Wars Mania, but Fisher showed up for the monologue in her Princess Leia costume, buns and all! She looks as helpful as she did in the film, if not even more sparkly. The following skit is a very laughable Star Wars themed take-off of the Annette & Frankie “Beach” movies from the `60s. As a kid, I was most panicked by another skit wherein Fisher smokes pot with her date (Belushi) . It actually a comic parody of the Lauds, the noted subjects of “An American Family”. This one, however, honest talks “loud”.

5.The Pepsi Syndrome - One of the most finely constructed skits I consider the point to ever did. Everyone does their job here, from Baba Wawa to Franken & Davis’ hilarious mime routine. It’s spoof without being imitation, political without being obtuse. Again, one of the vast things about the Not Ready for Prime Time Players was their ability to load up skits with a variety of different gags, not relying on the repetition of one (I stress this point a second time because it’s one of the biggest killers of the note today) .

6.The Unpleasant News Bees - Double entendres abound as the Bees (rarely seen by this point) obtain the Unpleasant News Bears treatment. Teammates tease another boy (Belushi) for “buzzing off”. I don’t want to spoil it beyond that. The presence of the tremendous Walter Matthau, reprising his Buttermaker role, gives this one some comedic weight and authenticity.

7.Superhero Party - Margot Kidder, current off the heels off of “Superman” success, puts in a solid, St. Partick’s Day themed indicate. As someone of Irish descent, I’ve always remembered this one fondly (maybe all those Chicagoans at SNL had something to do with it!) . Highlights include the Celtic stylings of The Chieftains, and the hysterical Superhero Party, hosted by Lois Lane, naturally. Partygoers are offended at the bathroom odor left slow by Belushi’s Hulk, who nonchalantly remarks, “hey, it ain’t supposed to smell like roses.”

8.The French Chef - SNL clearly drew inspiration from Monty Python, especially in these earlier seasons. Their awestruck admiration was positive whenever Michael Palin or Eric Lazy hosted. Earlier episodes hosted by them include British-themed skits as well as the spilling of one skit into the next, a accepted Python technique. Here, Dan Aykroyd may be channeling host Inactive with his classic Julia Childs imitation. The ridiculous amount of blood-letting that ensues recalls Python’s “Sam Peckinpah’s Salad Days” sketch.

There’s more, but if you’ve read this far, I’m not definite what you’re waiting for. Haven’t you pre-ordered yet?

SNL aged to be the most inovative and amusing prove of the tedious 70’s. It reinvented the variety expose with a “supporting cast” and a rotating guest host every week. They knew how to invent a amusing pieces and preserve it engaging forward. Every reveal was not a masterpiece but the hits were more than the misses.

This season had the two best episodes ever with the two most unlikely hosts - Cicley Tyson and Maureen Stapleton.

The following are a list of the 20 guest hosts and musical guests:

Rolling Stones

Fred Willard / Devo

Frank Zappa

Steve Martin / Van Morrison

Buck Henry / The Greatful Dead

Carrie Fisher / The Blues Brothers

Walter Matthau

Eric Sluggish / Kate Bush

Elliot Gould / Peter Tosh with Mick Jagger

Michael Palin / The Doobie Brothers

Cicley Tyson / Talking Heads - This is the best episode ever. It starts Garrett Morris opening the note in wander as Cicley. And gets even better when she appears on Gloomy Perspectives. She and Garrett visit the wide butts.

Ricky Nelson / Judy Collins

Kate Jackson / Delbert McClinton

Gary Busey / Rick Danko and Paul Butterfield / Eubie Blake and Gregory Hines

Margot Kidder / The Chieftans

Richard Benjamin / Rickey Lee Jones

Milton Berle / Ornette Coleman

Michael Palin / James Taylor

Maureen Statpleton / Linda Rondstat and Pheobe Snow - Maureen has a titanic skit with Lorraine Newman as the stereotypical Jewish mother.

Buck Henry / Bette Middler

Again, this is when SNL was comic, so prepare to do something than rarely happens when watching SNL today - laugh til it hurts.
