Gurren Lagann is one of the best anime titles out there. It’s art style is what sets it apart from all the rest. This crazy hand drawn style (though I’m not entirely distinct if it is hand drawn) may turn off some, but I personally dig it. I knew what to inquire after buying Uninteresting Leaves. This is a bit more tame (epic wise) compared to Insensible Leaves, but unruffled off the chain none the less. The tale line is expansive. There is a itsy-bitsy over the top acting at times but that is kinda like the soul of this series. The whole freaking crew is over the top! And I adore that about it!

This is the final two volumes packaged as Section 3. It was worth every dollar spent, and I highly recommend it!

Director Bernardo Bertolucci is the perfect choice for bringing Paul Bowles wonderful fresh — one of the most finely crafted of the 20th century and one of my common books — to the camouflage. Debra Winger and John Malkovich are radiant as Kit and Port — scandalous, bored, EMPTY Americans ‘travelling’ (NOT tourists) in Morocco objective after WWII. Their slide — one of self-discovery and an attempt to bring some life attend into their marriage — turns from one of indolent fascination with an exotic culture (one in which Bowles, the author, immersed himself long ago, one which he loved unabashedly) turns into a race to hell. Be careful what you wish for, you fair might glean it.

Campbell Scott is also profitable in the role of their friend Tunner, and the Lyles — the fawning Eric and his intolerably marvelous mother — are every bit as disgusting as they seem. Some viewers have found these latter two portrayals to be a bit ‘over the top’ — but they’re completely irritating characters, whining and complaining constantly about the conditions in which they chose to state themselves. They are the biting fleas you cannot steal from your sleeping bag, no matter how long you search for them.

Filmed on region in the African desert, the film resounds and shines with Bertolucci’s touch — if it seems long and plain in places, those characteristic accurately recount the atmosphere of life in desert Morocco. The improbable heat would tend to lifeless things down a bit. The director’s spend of camera angles, light, and those long, expressionless, sweeping shots are masterful and perfect. Bowles was consulted every step of the scheme — a mark of the respect held for the author and his work by the director — and he even appears in the film and supplies narration.

I am amazed that a film of this scope, made by a director of Bertolucci’s stature, with two of the most critically acclaimed actors of our time, has not appeared on DVD. There’s a unbelievable documentary called DESERT ROSES: THE MAKING OF ‘THE SHELTERING SKY’ that would build a nice fraction of bonus material for a DVD release. When the film was shown on BRAVO, that network had the capable taste to rush the documentary along with it. There’s also a exquisite documentary on Bowles available from Mystic Fire Video, PAUL BOWLES IN MOROCCO, that gives an informative portrait of this literary giant.

Synopsis: Rich, dissatisfied American couple, Port Moresby (John Malkovich) and his wife Kit Debra Winger), recede to exotic North Africa hoping adventure will renew some interest in their failing marriage. The two travelers temporarily become a trio with the addition of fellow American George Tunner (Campbell Scott) . George however turns out to be more of a tourist than a traveler* and they soon allotment company as the Moresby proceed deeper and deeper into the mountainous, arid landscape. The desert experience turns out to be more than anticipated and those who survive will be forever changed. In the final analysis isn’t that what a adventure is supposed to carry out?

`The Sheltering Sky’ released in ‘90 boasts a soundtrack of wonderfully ethnic music and some of the most ravishing cinematography you could ever hope for. Unfortunately in my plan the place falls short of delivering the elephantine existential, introspective nature of the storyline. Artistic to a fault but it doesn’t generate any interest in the chararacters. `The Sheltering Sky’ is well worth a sight for the scenery alone, but it certainly would be a difficult relate viewing for me.

C’mon…it’s not rocket science and it’s not meant to be. After a week of having husbands and kids drive us crazy, my best friend and I ran away from home to study this and agreed we hadn’t laughed so hard in months! We laughed the whole plot through. Mission accomplished…escapism at its best! Katherine Heigl is adorable in this and hey, for us harried mothers, honest getting to peer Ed Burns and James Marsden for 90 minutes is worth the designate (or DVD) stamp alone. They’re splendid yummy to notice! Leave the husband/boyfriends at home for this one and have a girls’ night out. Guys don’t glean the humor in watching Jane enjoy her friends’ wedding dresses when they have to pee at their wedding receptions. Girls collect it. The writing is witty with plenty of hilarious one-liners. Jane is everyone’s best friend and you’ll wish she was one of yours, too. This DVD will score added to my collection of predictable romantic comedies because it can fill its gain with the best of them!

But, Tess isn’t quite what she’s leading George to have. She doesn’t like dogs. She eats meat, and she’s turning George’s small brother into her personal cleaning service.

And Jane–who is both jealous of her dinky sister and concerned about the lies Tess is telling to ‘get her man’ has to do the wedding together. Add to that the complication of Kevin (James Marsden), the bridal column journalist, who is following both Jane’s career as a bridesmaid and amateur wedding planner and Tess’s wedding.

“27 Dresses” is a heartwarming and droll film that’s both a capable date movie and pleasurable for pre-teens. In my notion, Ms. Heigl is showing versatility as an actress playing the sweet romantic heroine in “27 Dresses” and the hapless accidental mother in “Knocked up.” She’s steering a course similar to Johnny Depp’s, in that she’s selecting a variety of parts that won’t leave her typecast.

“Billy Bathgate” had the pains to be released the year after “Goodfellas”, Scorsese’s expansive gangster film which revived interest in the genre. Proper, “Billy Bathgate” is also about gangsters, but if you know the works of its director, Robert Benton, and those of Scorsese, you know they are not similar directors at all. While both men are fascinated by racy characters, Benton is more sparkling and less visceral. Even in his most well-known early screenplay, “Bonnie and Clyde”, the characters exhaust a surprising amount of time sitting around and talking prior to the movie’s injurious and violent climax. So, “Billy Bathgate” does not provide as grand action or as many gut level situations as a typical gangster film. What is has is big atmosphere, a literate script by Tom Stoppard, incandescent cinematography by Nestor Almendros, and some consuming performances.

Billy [Loren Dean] is a shiny kid growing up in Novel York in the 1930s. The son of impoverished immigrants, he is getting most of his education in the streets. In his neighborhood, the heroes are gangsters like Dutch Shultz [Dustin Hoffman] and his men because they report a arrangement to climb out of poverty and to score respect. One day Billy catches Shultz’s gaze and is soon working for him. The kid’s not violent but he witnesses many acts of violence. These obviously unnerve him, but the lure of a rapidly buck is strong. Things salvage complicated when he is save in charge of looking after a rich society dame [Nicole Kidman], who has a sham marriage to a satisfied but great Current Yorker. She gets her kicks by dating gangsters. She’s in awful distress because of something she saw, but she doesn’t seem to be aware of it, though Billy is. He’s also aware that she’s the most ravishing and super woman he’s ever met.

I understanding the movie was piquant and well done. I can discover why others might earn it too tedious and talky. It has an elegance and a dignity that is somewhat at odds with its subject matter, but I found this contradiction challenging. I also enjoyed watching Ms. Kidman in a role that predates both her American stardom and her years as Mrs. Tom Skim. No one at the time was aware of the phenomenon she would later become, but looking at her from a decade’s distance, all the signs are plainly there.

“Billy Bathgate” charts the seemingly charmed path of a resourceful street kid (Loren Dean) who latches on to the Dutch Shultz gang in Dewey-era Novel York City. Shultz (Dustin Hoffman) has a gang which has seen the zenith of its power; its fighting to enjoy his state in a world where Irish and Italian politicians and mobsters are on the ascendancy.

The movie opens with an initial act of betrayal, and the moll (Nicole Kidman) is thrust upon both the man and the boy. The movie is blessed with strong performances by secondary characters played by Steven Hill, Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, Bruce Willis, and a number of other actors whose faces you know but might not be able to name.

Since seeing this movie originally at the theatre and several times on cable tv, I’ve wondered why it didn’t have a bigger following. I’ll offer up a few reasons, all of which may define why a tall and touching movie is under-appreciated. First, the ostensible lead character–Loren Dean’s Billy–is not really the lead character, he’s the observe (and possible catalyst) to the arc of the Shultz gang; Mr Dean, who’s turned out to be a terrific and underutilized character actor, alas, does not seemed to have had the kind of star power to give the movie a higher profile. The film’s erstwhile “star”, Dustin Hoffman, plays a character that doesn’t have the dominating veil time to accomplish this his sage or the film Hoffman’s. Finally, the film doesn’t really follow the standard arc of a Hollywood hero’s journey: the Shultz gang is on the decline, and its not distinct that the boy is on the ascent.

There are several necessary inadequacies you should know about this position before you buy:

1) The discs are in cheap, brittle trays — easily subject to breakage — rather than in well-built cases.

2) These trays are not labeled, and amazingly, there is no insert describing — or even listing — the episodes, or which discs they are on. Episode titles are printed on the disc labels, but that’s all the info you bag, so after spending $300, a buyer has to flip through the 49 discs like file cards, to earn the episode s/he wants.

3) The discs are stuck into three unweildy clumps — of either eight or nine trays, each — that are held together by inexpensive adhesive tape. This tape seems likely to decay, and the result will be 26 individual, unlabled trays scattered around your living room. (Most trays have two discs) .

4) The tray configuration leaves some discs uncovered, unless the whole awkward mess is stored together…a predicament which will fetch worse when the trays inevitably separate.

The lone advantage is the bonus disc. Most of the features on the disc appear to have been meant for, and for some reason never made it onto, the current releases of seasons 4 - 7. That doesn’t mean they’re not worth watching; some of them are quite safe. Of the three novel features, the best offers interviews with several of the series’ writers and producers. (However, it only tangentally deals with its supposed subject — introduced by John DeLancie — about Star Trek’s cultural impact.) Less successful is the roundtable of visual effects wizards; it has bewitching moments, but it did not account for enough for a layman, nor did it go into enough detail for an expert. The Will Wheaton-hosted “Legacy” looks at how Star Plod ideas have shown up at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, but it’s dazzling vapid (not Wheaton’s fault) .

To be objective, I’m torn. I’m pleased to have the bonus disc (the features on Q and Lwaxana were touching) but portion of me wishes I’d purchased the previously released conglomeration of individual seasons, “Star Accelerate The Next Generation - The Complete Seasons 1-7″. The note of that dwelling has decreased to compete with this unusual, and somewhat inconsiderate, release…and the packaging of the former residence is far easier to deal with.

This TV series is proper as many reviewers will jabber you. I have the “silver box” residence of all seven seasons, so I was spirited what this unusual station had that was different. Per my review of the details at www.startrek.com the only differences are: (1) the original green slimmer packaging for the 7 seasons, and (2) one more disk (#49) with modern features. All the other disks #1-48 are the same as the “silver” boxes—ie. all the episodes and all the same extra features for each season. This unique spot is smooth fullscreen and has the same audio options. It is not HD as some may have hoped. Therefore, if you already have the 7 seasons, at least for me, it makes no sense to pick this station honest to glean one extra disk!

CONTENT:

Ok, if you are reluctant of this movie because people declare you that its really gory/sex-oriented, then I feel you should spy it for yourself. I was severely disapointed on how puny this made me cringe. Yes, there is sex. Yes, there is gore. But NO, its not as awful as everyone says…unless you are easily grossed out. There is probably one sex-like scene that made me squint, but otherwise nothing is that dreadful in this. The worst you will study as far as nudity is concerned is female breasts and butts…there are a few questionable parts though (the spider-woman’s exhaust of her vaginal position for where she removes webbing) .

The gore factor isn’t as dreadful as people say. If you really want gore, then recognize some of the Hentai titles like Midnight Panther, or Demon Beast Invasion and this will seem like child’s play.

PLOT:

The anecdote isn’t that dreadful, but it tends to lean towards female abuse and/or taking advantage of the female body. The ending is what made me maintain the DVD because it seemed like it leaned away from the over-used sex scenes and towards an trusty anecdote.

The DVD is satisfactory, and it offers a lengthly interview with the director, bios on the characters, and the unusual trailer. The menu is also easily navicable, which is a plus for these types of movies. Also, as usual, the Japanese and English versions are available with the Japanese version creaming the dub as far as quality.

OVERALL:

To sum this movie/dvd up, I would say its like Ninja Scroll with sex and demons instead of nudity and ninjas. I would obtain this DVD is you are a fan of Ninja Scroll, Demon City Shinjuku, or a Wind Named Amnesia.

When Contemptible City (also called Supernatural Monster City) was unusual, it was very impressive for its time. As anime evolves, a lot of what once made this anime stand out — its adult theme, unfamiliar demons, and region twists — have become stereotypical standbys of the genre. While not as classic as such seminal movies as Akira, Rotten City quiet had a lot to offer anime fans.

The biggest flaw this movie has is its absolutely terrible English dubbing, which manage to flatten out all lively charactization, lose valuable space details, mangle other area details, and criminally distort remarkable of the dialogue’s precise meaning. (The English dubbed version of Unsuitable City drops the rating to one star.) If you assure on hearing it in English, at least turn on the English subtitles as well so you can watch what you’re not hearing. Better yet, honest leave it in Japanese with English subtitles.

Be warned, this is an adult movie. There’s sex, violence, rape, and at least one monster that will do male viewers gulp and corrupt their legs. Some of it’s gratuitous (and some of it’s tame in comparison to films like Urotsukidoji), but viewers who are okay with these kinds of topics will catch grand to savor.

Now I haven’t seen the whole series (because it is not fully released in the US yet), Candidate for Goddess (also known as Piolit Candidate) is a huge series. It is of a SiFi Drama about the human speed trying to end alive in mysterious attacks from “Victim” (contemplate the name, which most likely has hidden meaning) . In this battle humans spend robots controlled pick humans with EX power (actually it’s more like an evolved perform of human, which basically is a person with a self inhancing ability) . The main characters face internal struggles while trying to become piolits of Robots to effect their colony. The robots themselves are also mysterious, especially the Goddesses. It seems to hint of the fact that they may not have been man made.

Altogether it is a mountainous series and I recomend it to anyone, however the 2nd eppisode in this volume contains a qualified amout of nudity that was edited out of Cartoon Network’s version. However it is not graphic (so it isn’t Hentai) also on the Cartoon Network version the cigarette has been changed to a tooth select. (I conception this was famous to mention to parents)

I am what one would call a hard core anime fan, but unlike others I do not behold the extremely exaggerated “borrowed ideas” of what others discover to be right. The only similarities between anouther series and this is slkightly with the plan the robots are piolited and the design they are piolited in Neon Genesis: Evangelion (another series in which I highly recoment for adults to perceive, very enlightening series) . The main differece though is that in an eva you sit down and in a Goddess you float. However, I occupy some people believe it borrowed because they both have the piolots link up directly with the mind to their crafts. I don’t occupy it resembles gundam at all (which is a war series), if the reason it is believed it is similar because of the colonies then it is incedibly incorrect because many state series in all over the world have people live on residence colonies and ships. This makes it silly to judge it was started by Gundam Skim (which is a reliable series also), a series which basically is the new gundam series in 79 conbined with other gundam series (hince the catagory it’s under: Alternate Universe Gundam Series) remixed with a cupple of unique ideas and a more political belief on things.

The animation style is mixed 2D and 3D (similar to the draw Blue Submarine No 6 is (a miniseries that should be perchaced by all anime fans)

The music is very nice with orchestrated music and gargantuan vocal music. It really makes the series even more luscious.

The English voices are not too terrible, they are not of the advantageous caliber of Cowboy Bebop (which had the best dubbed voices for an anime), but they are not gross and are mild noble to hear.

Also, like I said, the account is also kindly, though from what I’ve heard it is a short series (of the OVA size, which is about 13 eppisodes) .

The extras are really substantial, however it is better on the second dvd where you gather to recognize what it’s like to do the dubbing for the present the japanese stle.

The only main spot I observe is the translation errors in the english subtitles (though it doesn’t damage the fun in watching subtitled anime) and the fact that there are only three eppisodes per DVD. (which is why it didn’t rep a perfect)

All in all a very spacious series that I’d recomend to anyone (over 13)

This series is the BEST!!! I have seen all the episodes shown on adult swim. I taped all of them and watched them over and over, but unfortunatly the tapes were corrupted and now I’m buying the whole series on DVD. The series isn’t a copy off of anything, but the only disappointing share is that the series is cleave off when it could have and should have gone a lot further.
