There’s no denying it: BCI Eclipse had some amazing intelligent titles that risked becoming forever lost to the archives of time once the company was forced to shut its doors this past year. Fortunately Mill Creek Entertainment, which by the diagram is distributed by BCI’s parent company, Navarre, has acquired the rights to bring many of BCI’s titles to the home market once more. Even more impressive collected is that these sets will be packaged up and sold as complete box sets (rather than individual season releases) .

In case you’re impartial tuning in, no this isn’t the Filmation version of the demonstrate so many of us lift with warm fuzzies from our youth. This is in fact the third (and most novel) provocative iteration of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Produced for Cartoon Network by Mike Young

Productions, this version ran from 2002 until 2004 where it went for two chubby seasons (26 in the first season, 13 in the second) . Along the design it managed to snag a very well deserved Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing (2004) .

While there are few who could argue successfully that anything could replace the modern Filmation series, Mike Young Productions managed to occupy all of the elements that made the fresh so successful and to bring them up to original standards of animation quality, sound work, and script writing. As a result the mythos had been brought to an entirely current generation of fans while simultaneously exquisite fans of the new.

Without giving too powerful away (I dislike spoilers personally), I will say that the origins of Snake Mountain will initiate to unfold in the second-half of the first season in addition to the complete origin of the Dusky Hemisphere which imprisons Skeletor and his minions. Modern characters are plentiful as well and have some slick back-story efforts, which execute even the unique Mattel toys a lot more spruce. Among the notables includes the stories of Two-Bad, Cobra Kahn, Cyclone, Roboto, Moss Man, Zodak, and Stinkor. Many of these characters were never fully fleshed out in the fresh prove (if they appeared at all) and would have remained only in the imaginations of those who played with the toys if not for the spectacular exertion here. We are also treated to a couple of current looks for He-Man himself including an amped up version of he and Skeletor in combat and his ever impressive winter gear which includes a flowing fur cape and a heavy battle ax.

The Snakemen element introduced in the first season develops into sheer brilliance in the second (and unfortunately final) season! Not to insinuate that the Masters didn’t have their hands fat as it was with Skeletor and his minions, this time around the threats to peace and justice approach in from all angles in the produce of the Skeletor and company, the Snake Men, and the Contaminated Horde! Yes, you read that correctly- She-Ra’s arch nemesis, Hordak, who fair so happens to have been Skeletor’s mentor, shows up in Season 2 within Skeletor’s origin yarn that finally ties all of the loose threads of Mattel’s franchise together once and for all.

I often like to wonder what ground Mike Young’s team would have covered had the present continued. Would they have expanded to include He-Man’s sister (She-Ra’s) fable arc? Could have writer Larry DeTillio revisited some of his wise dragon influence? A shame that we’ll probably never know.

All in all, the present simply continued to gain upon the foundation first position by Filmation in the 1980s and thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment, can be yours in its entirety for the cost of each of the single season releases.

to poor this had to raze while it was doing some really superior narrative telling not to mention wonderful art work, tons of action, it almost seems as some sort of mystery as why this fell off the face of the radar abruptly. Why would such a qualified cartoon be pulled off the air? Anyhow this is genuine for kids and adults (assuming they grew up with the unusual) it reminds me of the Vow cats simply with more characters, it would be awesome if the people who did this somehow resurrected the thundercats in the same modern-he-man style. One minor gripe is the fact that prince Adam must be himself before turning into he-man i net this character whiny, wimpy, and unneeded for the point to.

Why fair not have He-Man available at all times? unbiased like the x-men you don’t discover Wolverine having to ‘become somebody’ it was edifying in the first personally i feel it was unnecessary to be in this unusual version though i can understand why they extinct it because it gives the stories more longevity without Adam, the present would be overly short and the memoir element would be monotonous. Anyway he’s a minor irritant to me but i like the demonstrate and the best fraction of the series is the destroy with a definite message that most of if not all other toons these do not have. Only g.i. joe, thundercats, transformers, and He-man to my knowledge have a special message at the waste of the episode i feel this is a agreeable upright for kids, why they do not achieve these in cartoons anymore i do not know. Overall an generous station to add to your collection. If it was not for bawl baby prince adam, it would be 5 star.

Sir Wilfrid Robarts (played by Charles Laughton) is renown as one of the greatest barristers in England, but his failing health has placed him at the mercy of doctors, and in the clutches of an overbearing nurse (Elsa Lancaster) . However, when he is introduced to Leonard Vole (Tyrone Power), an innocent man on his procedure to the gallows, Sir Wilfrid decides to risk his health and expend his jurisprudential skills to set aside Vole. A wrinkle in the case is Vole’s surprisingly harsh wife (Marlene Dietrich), but fortunately a wife can never be weak as a watch for the prosecution. [Black-and-white, released in 1957, with a running time of 1:56.]

This movie is based on Agatha Christie’s shortstory of the same title, which was first published in the 1933 book The Hound of Death and Other Stories, and is nothing short of a triumph! The three main actors of the movie (Laughton, Power and Dietrich) achieve on a unbelievable performance, making this movie enthralling from launch to accomplish. Plus, as a fan of John Mortimer’s Rumpole of the Bailey books, I must say that I liked the setting. (I do acquire that any Rumpole fan will also fancy this movie.)

So, if you are eager in courtroom drama, classic movies and immense acting, and want a movie that is all three, then you must gain this DVD!

Although this film is filled with a bevy of generous actors and actresses, and although he did play the portion of Gracchus in SPARTACUS a couple of years later, and an profitable supporting role in Relate AND CONSENT a couple of years after that, this is the last truly broad performance in the career of perhaps the greatest character actor film has seen. Charles Laughton was in no sense a leading man: obsese, unattractive, unathletic, awkward. He nonetheless managed to set aside together an unbelievable career. Discover FOR THE PROSECUTION was released in 1957, but until that moment, the 1950s had not been kind to Laughton, whose greatest success came in the 1930s and 1940s. He had directed the powerful THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER in 1955, but his acting parts in the decade, apart from David Lean’s HOBSON’S CHOICE, were for the most section undistinguished and not among the finest of his career. Gaze FOR THE PROSECUTION is Laughton’s ravishing return and, because of declining health, last astronomical role. If Gawk FOR THE PROSECUTION had nothing else to recommend it, Laughton’s performance would acquire it well, well worth seeing.

Luckily, this film has far more than Laughton to recommend it. Ironically, it was also the last gargantuan role for Tyrone Power, for whom Perceive was also a piece of a comeback (he also excelled in THE SUN ALSO RISES) . I have to say, for anyone who had seen Power in films in the 1940s, his physical appearance in 1957 is frightful. Considerable like Errol Flynn, he had lived a hard life, and it shows. He would die of a heartattack a year after this performance, and looks powerful older than 43 years former. Nonetheless, the worthy thing about Power is that while not a particularly expansive actor during the heyday of his career, when he looks carried him from role to role, reach the extinguish of his life he grew considerably as an actor. Inspect FOR THE PROSECUTION is one of his better performances, by far. Unlike Laughton and Power, both aging and in terrible health, but similar to both in that the 1950s had up to that point not been one of her most active decades, Marlene Dietrich appears barely to have obsolete since the 1930s. The kinds of parts she was best grand for were far too subversive for the staid 1950s. Her natural cynicism and sexuality were far too threatening at that time even for the darkest of film noir. So, Contemplate FOR THE PROSECUTION was something of a comeback (or the continuation of a comeback in the case of Power) for the three principles. The cast was rounded out by some stellar characters actors, including the always astounding Una O’Connor, the frequently villanous Henry Daniell (though not in this one), and John Williams (who had played Audrey Hepburn’s chaffeur father in Wilder’s SABRINA, playing Laughton’s law partner in this one) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Witness For the Prosecution! Click Here

Unlike the three leads, Billy Wilder was not suffering from any kind of lull in his career when he made this film. He had, first as a screenwriter and then as a director, been marching from triumph to triumph for the previous twenty years, and would continue to do so for another ten years. The movie was untypical Wilder, however. Along with Preston Sturges, Wilder is arguably the greatest writer of comedy scripts in the history of film (he had cowriters, but their important function was to factual his Germanicisms, to polish his rough English; Wilder supplied the ideas and action) . In Search For FOR THE PROSECUTION, however, although adapting an Agatha Christie fresh, and adding a tall number of Wilderian touches, he largely is working from someone else’s work. Wilder virtually always wrote completely new stories.

A lot of people savor the residence of this one, and especially the twists, but I have to say that I bag this somewhat artificial, and some of the least bewitching parts of the film. What I do delight in is the interplay between the various characters, the chemistry between the actors and actresses, the dozens of slight touches and transitions that Wilder makes while working within the limitations of someone else’s fable.

But most of all, this film is big because Charles Laughton was able to collect one last, immense role before his career came to an demolish.

Vandread isn’t really all that original, in fact, having made its Japanese broadcast debut plan aid in 2000, one might go as far as to say it’s stunning darn old-fashioned. But like most Gonzo titles, it’s survived the test of time over and over again. Funimation’s novel box plot release of the property represents the third time the DVDs have been released to the North American market; first through Pioneer, then repackaged and re-released from Geneon. Suffice it to say, tales with this kind of staying power rarely come this region undeservingly.

Funimation’s release consists of all 26 episodes, which were in fact two seasons (Vandread & Vandred The Second Stage), across four discs. Housed in an fair cardboard slipcase, the four discs advance in a pair of artistic thin packs. Total runtime comes in at 600 minutes even and the reveal wears a very conservative 13 & Up rating. Conservative because the reveal really is marvelous to viewers of all ages place for a few sexual innuendos and extremely-light cussing. There is no nudity to utter of and while death is presented on occasion, it is never graphic or overly violent.

The location presents the usual dub & sub dialog options; An English dub, recent Japanese audio track (with English subtitles is so desired) .

Classifying the reveal isn’t reach as easy as typing out its hard stats however, as I’m lickety-split discovering. Technically it’s a mecha entry on tale of its exhaust of robotics throughout. In fact the very term Vandread is derived from the thought of the physically conjoining of a fighter robot called a Van-Type and a space-fighter craft known as a Apprehension. When combined, the two craft become a much giant robot that can range in appearance from a hulking, oversize-gun carrying humanoid to a metallic crab surrounded by orbiting weapon-spheres depending upon the combination of the ships eager.

However, and unlike most robot shows, Vandread is as worthy a space-opera as it is a science fiction/ action part. It’s site in the distant future in a Universe where mankind has expanded his come of population to include multiple planets and residence stations. However, and what makes Vandread original, the demonstrate literally opens with a propaganda film designed to frighten an all-male populous with the fact that all women are, in fact, monsters.

See it turns out that in the future, thanks to cloning techniques, male and female copulation (or even cohabitation for that matter) is no longer principal to continue the accelerate. As such both sexes are only vaguely aware of the other’s existence. Yes it’s a current thought and clear it lends to Vandread’s individuality as a whole, but the same-sex reproduction ideals are a bit sketchy (if not homosexual promoting) .

The gigantic gag, at least early on anyway, works off the idea of three males becoming entangled with an all-female pirate ship before being transported, via a space-warp, to a distant galaxy to avoid annihilation. The core of the chronicle follows this ship’s (the Nirvana) voyage aid home while paying special attention to the daily drama stirred up thanks to the differences between the sexes. No, not those differences, but rather the awkwardness and feelings of passion that only be achieved through the venerable “opposites attract” idea. It’s immature, it’s humorous, it’s sometimes annoying but Vandread makes distinct to counteract the goofiness with a steady-dose of CG rendered action sequences that mild own up even after all these years.

The visuals are far more solid then they have any correct to be considering the show’s vintage. What’s that, you say there are shows far older (Gundam Cruise or Macross for example) that mild sight nice so what’s the tremendous deal? Well hold in mind that suitable around the time that Vandread was created, the world was making a collective depart away from standard hand-drawn cells and painted backgrounds to an all out computer generated imaging overload. That’s attractive and marvelous, but many early efforts of the practice suffered from petite hardware capabilities, stiff animation and bad texturing. Somehow Vandread ducks and weaves through this minefield of pitfalls by combining a beautifully vibrant color pallet in the standard animation with CG inspired exterior backgrounds and robot models. Determined, the process has been refined in the nine years since but that isn’t to say Vandread suffers any as a result.

Pacing can best be described as all over the plot as the early episodes were brutally formulaic and relied far too heavily upon the whole “men and women meeting for the first time will be laughable” gimmick. Additionally most of the first season is structured more as a succession of stand-alone episodes than a single ongoing yarn. This trend degenerates to grander account arcs as the explain progresses and by the middle of the Second Stage; Vandread feels more like a former mecha anime entry.

In my notion the disappear away from the cuteness and attempts at slapstick to the slightly more psychologically bewitching plots of the Second Stage was a step in the fair direction. So powerful so in fact that I almost feel like the series probably would have hit its spin in the third or fourth season had it lasted that long.

As a whole the prove suffers a bit in terms of confliction scope, as the enemies our cast frequently engages throughout the entire series are never really known as anything other than “the enemy”. Worse composed, they appear out of nowhere, win whipped, then live to attack another day. Their motives are never sure, nor is their presence ever fully justified. Other detractors along the design include an over-the-top (and quite detestable) lead male character, and overly naive lead female character, and what can only be described as a robotic version of He-Man’s annoying court jester, Orko.

The soundtrack is especially well done with a reoccurring techno number that’s simply infectious. I had the pleasure of enjoying the situation though a 5.1 surround sound speaker status and found that the rolling bass riff coupled with a high ruin of synthesized horns flawlessly.

In conclusion Vandread is certainly not for everyone but manages to survive the test of time thanks to its unwavering (if at times, forceful) charm. While it rarely gets the credit it deserves, the explain certainly paved the draw for many robot-based series that would follow (titles like Gravion and Godannar) . This latest DVD release from the masters of quality at Funimation assures that Vandread will continue to spread its charm with the presentation values it deserves.

This series was very reminiscent of series like Trigun, Rotund Metal Awe, and Outlaw Star nothing to serious but titillating, dramatic, and laughable enough to be very addictive. The first thing you have to realize is not to rob most of this series seriously though if you’re looking for a hardcore dramatic series like Ghost In The Shell, Akira, or the like than this series won’t be for you, while it has spot mechas battles and some drama for most of the series it’s mostly light-hearted for the first season. The launch of Vandread Second Stage does become a minute more dramatic and serious though especially with the story-arc of what the people of Earth have done to the human colonies in site for their believe agenda. The main status of the series is that after a century or so of the male/female genders being separate and living on different worlds they for whatever reason have started fighting one another for resources and personal agendas. The stories on both sides on what the other genders are like also earn the series very comic, as when you hear the narrative on the male home-world at how demonic the females are and how they will eat your organs and are impartial horrific. Thus begins the awkward stride of three males trapped on a ship of a multitude of beautiful females after a battle between the genders goes chaotic and causes a fusion of the male and female region ships. The cast have a great array of funny situations that accomplish for a respectable laugh throughout the indicate and the characters are hilarious as you glimpse as they try to interact between the genders bumbling along sometimes. The just cute couple of the series for me were Hibiki Tokai a third grade citizen on his world who basically was honest a lowly factory worker when he got trapped aboard the ship because he boasted he could bring abet a vanguard, and Dita Liebely a bubbly female pilot of the ship who wants to contact her first alien and since she’s never seen a male before she sees Hibiki as the first alien she’s contacted. The video is sure and arresting so no complaints and the audio was also expedient the cast for both the Japanese/English were marvelous as well. Again though like the novel releases from Funimation the region is four dvds keep into two thinpack dvd cases and than into a paper sleeve, the extras aren’t grand objective the standard textless intro/ending songs and some trailers but for the note mild not abominable. So if you like comical action drama sci-fi animes here’s a splendid one to seek at for you anime collection…

(In fact 4.5 Stars) Though ‘Howl’s Sharp Castle’ (’Hauru-no Ugoku Shiro’) may not be Miyazaki’s best film, it is peaceful far more appetizing than many other films, Japanese or American, spellbinding or not. I for one very great enjoyed watching it, and I esteem the film for its captivating characters and the rich textures of the designs, especially the fantasy world itself where witchcraft and humans’ mundane works can be seen side by side. And the titular six-legged castle that really walks among the wilderness is something you never inspect except in his films.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Howl’s Moving Castle! Click Here

Miyazaki’s modern film is based on a book of the same title written by Diana Wynne Jones. The film’s yarn is told from the viewpoint of a 18-year-old girl Sophie, who is working at a milliner’s shop every day. But she can hear the sound of bloody battles from the distance, and it is determined that this exquisite country, where witches and wizards live among humans, is going to peek another war sooner or later.

But apparently Sophie is level-headed leading an ordianary life until her uneventful routine days are suddenly broken by one accidental meeting with tainted ‘Witch of the Destroy,’ who turns her into an venerable woman with a curse. Seeking for her spot to live, Sophie goes to the wilderness where, the townspeople say, a young wizard named Howl wanders. In fact, Sophie encounters Howl’s Gripping Castle in the foggy moutainside, and she decides to hop in. There, forbidden to talk about her curse, she starts a original life with young and fine Howl, who speaks to her qualified like a prince, but at times acts like a scandalous child.

[MIYAZAKI’S Admire STORY] You will be impressed with many improbable and vivid images created by Miyazaki. You might salvage an anti-war message deep in the film’s memoir, but will come by the romantic relations between Sophie and Howl is the most touching and impressive section of the film. Sophie’s romantic feeling towards Howl is expressed in a recent intention (which I don’t bid here), and Miyazaki, as usual, is very valid at drawing the character of this independent heroine. One animated thing is, probably this is the first case in which Miyazaki attempted to present a adore yarn in his films. And a kiss too.

I must say that not everything works in ‘Howl’s Involving Castle.’ I haven’t read the novel book, but it is distinct that Miyazaki made changes. Not that I’m blaming them. But the yarn is sometimes told too hurriedly, and when you believe something (actions or whatever) will inaugurate, it ends abruptly. Howl’s character is plump of contradictory traits, that’s honorable, but his complicated personality could have been more effective and convincing with more detailed episodes about, say, his mentor magician (and politician) Madam Suliman or Witch of the Slay.

(If I am not inaccurate, ‘Howl’s Engrossing Castle’ is a rare case for Miyazaki who prefers to employ his maintain stories, and this is the first time he adapts someone else’s myth in 15 years, last time being ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service. But ‘Kiki’s’ chronicle written by Eiko Kadono is not long — I know, I read — while ‘Howl’s’ record is, I reflect, distinguished longer. Maybe these facts have soemthing to do with my complaint.)

Greatly helped by Jo Hisaishi’s ravishing net, ‘Howl’s Inviting Castle’ is corpulent of imaginative power, with one strong heroine you can recount to (though she is 90-years-old), plus memorable supports including fire damon Calcifer, (not a unpleasant guy at all), and ubiquitous Prince Turnip who always appears at the good moment. Flawed, to be distinct, but savory fantasy legend with a healthy amount of humor and lots of imagination.

The review above refers to the novel Japanese version. I know the English version includes the voices of Christian Bale, Jean Simmons, and Billy Crystal, but as I have never seen the version, I did not talk about them. Smooth, as Mr. Miyazaki is not likely to approve any changes done to his films, I hope what I saw in Japan, you will search for in your country.

Not a lot of directors would be gallant enough to acquire on a savor chronicle between a girl-turned-old-lady and a wizard missing a important organ. But Oscar-winning Hayao Miyazaki tackles a modern fantasy realm in in “Howl’s Provocative Castle” — namely, that of fantasy dowager Diana Wynne Jones.

Sophie (Emily Mortimer) is a dull, heart-broken young woman working in a milliner’s shop — lightened only slightly by a mysterious wizard who rescues her one day. But then the spoiled Witch of the Kill (Lauren Bacall) comes into the shop, and casts a spell on her, turning her into an stale primitive lady (Jean Simmons) . Sophie ends up wandering into the Provocative Castle, a chicken-legged chaos machine, and encountering the sexy if childish wizard Howl (Christian Bale), smart-aleck fire demon Calcifur (Billy Crystal), and preteen apprentice Markl (Josh Hutcherson) .

Sophie appoints herself the cleaning lady and starts whipping the castle into shape, trying to deal with Howl’s temper tantrums and the war brewing all around them, and trying to cure her strange curse. But when she runs an errand to a castle in Howl’s spot, she finds that her recent boss has some unsuitable problems of his fill — including his missing heart, and impending transformation into a monster.

Don’t ask considerable fidelity to the novel; Miyazaki takes plenty of liberties with the narrative. As a result, it feels more like his anecdote than Jones’, with all the earmarks he usually has — blobby monsters, shimmering rural settings, intense anti-war messages, peculiar machines, and a Jules-Verne atmosphere of Victorian technology. But “Howl’s Keen Castle” is very different from the others Miyazaki has done, since he kept the British flavour of the new book.

It’s also different because it’s a esteem record — and a surprisingly un-cheesy one. In less skilled hands, having Howl say “I finally found something worth protecting. It’s you” would seem inane, but Miyazaki keeps it brief and grand. And even though Sophie looks elderly through most of the movie, Miyazaki never falls into trite observations about inner beauty. He honest lets the anecdote command us that.

The animation is virtually flawless, from the chaotic absurdity Absorbing Castle to the breathtaking aerial battles with the bird-man Howl. Limited details are everywhere, from painted ceiling beams to clarify doorknobs. But there are also tranquil, animated moments, such as Sophie attempting to houseclean the entire Keen Castle. Calcifur is the one sore point — he’s not done badly, but he looks vaguely artificial. I inform a fire demon is hard to animate.

There are a few flaws, in that the myth could have faded a bit more fleshing out — at times the relationships between the characters are sketchy. Not powerful detail, for example, is given about sorceress Suliman (Blythe Danner) and her relationship to Howl, or why she’s so peeved at him. Or about the nature of Howl’s increasingly perilous magic and why he did what he did to lose his heart.

While there are the usual “howls” that the English dubbing is nefarious to the current Japanese, the assorted mumble actors did exceptional work in the American version. Christian Bale and Billy Crystal are the major standouts — Crystal is comical and dry as usual, while Bale is sultry, sexy, soft-spoken and deep. Except, of course, when Howl runs around the house shrieking that his hair is ruined.

“Howl’s Gripping Castle” moves on a dinky too hastily in places, but it’s unruffled a breathtaking, romantic, radiant flow. A unbelievable fable, told by one of the few filmmakers who could do it justice.

Gunner February,2008

I bought this movie because I’ve been alive to in the mystery of the Vast Duchess Anastasia since I was a kid, not because I have rugrats. This movie was bright. Anya is a spunky heroine; Dimitri is a scrappy hero; they have a sweet and surprisingly adult romance and the state is more realistic (except for the ridiculous villain Rasputin) than expected. There is a handsome, unfortunate song called “Once Upon a December” that the amnesiac Anya sings in the empty palace as ghosts approach out of paintings to dance with her. This movie isn’t historically upright, but it’s a satisfying fairy fable — the blueprint we wish it had been.

Kite learns that Gon has the same abilities as Ging and wants to learn more about this young boy and discovering that Gon, may be the son of the noted hunter.

Gon was told his father died long ago but learns that he is aloof alive and immediately wants to follow his father’s footsteps by becoming a hunter and also hoping he can earn and meet his father.

A hunter is a person who is granted special privileges in the world. They can stagger in areas that the public is not allowed to visit, they can go to establishments without having to pay for it, they have a license to hunt and do other jobs that are only specific to those who have a hunter’s license.

But not everyone can become a hunter. Only a few become hunters and in this case, only one hunter can be chosen. Also, to accomplish it more interesting, only a few acquire it past definite tests. But for Gon, he is definite to follow his father’s footsteps and will do what it takes to become a hunter.

Gon is different from other hunters since he was raised by a loving relative and lived in a village where there has not been worthy strife or conflict, so he is a bit naive about the world around him. In fact, his motivation in becoming a hunter is so opposite of what other hunters are wanting it for. But Gon’s pure and distinct attitude seems to have an do on the people that he meets.

As for Gon, he has the ability to communicate with animals like his father and carries a fishing pole that acts like a weapon and helps him swing to different areas. He is also learning more and more about his abilities as he continues on in his hunter training with his friends.

Along the scheme, he meets three others who will be taking the hunter exam and the four earn a friendship and become a circle of friends helping each other out. Gon befriends:

Leorio - Gon meets Leorio, a man who wears a business suit and sunglasses who has a hot temper but has a obliging heart. He seems to want to be a hunter because of money but why he wants the money is explained in this first volume. Leorio is a astronomical fighter and if his hunger is fat, he exhibits expansive strength.

Kurapika - Gon meets Kurapika while traveling on ship to another island. Kurapika tends to bag at odds with Leorio in the beginning because both have different reasons for wanting a Hunter license. For Kurapika, his motivation to net a hunter’s license is for revenge and it is explained during his storyline on volume 1. Kurapika is intellectual, a balanced fighter and also is a conjurer and specialist with the ability to materialize objects with his imagination.

Killua Zoldyck - The fourth member of the team is Killua, a mysterious boy that finds Gon’s purity lively and thus immediately, because of how Gon is, Killua immediately becomes friends with the three. Killua comes from an upbringing of an assassin and is a trained killer. He somewhat has a split personality. He can be seen as a delighted, young person intrigued by people but when in battle, he can turn and become a deadly individual who enjoys the thrill of killing. Killua is learning to control himself and his weaknesses as shown in this first volume.

The first volume is literally an introduction to the four friends who want to become hunters and during their adventures of traveling to a variety of islands and areas, are faced with immediate and deadly challenges that they must be prepared for. You learn of their motivations of becoming a hunter but how they learn to benefit each other in achieving success during their long training.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

The animation of “HUNTER X HUNTER” has similarities to Togashi’s other accepted work “Yu Yu Hakusho” in terms of character designs. Also, with the series created abet in 1999, you put a question to to notice quality of a TV anime series created in the 90s completely different to the digital incandescent quality of anime TV series of today. So, you do come by noise on the video as would be expected from an older bewitching TV series.

But for an anime TV series created in the slow 90s, you score a lot of shading through the backgrounds and dungeon areas. You rep to gawk the toothsome backgrounds painted. The cold aspect of “HUNTER X HUNTER” animation-wise is that the main characters are continually on the go, so you gain something different with each episode in terms of scenery and backgrounds.

I watched the series in both Japanese (with English subtitles) and via English dub. Both negate acting tracks are well done and as for the English dub, I’ve always felt that VIZ media are typically on top of their selections for issue actors with series like “Naruto”, “Bleach” and “Death Sign”. The same can be said for “HUNTER X HUNTER”, the explain actors for Gon and friends are well done.

I typically hate children or teenagers who sound too remarkable older than they are in anime series but I’m blissful that the negate acting was well done for Gon and the others.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

There really isn’t worthy in terms of extras. You catch a trailer for Shonen Jump Manga, Shonen Jump Home Video but fortunately you can secure the production storyboards (a total of 15) .

I whine that the theme of a young boy and his friends trying to glean a license can be compared to a series like “Pokemon” but with “HUNTER X HUNTER”, there are no monsters being caught and although Gon is a young guy, pure-at-heart, his friends are trying to overcome their believe personal issues from their past.

But what makes “HUNTER X HUNTER” a fun series is the fact that you have four individuals who are so different from each other, they learn about themselves and about others through their friendship. Having to work as a team during their training and their adventures and colorful that not many people do it far in their training.

The first volume focuses more on the character development on each character and their team dynamics. But with so many episodes smooth left in the series, you can only seek information from that the adventures will become more difficult, involving and that the storyline will continue to secure even more wilder and intelligent as it progresses.

With the odds against them, instead of working as individuals, the four work as a team despite their differences and with a storyline that features a genuine balance of humor, action but also some seriousness, “HUNTER X HUNTER” is an delicious adventure-based anime series thus far.

I can’t fill Hunter x Hunter the anime has finally crossed over to the US waters. This is my top most accepted anime of all time, and the gateway anime that lead me to the anime addiction I now bare.

As mentioned by one of the other reviewers, if you are looking for a chronicle with gigantic character development, enough action and a huge legend, the first anime I will always recommend is hunter x hunter.

A textbook example of the giallo, Lamberto Bava’s A Blade in the Murky is an certain homage to Dario Agento, the Italian director who (along with Bava’s father Mario) served as his filmmaking mentor. Bava worked as assistant director on Argento’s Tenebre, shot the year before; that film’s influence is readily apparent. A major place element is lifted from Argento’s Deep Red (1975) as well - Blade’s narrative also revolves around a composer who finds himself embroiled in a bizarre series of homicides. But Argento was working with grand bigger budgets, longer production schedules, and better stories. Unfortunately, A Blade in the Dusky can’t commence to compare to its inspirational sources.

Originally envisioned as a tiny, episodic series for Italian TV, it was shot with a European theatrical release also in mind. The spare scenario (penned by prolific exploitation scribe Dardano Sarchetti) establishes only the most bare-boned of plots. Bruno (Andrea Occhipinti), a young composer, rents a tall, rambling villa in which to work on his latest project, the win for a scare film being directed by his friend Sandra (Anny Papa) . To the detriment of Bruno’s solitude the house comes complete with a suspicious-acting caretaker (are there any other types in Italian fear? ) and some unexpected visitors - Katia (Valeria Cavalli) and Angela (Fabiola Toledo), two elegant women, acquaintances of the primitive tenant, who live nearby. When the women mysteriously travel shortly after he meets them, Bruno begins to suspect they’ve been murdered on the premises… He can’t glean any bodies, but clues abound. (Knife-holes and bloodstains would certainly qualify in that regard!) Someone definitely entered the villa uninvited and destroyed his latest demo tape, that great is obvious. Stupidly, Bruno never once picks up the phone to dial the police.

If our dimwitted hero did the luminous thing, however, there’d be no movie. More people die faulty deaths. Meanwhile Bruno wanders about the house and its grounds, poking around and peering into the sunless. There are a lot of such scenes in the flick, which will severely test the patience of even the most avid giallo fan. (Rapido, Lamberto!) Obviously this was done to pad out the running time; too many of these sequences are distinct red herrings, devoid of any suspense, or unbiased dead pointless.

Bava does pile on the shocks, though, in the film’s two main destroy sequences. The stalking/slaying of Katia owes a lot to Tenebre in peruse and style (particularly the destroy of the hotelier’s daughter in that film), but Bava ends

the set-piece with an modern motif - the victim is trapped slow a sheet of chickenwire through which the killer slowly slashes her to death with a box-cutter - that’s guaranteed to rep your flesh crawling. The death of Angela, when she’s attacked in the villa’s bathroom, is a staunch doozy: a brutal, nihilistic bit of filmmaking that some could easily account for as an exhaust in misogynistic sadism. (Here Bava does for hair-washing in the sink what Hitchcock’s Psycho did to taking a shower…) But amidst the unrepentant brutality Bava injects an occasional touch of sardonic humor, most notably when Sandra the panic director is strangled with a spool of her have film - murdered with her beget movie.

Aside from the visceral thrills and chills generated by these execute scenes the film is attractive grand a misfire. The characters are all uninvolving ciphers. It’s not considerable of a mystery, either; most of the red herrings offered up by the spot are plainly definite for what they are. As mentioned, an inordinate amount of time is spent following Bruno as he wanders about the villa, checking this room and that - scenes devoid of dialog but accompanied by repetitious theme music that hastily becomes annoying. In one device the dearth of dialog is a superb thing… The English dubbing job is awful, featuring ludicrous translations (”You’re a female!”;”I am not a female child!” etc.) that might be laughable in a Godzilla movie, but not one about a sadistic serial killer. At times it seems evident that the translators weren’t even looking at a copy of the script - how else can one justify the scene in which Bruno chides Katia over her anxiety of a spider, telling her with a straight face that the bug isn’t even a spider, but a cockroach… at the very moment we’re shown a close-up shot of (yep) a SPIDER. Huh???

A Blade in the Shadowy has fans, no doubt appreciative of its effective, wince-inducing set-pieces. We fancy gialli, too - impartial not this one. We’d mighty rather gape Bava’s supernatural splatterfest Demons (1985) for the umpteenth time than sit through this one again.

“Honest a case of being a bit overwrought.”
Sandra sums up the movie

Anchor Bay does a lovely job with A Blade in the Dim considering it’s a fairly obscure title here in America. The transfer is letterboxed and anamorphically enhanced for 16×9 TVs; as the film was originally shot in 16mm the portray is understandably on the grainy side. The Dolby mono audio track is serviceably certain. In addition to the theatrical trailer, a short (10 min.), enchanting video interview with director Bava and screenwriter Sarchetti is included. (This is in Italian, with easily readable English subtitles. Do not gawk this before viewing the film itself. It’s chock tubby of spoilers, including the murderer’s identity.)

A composer is hired to get a slasher film and is sent to an extinct unlit house for inspiration. Odd things originate to occur and bodies initiate to pile up..only to go. This is one of the better giallo films of its time and its miles ahead of the typical 80’s slashers that were coming out of the US. After working under his noted father Mario, as well as Dario Argento among others, Bava displays big atmosphere in this film as well as some ghastly violence. Another reason to fill this film on DVD is that AnchorBay is releasing this in its longest, most complete gash (longer than the EC import laser) . On a side mark, behold for director Michele Soavi (Cemetery Man) in a microscopic but enchanting role.

A really worthy war movie, perhaps in fraction because it was so relatively unexplored in film. It is the epic of a German working class soldier (”popular as dirt”, as characterized by his General, played by James Mason) named Bruno Stachell (who is well-portrayed with frosty self- assurance by George Peppard) man. Stachell leaves the trenches in World War One and becomes an ace in the German flying corps which is populated by officers and gentlemen. His obsession is a medal - hence the film’s title - awarded to aces, and his colleagues, commanders and the British Air Force won’t maintain him from it.

Predictably, he rebels even as he never fits in with his comrades. It is illustrated well by his response to his first destroy (which sadly goes unconfirmed even after he went scouring the countryside for the plane he shot down) . He “responds” by getting his first confirmed waste by shooting down the next enemy plane over his hold airfield. While his betters who populate the squadron never stop to remind him of his space, he continues up the ranks to best them all while ridiculing their so-called code of honor. “Chivalry? ” he sneers. “To raze a man and then execute a ritual out of saluting him is hypocrisy.”

It has titanic flying battle scenes. Also, a improbable supporting cast including the aforementioned Manson, his slutty aristocratic wife (the gorgeous Ursula Andress) and a stick-up-the-butt colleague/rival fellow officer (Jeremy Kemp) . Karl Vogler plays von Heiderman, the Commanding Officer who refuses to let go of his notions of warfare with honor, in the face of the barbaric commencement of the 20th century.

I disagree with the reviewer who says Peppard was out of his depth in this role. He plays the section of the anti-hero very well. I was even more impressed after reading that he did his have flying in this film.

It is very long, but worth the time.

This is one of those films that seems to accept better with age. It is the myth of a low-born warrior Bruno Stachel (George Peppard), who by force of will and talent, rises out of a accepted foxhole and into the cockpit of a fighter airplane in the closing days of WW1. It is his arch-nemesis, the aristocratic flying ace Willi von Klugermann,(Jeremy Kemp) who keenly observes Stachel’s ruthlessness and nicknames him “Cobra”. The aerial flying sequences are breathtaking and plentiful, many of the aircraft were constructed for the making of this movie, unlike computer generated duplications so accepted today. The lifeless cadence and almost hesitating sound of unreliable machine guns firing from the flimsy aircraft they were fitted to is striking testament to the sound editors art. Stachel’s ambition for glory “in and out of bed” is unmatched by his well-born and condecending comrades. But in the destroy, his destiny is inexorably tilted by an unyielding competitiveness, a glowing countess (Ursula Andress),her shrewd and much husband Count General von Klugermann,(masterfully portrayed by James Mason), and a demoralized, desperate Germany in the waning days of WW1. The production values of this film are respectable, the sets striking, and definite attention to historical detail is evident. Jerry Goldsmith’s musical bag ties a compelling chronicle line together with subtle variations of a hauntingly radiant musical theme. It is my hope this film will be digitally remastered for DVD release.

There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said about “Goodfellas”… it’s one of the best movies ever. To hell with the AFI, this is arguably one of the top 10 American movies ever made! Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco: five marvelous talents operating on all 8 cylinders in this myth about three decades of life in the mob.

Buy,Download, Or Stream GoodFellas! Click Here

Now, you’d reflect that Warner Brothers would give this movie the most complete Warner DVD release that’s ever existed. A involved current following, a high level of anticipation for a special edition, and the fresh booming space of the DVD industry should’ve made this a no-brainer slam dunk for Warner’s marketing and home video departments. And so, after years of having to flip over the old-fashioned disc, after years of almost crushing that flimsy snap case, after years of listening to that 5.1 surround that sounded suspiciously like 2-channel, should you obtain this unique version?? The acknowledge is a resounding…”maybe”.

Arguably the biggest plus to this unusual edition of “Goodfellas” is the fact that the whole movie is contained on a single side of a dual-layered disc. The “all-new digital transfer”, enhanced for 16:9, is only a marginal improvement over the fresh release (which was also listed as being “enhanced for widescreen TVs” on the package; it wasn’t) . Strangely enough, in the scene where Jimmy (De Niro) and Paulie (Paul Sorvino) go to convince Henry to go home to Karen, there is a very noticeable screen-split line on the film that sections De Niro’s face in half. This isn’t the transfer’s quandary, per se; it looks more like something off the film print. The weird thing is I don’t remember this trip being explain on the former version. Maybe it’s only a minor peeve, but smooth, this is the kind of thing you’d request a studio to shipshape up for a special edition.

Buy,Download, Or Stream GoodFellas! Click Here

The English audio is the same stale Dolby-Surround-masquerading-as-5.1 mix ancient in the veteran version. The package incorrectly lists Spanish as the alternate language; it’s detached French. Nothing more to say about that.

The disc menus are static, and they all have this generic-sounding jazz secure playing over them. Remember all the jazz in “Goodfellas”? Yeah, me neither.

Of course, the proper reason most people are running out to catch this recent situation is to spy the special features. This DVD includes 2 commentaries: one with various cast & crew members, the other with Henry Hill & ex-FBI agent Ed McDonald (who plays himself at the extinguish of the movie) . Of the 2 commentaries, the track with real-life players Hill and McDonald is infinitely more bright, even though Hill mumbles more than Keith Richards having an acid flashback.

When I bought this station, I was looking forward to some feature-length Scorsese, Pesci, Liotta &/or Bracco commentary (I didn’t dare to hope for Robert De Niro, I mean, be serious), with some humorous stories or moviemaking info. Instead, what you gather is a few fresh comments cobbled together with 10-15 year dilapidated sound bites from De Niro and Joe Pesci. Basically, the first 90 minutes of commentary is a total strokefest (”oh-this-guy-was-so-great”, “oh-she-did-a-really-good-job”) with only Scorsese, author Slash Pileggi, Liotta, and cinematographer Michael Ballhaus saving it. It picks up towards the destroy, though, when Lorraine Bracco (who shoots down the “screen-specific commentary” illusion when she talks about having watched the movie on the morning she’s being interviewed) and editor Thelma Schoonmaker descend some comical thoughts.

As for the rest of the extras? There’s really no need to have a second disc to beget them; the total running time of all the “documentaries”, as Warner calls them (”featurettes”, I call ‘em), along with the theatrical trailer is less than an hour. Plenty of room for these on the first disc, but then I guess Warner felt they needed another selling point with the whole 2-disc thing. To summarize the 1/2-hour making-of documentary: “Martin Scorsese is a broad director.” Remember those 6 words and everything else is cream cheese.

The second major documentary, at around 13 minutes long, has interviews with some younger writer-directors who’ve found themselves influenced by “Goodfellas”. Only 5 words to remember this time: “‘Goodfellas’ is a smart movie.”

The other two featurettes are about 10 minutes altogether. One is a storyboard-to-screen comparison, the other is a minute throwaway fraction with some cast & crew anecdotes. 4 words will do this one unbiased fine: “Warner Brothers is indolent.”

It’s really a shame that Warner Brothers couldn’t wait fair a tad longer and include some truly special features for one of the best movies their studio has ever produced. With the stellar jobs they’ve done on their other 2-disc reissues, like “Enter the Dragon”, “The Accurate Stuff”, “Singin’ in the Rain” –jeez, even “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” has better features than this!!– I expected Warner Bros. to really pull out all the stops for this original edition of “Goodfellas”, but it’s a grand letdown. Unruffled, it is an improvement (no matter how minor) over the previous release, and as it is probably the “best” version we’re ever gonna accumulate on DVD, I would have to recommend picking it up.

However, if you already beget the movie, hold three things in mind. Ask yourself 1.) if you really mind flipping the customary disc over, 2.) if you’ve got a normal full-screen TV, do you really need a original anamorphic transfer?, and 3.) do you really need to notice the special features if they’re not exactly top quality? If your acknowledge to any of these things is “no”, then I’d consider long and hard about shelling out another $20.

Goodfellas has long been one of my popular movies. I’ve watched it many times since I saw it in the theater. I’ve seen it on tape, on laserdisc, on the unique “flipper” DVD and the remastered anamorphic DVD, and now, Blu-Ray Disc.

I’m blissful to narrate that the Blu-Ray is a necessary improvement over the remastered DVD. The characterize is brighter, the colors are more bright, and many scenes have powerful more detail and clarity. Of course, the overall narrate is worthy sharper.

Goodfellas is not the kind of movie that is a showcase for high-resolution video, however. It has a lot of sunless indoor scenes; very diminutive takes status outdoors (something I never noticed before) . I noticed some graininess, which has a lot to do with how Scorcese shot the characterize. It’s unbiased more noticeable in the higher resolution.

There are some minor problems with the audio in one scene. The dialogue drops in volume and then jumps relieve up in the following scene. Other than that, the audio is heavenly, although I would have liked a more aggressive surround mix, at least in the musical selections. However, there’s not worthy utilize of the surrounds here.

Also, at one point there’s a vertical line halfway across the cover. Why this wasn’t cleaned up is mystery to me; it lasts for about fifteen seconds. Admittedly this is a very minor spot, but with expensive recent technology flaws of this kind stand out more than they would on tape or standard DVD.

If you’re a fan of the movie and are considering upgrading to the Blu-Ray, I’d highly recommend it. It’s not an eye-popping effects movie to commence with, so this disc isn’t the first one to approach for if you want to indicate off your system. But it’s probably the best draw to glance the movie.

This dwelling is a bargain. Three of the finest movies of all time in one spot for about $30.00. Packaging is done well, with a nice shroud. For those who complain that “Gone With the Wind” is not in widescreen format - please understand that there is NO widescreen version of “Gone With the Wind” as widescreen didn’t appear until the 1950’s and GWTW (”Gone With the Wind”) was filmed in 1939! Colossal performances in all three films and GWTW’s cinematography is so noble that nearly every scene is a painting. So tragic that Leslie Howard, who played Ashley Wilkes in GWTW, was killed only a few years later in World War Two. Sizable movies all, and a enormous package deal.

I have to agree with previous reviews that this was a tall trace for three spacious movies, however, I was very dissapointed with the packaging. It appears that they took discs from the single sets (that probably were not selling) and repackaged them into this disc. I tend to be very meticulous with my packaging, and it bothers me that the disc for Casablanca says DISC 1, but there is no DISC 2. In addition, when you unfold the packaging, GWTW and CASABLANCA have “stunning” discs, and then you have the frightening determined faced disk for Zhivago.
